View Full Version : Brett Favre - EPO'S ETERNAL HERO, HIS LOVE WILL NEVER DIE!
Would he have done it if they needed the room? I am not so sure..
Please, don't apply the NY media/fan rules to the Green Bay Packers. The same level of scrutiny does not work.

While reiterating that he's "happy" with his decision to retire, former Packers quarterback Brett Favre said in a recent interview that he might heed the call, should the team need him if starter Aaron Rodgers is injured. "It would be hard to pass up, I guess," Favre told the Biloxi (Miss.) Sun-Herald in an interview posted on its web site Tuesday.
You know he is coming back.

I love this quote from the article...
With his family "tugging" on him to play, Brett Favre has an "itch" to come out of retirement and report to training camp with the Green Bay Packers later this month, according to sources close to the team and player.
Of course his family is after him to play again, they want his ass out of their house too! Apparently he's been sitting in the family room/whittling parlor watching the 1997 Super Bowl on a continuous loop while emailing shirtless pictures of himself to John Madden. You can't blame his family for trying to boot his sorry ass out of there but send him somewhere other than Lambeau.

So apparently Brett Favre is telling other teams how to beat the Packers...
From Fox's Jay Glazer: (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8694746/Sunday-Scoops:-Is-Favre-guilty-of-insider-trading)
Several sources have told FOX Sports that Favre earlier this year phoned the Detroit Lions prior to their battle versus Favre's old team, the Green Bay Packers, and gave them a rundown of the nuances of what Green Bay does on offense. According to the sources, Favre actually spent over an hour on the phone with Lions coaches, who were connected with Favre by then-team president Matt Millen.
And more...
Other teams the Packers have played had also heard about the Favre coaching clinic with Detroit. In addition, there have been rumors that Favre has spoken to other teams giving them information, but most of those teams insist they have not heard from the famed gunslinger.
However, another team says it has had casual talks in the past with Favre and talked about some of what Green Bay does, but it was nowhere near the details he let loose to the Lions.
Fuck you Brett Favre, you are dead to me.

A few years? They won't do it until the current management is gone at the earliest. The new Team President is only 53 years old and can serve until he's 71 by rule.

Why is this a big deal? People hand over playbooks when they sign with new teams all the time. Arrington handed his to the Giants when he signed. It was only a big deal because the asshole defensive coaches had a press conference to state that Arrington wasn't smart enough to understand it (which Arrington responded by saying he handed it to to Giants defensive coordinator, who could make sense of it if he couldn't).

Here's a guy who will never lose his hard-on for Brett Favre. (http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=wojciechowski_gene&id=3804255&sportCat=nfl&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab1pos1)
I thought articles this monumentally stupid could only come out of old baseball writers bitching about sabermetrics and harping on grit and heart. But then I read this steaming pile of words. But this part is just so obviously wrong I need to point it out:
And there can't be any debate that the Packers' skill players, especially at wide receiver, were better than the Jets'.
Really? REALLY? Not only are Greg Jennings and Donald Driver better than Laveraneus Coles and Jericho Cotcherry, they are so much better we can't even debate it? Ryan Grant is better than Thomas Jones? Really?
This is what Favre defenders have been reduced to. Complete and udder idiocy.
Rodgers had more passing yards, more touchdowns, fewer interceptions, more rushing yards and a higher passer rating -- so he's clearly the better quarterback.
He wrote this sarcastically by the way. Because apparently since the jets went 8-8 and the Packers were 6-10 the difference between the records is so great and solely because of QB that it makes Favre better.
I'd expect more logic and intelligence from a Favre fan blog but somehow this moron gets to write for ESPN.

Disproving that statement is literally impossible, as I can't disprove the negative. All I can say is that Rodgers had far superior numbers.
As for Favre in 2007 vs. Rodgers in 2008, you have to look at the teams. The 2007 Packers got all of the breaks and had no injuries. The 2008 Packers got zero breaks and had a ton of injuries.
At this point in time, its not a comparison...by the numbers Rodgers is a superior QB. To state otherwise is silly.

