Tabata is definitely a gamble, but he's by no means a bust at this point. It's a risk, but one that could pay off huge for the Pirates. There team simply isn't at the point where Nady can help them. Tabata could easily be a major cornrstone for that team's future for a long time.

One very young guy with a VERY high ceiling and a few guys who have a long shot of being decent at best. As it stands right now, the Yanks made out like bandits in this one. Nady is a really solid hitter and fielder and Marte definitely is a big boost to the bullpen. Excellent trade by the Yankees.

Nady is hitting 330. Yankees were really left handed heavy. Leftys dominated us this year. You plug Nady there, who is not a super star, but good and a professional hitter. Yanks need those type of guys.

And like you said, Marte has plus stuff. Who has playoff big game experience with the Wsox during that run. Ozzie Guillen said he cried himself to sleep when they dealt him, that is how much he liked him.

I think Pirates jumped the gun, all they needed to say was, we are very close to making a deal with the Yanks, wait a bit, and i think someone like Bos Tampa or whom ever, would step up. Hell, tonight Sox lost Delcarmen, who know how long he is out. Kinda like when they made the Abreu deal the day before Trot Nixon went down.

Absolutely. But then again, how many of these 'special' players make it? Tebata could be great, or not. Time will tell.

I'd be much more angry if they gave up a SP with the promise that Tabata has. If we gave up Joba 2 years ago, i would not be happy. But your 2nd best OF prospect, i can live with.

Why wait? Tabata even sniffing his ceiling down the line is better than most position prospects out there right now. They need to plan for the future, and this is doing that in a big way. The other guys could definitely contribute, or be used in further deals.

Yea, i guess. But if he was a headcase and wanted to quite being a Yankee prospect, what do you think his mindset will be as a Pirate.. Maybe it was all the expectations and the pressure of being a Yankee. Maybe he settles down.

That's likely what they're hinging this on. Get him out of the spotlight and intensity of the big market and try again with a team where he would be THE player if he pans out and the face of that franchise as they attempt to build a quality team around him. That's a pretty big ego boost.

The Yankees bullpen is amazing without Joba.

Mike Lowell is a herb. He was jumping up and down like a five year old. Maybe if he didn't crowd the plate he'd stop thinking pitches were inside.

I love how Josh Beckett was all poised to run in and beat down Joba if he and Youkilis started fighting. Joba is beefier than that dude, he'd lay him the fuck out.

Redsox are just a bunch of bullies. They loved all those years when they used to throw at us, and Torre would do shit. Nothing was wrong then. Now that the Yankees fight back, all of a sudden its not so funny.

Stop bitching and bring it. Youk is the posterchild of what they are all about. Whiney little bitches that do nothing when it comes down to it.

All that talk of oh we are gunna show Tampa, something is gunna happen.. What? Nothing.

Once Tampa said bring it, they came up small.

Nope.
That was Duaner Sanchez (http://gothamist.com/2006/08/02/idiot_of_the_we.php)
Nady was traded to Pittsburgh the next day, before the injury was widely known, for pitchers Perez and Hernandez.

It wasnt the team that wanted Tampa's ass, it was our local thug Coco Crisp.
And MLB made sure that he wasnt around the next time he played them.

And as was said during that incident, complaining about being thrown at is silly, it is indeed part of the game. But throwing at someone's head is criminal.

Congrats on finally getting something out of the fat fuck, but he seriously lacks class.

I'm not going to type out all of the reasons people told Yankee fans to stop complaining about Jeter being thrown out, I'll just refer you to those while pointing out one difference: Chamberlain has yet to actually hit Youkilis with a pitch.

I'm echoing Abraham's assessment right now but it's spot on, here's what you do with Ponson right now: "Leave him out there to suck up three more innings, DFA him tomorrow and trade for Jarrod Washburn. Did you not watch the Yankees when A-Rod was out this season? There was a wonderful offensive team. A-Rod is fine. He's having a bad season this year with runners in scoring position. For his career he bats .304 with a .959 OPS with runners in scoring position. Late and close he bats .278 with a .909 OPS. Super Duper God of Clutch David Ortiz bats .285 with a .959 OPS in the same position.

Alot of those #s were raised last year when he was going for his contract.. And guess what, once again he and the team came up small again when it counted in Oct.

The Sunday game in Fenway. Lester just walked Abreu to bring home a run.. He throws ball1 to Arod.. HEY LET ME SWING AT THE NEXT PITCH AND make an out. NICE WORK.

I don't give a SHIT what his #s say. HE COMES UP SMALL IN BIG SPOTS.

And please do not compare him to Ortiz. I hate the Redsox, but Ortiz is 10BILLION times more clucth.

Arod is the posterboy of this entire team since 2000. Flashy well payed big names with great stats on paper, who come up small every year when it counts.

There goes those stats.

Alex Rodriguez has been playing for 15 years. It's impossible in one year to erase 14 years of bad numbers. He is simply much better than you give him credit for.

And I watch Yankee games too. I just don't sit and stew on every moment a Yankee fails and let it erase everything good a player does.

