here are a few reviews.... some good, some not so good.
the thing about hostels to remember is they are NOT hotels. the bathrooms are shared, the rooms are usually small and basic and not always concerned with the comforts of home. They are an economical choice for college students and others who want to save money.
The location is just west of central park ... the area is a good one.
I would feel comfortable with the choice. As long as you trust him... he should be just fine.
Of course, I don't have kids... and would be in a panic if one of my kitties wanted to have an overnight away from home!

a hostel is just a big ass room with beds in it (at least in england thats what they were).
you pay a small fee, sleep in the same room and share bathrooms with others.
they are mainly for travelers who just need a place to crash.
i wouldnt worry.

As was already stated, a hostel is just that. Not a hotel. The neighborhood is great. No worries there. If Nick is a level headed kid (which I think he is) there should be no problem at all. Relax and let him have a blast.
Just tell him to keep an eye on the Strat.

a good hostle rate would be around 20 bucks a nite
theres extended stay places that advertise on craigs list for 250 per week with everthing

That might be the only mistake...unless he has no problem being attached to the case for as long as his time in the city. sleeping on it, and with him for every waking minute. I see no problem with a hostel or even his hayseed buddy not up on his "city game" but I think that the guys would be better off without the luggage. Why paint a target on 'em?

agreed. at that rate, split a hotel room with the $200 they're spending per night.

If they pay 15 bucks a night (each? depending on what they're paying for the hostel, we don't want to me more expensive), they can all stay here at my place. It's in the city, and I trust you.
We need money, lol. Apparently wedding are expensive. Which is why I'm saying any price at all. I'm sure they've already booked it tho. But if they haven't, let me know.
PM me.
They'll be uptown, but their stuff will be the most safe and i'll even show them around if they want. :)
Hostel's are always dangerous to keep your stuff in, no matter where it is.
Ok here's a probably even better deal...
If they want, they can leave some of their stuff at our place and come pic it up when they need it.
That way they dopn't carry around more stuff than they need. :) That's also an important thing when going into a hostile.
It's not where you are, it's who is staying there.

i would have to agree with this. if you are staying in a HOTEL... ok to bring the strat.
at a HOSTEL... leave the strat at HOME.
:)
ALSO - yeah at that rate for three people they can probably get a room at a Comfort Inn for $130 or so a night. thats about what we paid two weekends ago.

Yeah tell him to watch his stuff and not let it out of his sight! Criminals in New York can spot a tourist a MILE away and take advantage in seconds. I know--back in the 80s I left my car parked on a street in Greenwich Village for 2 MINUTES while I ran into a store and came out and the trunk lock was popped and all my luggage was gone. :wallbash:

I didn't know it was you man, sorry. I just saw the Maryland plates and... Well, sorry.
When I first read this, I wanted to chime in...but will now.
I've always been impressed with Jughead on this board in the fact that he seems like a man who has has his priorities straight. He's lived a life and he's ok with that.
Now he's got a family and damn...if he doesn't always talk glowingly about them. Especially his boys. He takes opportunities, to point out how much he digs his kids and shows interest in their interests, which is awesome.
And tonight, he has a question about NYC, he not only came to RF.net, but most importantly he knew as a parent to use his resources to keep his son safe, while letting him live his life.
If I ever have kids, I would hope to be as good as a parent as Juggy appears to be.

Leticia. That is a GREAT idea! You can show them around, and if things get out of hand, Cockstrong will set things right.
Anyway, very generous offer. Maybe I'll send my boys over for a weekend.