Jets would have been better with Pennington, too.
Favre is a fraud...he's been an average QB since the 2003 season, and has been trending downward since.
The 2007 Packers were decent, but the 13-3 record was a product of playing mostly garbage. Even the good teams they beat that year like the Giants and Chargers they caught early on, when the teams were struggling.
Their success that year wasn't really due to Favre, as it was solid defense and a favorable schedule.
My hunch is that Rodgers probably would have carried them to a good record that year, too.

Irvin: What was the relationship like with you and Brett?
Rodgers: I was under the impression that it was good.
Irvin: Why would you say you were under the impression?
Rodgers: You know what, we got along very well. Especially the third year. But I just wish at some point he had reached out to me.
Kiley: In what way? What does that mean, reach out to you?
Rodgers: Talk to me.
Kiley: He never talked to you?
Rodgers: No.
Irvin: … He still hasn’t talked to you?
Rodgers: No.
Kiley: Why do you think that is?
Rodgers: I’m not going to speak for him.
Kiley: … You must say to yourself, why doesn’t Brett speak to me. What could it possibly be? …
Rodgers: I don’t know. That’s a question for him. I’m not going to put words in his mouth…. When we lost to the Giants [in the 2007 NFC Championship], we left as friends, and I haven’t talked to him in a year….
Irvin: Why will you not reach out to him?
Rodgers: I did.
Irvin: So you called him and he did not call you back.
Rodgers: Yeah.

Brett Favre was released from the reserve-retired list by the New York Jets on Tuesday, making the quarterback a free agent if he decides to again come out of retirement.
There is only two reasons for this:
A. He is signing a 1-day contract with GB to retire-retire.

Childress: Vikings will probably talk about Favre (http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5iEkUMfoSzB9FZJEN0yele8DHHtLwD97TP5000)
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — Brett Favre says he's retired, but Minnesota coach Brad Childress acknowledges it's likely the Vikings will at least assess their interest in the record-setting quarterback later in the offseason.
Childress declined on Friday to directly answer a question about whether he plans to speak to Favre soon. The coach said he has been too busy with the NFL draft and the team's rookie minicamp.
Favre asked for and received his release from the Jets earlier this week. The 39-year-old Favre left his future open with the disclaimer "at this time" in a statement affirming his retirement.
The Packers filed tampering charges against the Vikings last summer, alleging inappropriate contact with Favre while he was waffling again on his retirement. The league dismissed the case.
Asked whether the team discussed the possibility of pursuing Favre now that he's a free agent, Childress said no.
"We haven't. It doesn't mean we won't," Childress said. "We talk about everything, from what's going on in the United States on the front page today. ... So, yeah, I'm sure we'll talk about that."

Source: Favre, Vikes to discuss playing (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4142857)
Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress and quarterback Brett Favre plan to meet at an undisclosed location later this week to discuss the possibility of the former Packers and Jets quarterback renouncing his retirement from the NFL to play the 2009 season with the Vikings, according to a source with direct knowledge of discussions between the two parties.
There is a mutual understanding that sometime soon thereafter Favre will decide whether to sign with the Vikings. The team would expect him to participate fully in offseason minicamps and training camps, which he missed last year with the Jets.

Brad Childress has confirmed earlier reports that Brett Favre will not be coming out of retirement.
Vikings coach Brad Childress confirmed to The Associated Press in a text message Tuesday that the three-time MVP quarterback for the Green Bay Packers would not join his team when training camp opens later this week. Favre's decision was first reported by The Star Tribune on its Web site.
Childress told the paper Favre did not want to put himself through the grind of a 19th NFL season. Favre himself did not immediately offer a comment from Hattiesburg, Miss., where he worked out with high school players this summer in a bid to keep in shape for a potential return to the NFL.
"It was a rare and unique opportunity to consider adding not only a future Hall of Fame quarterback but one that is very familiar with our system and division," Childress said in a statement on the team's Web site. "That does not detract from the team that we have."
Yeah, have fun going to the quarterbacks you got now and saying "You see, guys, we didn't really want Favre after all...", Childress.

