My wife and I are headed into Manhattan from Jersey on Friday to see Frank Caliendo at the Beacon. Could I ask for some recommendations on a good place to eat down there? I don't know the area well.

We plan on being in the city by 5 for the 7:00 show. Any favorites you could recommend? Other than sushi, pretty much anything goes. Thanks!

The Beacon is actually uptown. Around the corner there is a Westside Brewery on 76th & Amsterdam.

Thanks guys! I'll let you know where we wind up.

For some reason I had the Beacon pictured as being downtown. Glad I checked first.

I don't know New York, but I would pair a Frank Caliendo show with salisbury steak and fruit compote.

Now this is a thread where Q Rich can get down.

My personal Favorites:
Gray's Papaya, whichever one you want

McDonald's, KFC, Popeyes, Burger King. I go to each one at least 1 time a day.

And then anything basically fried in oil.

That right there is my daily NYC diet plan. Cant go wrong with that

Glad to see this thread, I have been searching for a similar one.
I am taking my wife to NYC later in the year, she has never been and I have only been on business and never really had to make any choices. Would love any additional suggestions on resturants.
Also, I assume the best place to stay is Midtown if we really want to yuk up all the touristy crap like the hayseeds we are. Any hotel suggestions would be greatly appreciated as well. I am planning on the 300-400/night range, I know that rules out a lot, but should I be able to find a fairly nice place in that range midtown?
Any help is appreciated.

Hotels: Stay away from Times Square. Definitely stay away from the W hotel in Times Square (the one on Union Square is alright)

The Royalton is nice. The Hudson Hotel is a great hotel. The rooms are a little small, but you're not coming to stay in the room, right? Chambers Hotel is nice too.

If you're thinking of staying downtown, stay at 60 Thompson Street.

Actually, if I were coming visiting the city, this is where I would stay: http://www.hotelonrivington.com/

All of the best shopping and restaurants are in this neighborhood. There's a brand new museum - called, appropriately, the New Museum - which is great, and anything you'd want to see uptown is only a cab ride away.

Midtown is Disneyland. Feh.

Google it.

No, it's not the price, it's the crowd.

It's like a bad tourist prom night in that place.

It's NYC. Don't drink the water.

Heading into the city with the family for a show at the Bowery Ballroom tonight. Yelp lists Arturo's as kid-friendly and reasonably priced so that's the first choice for dinner. Pellagrinos' would be next (not kid-friendly tho').

Any other recommendations or thoughts?

I thought that NYC's public water was supposed to be the best-tasting in the US.

Since you will be down near the Bowery Ballroom, I strongly recommend Il Buco. It's fairly kid-friendly for Manhattan. Peasant is also great and in the area.

Thanks, budday! We were running late so we just grabbed a pie at Arturo's. Good thin crust pizza with ground up sausage just like I likes it!

What a coincidence! There's one over here at the mall too! I wonder if it's the same guys? No wait, this one spells it with two r's. NM.