But i am just tired of this team right now. Its not just a one or 2 game thing with this team. They are a big C tease. Just when you think they have it. WHAM they pull this shit.

Arod is a fantastic player and could be the best all around ever. But he is just so frustrating.

Actually, they do.

Alright, technically they don't, but they're infinitely closer to doing that than what people think they see or hear. It's not even close.

It's not like the numbers come out of nowhere or are made up. They're based on results.

Results can be misconstrued like this year.. Carlos Delgado has the most rbi's against the Yankees with 12.. Now people who just see that will say, WOW he kills the Yankees. But when you see he had 9 on 1 game, you say hum i guess not.

A player can have a great game or 2 and his stats for that week could be fantastic, but the rest of the week could suck ass.

Those kinds of short term noise are erased the longer the period the stats are for. You can't necessarily tell anything from a game, or 12. You can tell a bit more from a month. You can tell a lot more from a year. You can get a complete picture of a player when you look all the stats from a player's 15 year career.

But we're talking great career numbers over a 15-year career. You're talking limited sample size. Even if he's declining in some areas, it's nowhere near the level to have severely impacted those numbers yet, which indicates he's not even having a "bad season." His clutch stats are still above average or better in all but one common scenario, and even then he has a 726 .OPS.

You would be a fool to say Arod is not a legendary player, just like you would say the same for Ted Williams or to a less extent Patrick Ewing. But if you see what they have done in big spots, they just did not do well when it counted. Ted Williams had TERRIBLE stats in the post season. It does not mean he was not legendary.

I don't understand why the Tigers would make this trade AT ALL. There must be something else to it. What on Earth are the tigers going to do with Farnsworth?! My guess is they're going to turn around and dump him somewhere else, but they should have simply gotten more from the Yanks for Pudge.

I agree with what was stated above.. this makes as little sense as the Pirates getting Matt Morris.

It's Chad Moehler that's going to be saying goodbye...It'll be a shared job with Pudge and Molina.

The guy's hitting .295.

For a seven hole hitter in that Yankee lineup, that's a pretty damn good upgrade.

He doesn't have the home run pop anymore, but he'll drive in his fair share of runs the rest of the way, with that lineup.

.295 with no pop is Luis Castillo +10 singles.

pudge does not get hurt every 2weeks and 295 for a Catcher is much different than 295 for any other pos player

I'm not saying Pudge isn't a better player than Castillo, I'm a Mets fan, you don't have to tell me how terrible Castillo is. I'm just saying .295 with no pop isn't a HUGE difference between .230 with no pop (roughly what the Yankees have now). It's DEFINITELY DEFINITELY DEFINITELY an improvement, but not the difference between finishing second and a pennant, especially considering you gave up bullpen depth.

Ok, please let me shut up. This was a very good trade and I'm over analyzing.

Pudge may not have the arm that he had but its still good. He and Molina shut down the running game. And that is huge in big games. Brian Roberts would KILL us when he got on. At times stealing 2nd and 3rd. He did not even think about running against Molina.

This may be the best day to be a Yankee fan since they won that game at Fenway in 2004 to go up 3-0 in the LCS.

-Dump the trash that is Kyle Farnsworth
-Get Pudge Rodriguez
-Actually find someone to take LaTroy Hawkins (another piece of garbage)
-Bludgeon the Orioles 13-3
-See Manny Ramirez depart the AL East for good.

I think Brian Cashman visits other GM's with Luca Brasi, and gives them "Offers they can't refuse".

Now I have The Godfather Theme stuck in my head.

yeah, any fool would gladly trade a prospect for a reliever with an almost 6 era. you can't find those just anywhere.

Kontos faced Pittsburgh's Double-A affiliate, the Altoona Curve, and struck out a career-high 13 batters over eight innings of one-hit ball. He did not factor in the decision as the Thunder eked out a 1-0 win in the 10th on the strength of James Cooper's two-out RBI double.

He was in the Originally Nady Marte deal and the Pirates gave him back.. He did that after the trade.

Way to go Pirates.

Being from the Detroit area I have to say the Yankees got the best deal here, and the Tigers as much as admit defeat by dealing him now. Crap we traded him for a pitcher we got rid of not too long ago. I'm happy for him; he was a class act here and helped our teams credibility tremendously when he arrived.

I would actually love it if he was pitching for his 20th win, took a no-hitter into the 9th with two outs, walked a guy while up 1-0 then let up a 2-run home run and got the loss. that would pretty much sum up his career right there.

That really doesnt make sense as an insult, does it?
The Sox are in second place.
Wouldnt someone automatically be happier in 2nd than 3rd?

It's CLOSER to first, yeah???

Also, The Sox have been in first this year, and we were as happy then as we are now and will be even happier in a few games when we're back in first.

So, to ask someone if theyd be happier rooting for a team thats doing better,
is just silly, no? Of course they would!

Unless you just love your team regardless of where they place, and thats possible.
(As in my love for The Sox for 30 some odd)
But reading this thread, I dont find that to be the case.

So my answer to your question is a resounding,
Yes. Yes he would.