Just in time for his first really significant playing time of the preseason, Brett Favre has told ESPN that he thinks he has a cracked rib.
As you may have gathered from the headline, Brett Favre believes he currently has a cracked rib. Give it an hour or so, and I suspect that he'll tell everyone that the rib is perfectly fine.
I suspect that the injury is no big deal, though, as Favre says he still plans to play an entire half tonight against the Texans, and won't wear any special padding. I'm not saying that a cracked rib is no big deal -- I've never had one, and if I had, I suspect it would've made me cry -- but Favre is treating it like it's nothing serious.
Maybe it is, though, and Brett Favre(notes) is just really tough. Or maybe that's just the kind of confidence and swagger that Wrangler jeans can give a man.
No way he's doing this to either have an excuse if he sucks or to look like a hero if he doesn't tonight.

The Day After: Is Favre coach and QB? (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/czar-is-favre-coach-and-qb-122109)
You have to wonder right now if Vikings owner Zygi Wilf is having second thoughts about giving Brad Childress a contract extension.
Isn't Brett Favre the real coach of the Vikings? And isn’t he the real reason the Vikings whipped the Packers twice and won the NFC North?
But...he's just having fun out there and wearing Wranglers.

Don't worry Aaron, all the decent Packers eventually travel West and play in the big leagues. Favre, Longwell, Sharper, etc. You're just on the farm team right now. The Vikings are to the Packers as the Yanks are to the Twins. Just hang in there and you'll get your shot!
But only after Favre leaves.

Exactly.
And it doesn't suprise me too much. Throughout the year, there was a certain sloppiness to the Vikings gameplay. It was less Farve (though there was some), a lot of AP, but there was plenty of other stuff too.
There were too many games where they should have destroyed the other team, but didn't. The 2nd Detroit game comes to mind. Yes, they won 27-10, but they should have played a lot better against that team.
And I really, really can't believe that someone didn't drill into AP when he was very young, how to protect a football. I remember when I was 10-14 years old, watching tv, and practicing carrying a football to protect the ball. It's clear he never did that drill, and every young running back should.

I think when you get down to it he deserves the blame because he made the poor decision.
Regardless of all the other miscues they were still in a position to win that game as long as they didn't turn the ball over.
He's the field general, and loves the praise that announcers are so willing to heap on him when he makes things happen, so he should equally be called to task for making a throw that you're told not to make at any level of football let alone in the final minutes of a NFL Conference Title game.
Sure maybe the kicker misses the FG and they go into OT anyway but we'll never know.
And history should treat him harshly for it because based on what he did against the Giants in 2007 he's prone to do it.
He also had an earlier INT which gave him 2 of the 5 turnovers and maybe 3 if you blame him for the fumble w/ Harvin.

it really is sad. Ive played alot of football in my life. i started at 6 years old, played through HS and with the exception of the last 3 years I was a RB/WR. With all that time, and with all other football, including just pick up tackle games vs friends, i have never once in my life fumbled. i know i never had NFL guys tryin to punch it out, but i was never NFL strong to hold it either. Even in pickup games where every pile turns into 45 seconds of 4 guys tryin to rip the ball out, I still NEVER ONCE put a ball on the ground during live play.
thats why, even though people like to rip on it, i set the - points so high for fumbles in my fantasy league. Very rarely is a fumble excusable. STOP PUTTING THE BALL ON THE GROUND. AP is an embarrassment right now

It bugs me to no end that when I see him running on the left side of the field, and he has the ball in his right arm. Or when he knows he's going down and he's not wrapping it up with both arms.
I think the Saints really were going for the punch on it throughout the game, but they were doing that because they know he's prone to fumbling.
But even with his fumbles, there was enough other sloppy things occurring.

well, the saints do that anyway. Think about that Meechum play. They are probably the best team at remembering to have the second guy in on a tackle rip at the ball. I think they even said during the game the Saints led the NFL in forced fumbles.
Even still, HOLD ONTO THE FUCKIN BALL. In fact, more so. If you are playing a team you know goes after the ball, shouldn't you concentrate even more on holding it?

