I'm watching TCM right now and my favorite Jesus movie is on....
King of Kings directed by the great Nicolas (Rebel without a Cause) Ray.....
It has all the reverence and melodrama of the Bible.....
but clearly some other directors went another way....

Jesus Christ...I mean holy mackerel.....I mean.....freaking whatever.....

we can put aside the whole every-word-in-the-Bible-is-true argument and just enjoy the whole resurrection from the dead spectacle that is Easter.

Besides the whole Shroud of Turin argument has started up again....

If we were talking religious movies....that would be great......

but there is no Jesus in the Ten Commandments.....

but if we are talking Charlton Heston you might want to check out Ben Hur.....

you almost catch a glimpse of Jesus in that movie.....

Personally, I like Jesus of Nazareth, but I don't think it counts exactly as a movie since it's a miniseries... I just love me some Franco Zeferelli.

As for the Shroud of Turin ... that debate comes up every generation. No surprises, dude, seriously. (Love watching the documentaries about it, though. FASCINATING.)

That's about a Golem, a statue brought to life thru ritual, or as Ronnie B. encountered as a clue in a crossword puzzle, a "Jewish robot," NOT a zombie... it's a wonderful book tho!!!

BTW, LOVE Jesus of Nazareth, great score by Maurice Jarre too!!!

sorry...

Jesus is the second most popular character in film - behind "Dracula" - and I think, Tom Savini has played both.

Hell yeah!

John Connor - Jesus Christ

And what about it's indirect sequels - The Matrix

Neo - N/E/O = ONE = The One

i finally watched The Passion of the Christ last wednesday.
honestly.... it was not an easy watch... being such a vivid and painful retelling of the story i have heard millions of times.
but i was touched by it. the blood didn't seem too excessive... the artistic license taken was not inappropriate... and it didn't make me feel hatred toward jews. (whoever came up with that was seriously reaching... how completely silly)

just one person's opinion... but i am glad i saw it. it definitely set the tone for the rest of the week leading up to easter sunday.

Cool Hand Luke was the first thing I thought of, how can someone not enjoy it?

I just kept thinking "Cuckoo's Nest did this but was way better". I realize Cool Hand came first but it still altered my perception of the movie. Also, felt it moved too slow - that scene with his mom in the truck bed, Cut It!

as others have mentioned: Jesus of Nazareth.

That was on every Easter week when i was a kid, though i only ever watched the last episode. the rest of it just seemed to drag on and on, and i usually wanted to watch a ball game or something else (back in the pre-cable, one TV in the living room days).

still, the last episode was interesting, even though i don't believe in invisible sky ghosts or zombie jews anymore.

Could there be three Jesuses in this movie?

Darth Vader of course!! Born of a virgin birth...

...of course if George Lucas wasn't a hack, he would've made the Emporer darth vaders father... so that Darth Vader would have killed his father in order to save his son in episode 6... total hack.

King of Kings hands down.

Not sure if it counts as a Jesus movie but Anthony Quinns Barrabas is also a favorite of mine.

Ive always been a fan of religious movies if done right. Most of which have been named here already.

I have watched the Passion Of Christ and I couldn't believe how it was. It was very distubring. It was probably what really happened. The truth obviously is not easy to grasp.
