recovering info after wipe?

this morning i had a computer problem that lead me to have to reformat my computer,
like a dumba ass i didn't have some info backed up to disk.....
can i gat it back?? keep in mind i'm not a "computer guy" so i don't know all the
ins and outs of a system. i use xp.

Wow, it's been awhile but if I remember right, as long as you haven't tried to reload the O/S you might be able to use one of these tools:

I can't vouch for any of them. The only times I had to recover deleted data I used software from On Track or Norton. Not sure if either still exists.