Last night, one thought going through my head was that, you live by the Farve, you die by the Farve.
There's a lot of times that he likes to force it, and he gets away with it because his WRs are really good. But when you do that, you're going to get picked off.
You just wish it wasn't at the end of an NFC chanmpionship.

I agree that there is plenty of blame to go around, but the point is he didn't need to throw the ball at all. Just gimp along a few yards down field on his bum ankle, sit down, and call a time out.

He was brilliant for most of the year. The team wouldn't have gotten nearly as far without him. He took a bigger flogging during the game than Jesus in Passion of the Christ. Unfortunately, none of that justifies throwing that particular pass in that particular situation. You had to at least ensure that the kicker was going to have a chance to send you to Miami.
This one really stung. There's kind of a pall over the entire area today. You can see it on everyone's faces. Nobody really seems apt to tip their hat to New Orleans because of the agreement that the better overall team in the matchup didn't prevail.
Also, Tiki Barber needs to work with Peterson in the offseason on how to hang onto the @&#&$^#$%@#^# ball.

You need to listen to Trent Dilfer on The Herd today to put the " better team " argument into perspective.
I can't possibly capture all of his points.
But why were the Vikings the better team ?
Because they gained more yards ?
Wouldn't the team that scored the most, w/o the greater number of yards, be considered better ?
What about the team that didn't turn the ball over 5 times ?
What about the team whose QB wasn't hit 16+ times ?
And most importantly wouldn't the better team be hosting the game ?
Maybe not if you don't let that pesky regular season get in the way.

What an epic mistake though, and I wouldn't want it to be by any other quarterback on any other team than mine.

Because after turning the ball over 5 times they were still in the position to win the game. Thats why. This is the NFC Championship. If a team turns the ball over 6 times in a game they should lose by 30...not 3.
That being said, even though there is plenty of blame to go around for the loss with AP and the offensive line, the bottom line is all of that meant nothing if Favre wouldve just ran the 5 or 6 yards and let him try for the field goal instead of throwing such an ill advised pass. Thats why hes the goat. And its well deserved.

2 of those turnovers ended halves for the most part.
The fumble ended the 1st half and Favre's INT essentially ended the 2nd half.
The Saints also turned the ball over so that cancels out 1 of the Vikings turnovers because neither team scored on those.
The better teams doesn't fumble twice in the redzone.
So which is it ?
The Saints should've won by more since they got turnovers, making them the better team since they can apparently can score at will after a turnover, or the Vikings were the better team yet failed to score twice in the redzone ?

But I think his argument is that the Vikings were better because the Saints got 5 turnovers and based on that should've blown them out.
Another Vikings turnover was at the Saints 28 so that's 3 times the Vikings were within 30 yards of a score and came away w/ no points.
It could be argued that the better team is the one that has the most chances to score but I'd disagree and say the better team is the one that scores when they have the opportunity.

"The better team" is an overall designation. You need to look at more than one stat to give it to the team. The team that had overall better stats, etc. for the game would be the better team.
Turnovers certainly should be considered, but it's not the overall determination of a better team.

The Saints capitalized on one of the turnovers and the Vikings didn't capitalize on theirs.

The doubled yards in offense indicates that the Vikings offense was overall playing better than the Saints offense was. That was clear from the second half, the Vikings were making their own opportunities, but due to their mistakes beat themselves.
There are a whole host of stats to back up that the Vikings were playing better, with two the turnovers and final score to the opposite.
Again, what it shows is the Vikings beat themselves.

My point is the Vikings outplayed the Saints. And lost. It happens all the time in sports. Im not trying to take anything away from the Saints, they kept themselves in it and kept it close enough to use the 2 HUGE breaks they got to win the game. I mean Favres 4th quarter pick and the fumble before the half were breaks most teams dont even get one of in a game.
But the bottom line is the Vikings gave this game away at the end alot more then the Saints took it.
