It's a dated poll, but Masta Killa should have been on it. His two solo albums ended up being two of the better Wu-brand albums.

That was the night everything changed...
I love the GZA and I really love Ghost, who I think is the most innovative of clan, ... but without the RZA those fools would be selling cds out of a car trunk.

They do indeed. He did amazing work on Fischcale, too. Dilla and the Wu go well together. I just wanted to post "House of Flying Daggers" because it's blowing my mind how amazing that track is. The production is outstanding and each of the MC's just destroys their verse. Method Man hasn't sounded that good in a long time. Hopefully between his good guest spots lately and the surprisingly good Blackout 2 album with Redman he's got another decent solo album up his sleeve.

Nice.
I wonder who is bigger letdown as a solo artist, Deck or U-God? Both have a ton of moments on the group albums where they are just incredible (Deck especially, hell, for that opening verse on "Triumph" alone) but the solo work by both is all just so dull and unremarkable. Maybe they can only thrive on the posse cut?

I have to go with U-God. Inspectah Deck always puts in a good effort on collabs, U-God I could always take or leave. So, if one had to be cut on account of piss poor sales in the Clan family, I'd let U-God go -even though both can't make a good record on their own.

Speaking of U-God, he's the only Wu member to not show up on the album. Pitchfork points out that he was "killed off" on the first album, so if him not being here was a conscious decision on Raekwon's part due to that "storyline," well, that's fucking outstanding.

Considering the work that went into making the record and the care Raekwon put in the project overall, I wouldn't doubt it it was a conscious decision - I didn't even think of that though! Good for Rae, he has shocked us all by actually delivering on his hype. I've already shelved Jay's new record.
BTW, were you as disappointed as I was with Dre's contributions? The Busta song is alright but Catalina, as a beat, I found a bit embarrassing. Lazy, even.
TheMojoPin
09-17-2009, 08:56 AM
"Catalina" is easily one of the weakest things that I've heard put out with Dre's name on it. If that's really one of the best of his contributions to this album it's no wonder one of the delays was Raekwon pulling the project from Aftermath. Such a cheesy song.
