I'm using a Dell Latitude ( not sure of the # ) laptop at work with a docking station and attached keyboard.

Lately I've been having this thing happen where the Scroll Lock button activates itself and there's no way to escape out of it.

Obvioulsy I can't work w/ it that way because it multi-selects everything.

The only way to get out of it is to restart the computer.

I've tried a different external keyboard thinking maybe that was the issue ( although I don't think I've ever used the scroll lock key ) but after disconecting the original one and adding the new one the problem remained with the new keyboards Scroll Lock key lit up.

It's a crazy little thing and I didn;t want to call our help desk and sound like an idiot so I figured I'd test out the problem here first.

I'm using an older version of Windows pre-Vista.

Not sure if it's activating when I do some sort of key combination but I can assure you that there's no way to undo it as I tried almost every keystroke to no availe.

Anybody ever heard of such an issue ?

Try going into the system BIOS. I believe there is a setting to have the computer start up with scroll lock and with number lock on. See if it is set to on for the scroll lock if it is switch to off. If it is not then it might be the docking station. I call the help desk. Something like that sounds pretty easy for them to fix..but then again Dell does have Price arab Dave on the phone line, so maybe not. Maybe the docking station is messed up.

To get to the BIOS start up the computer then when the dell screen comes on look for set up...I think it is F2. Then scroll each entry and see if you find anything with scroll lock. Then once you change it save and let it restart.

Also do some searching on the net..might find the answer that way.

Good luck let me know if it works or if I fucked up your computer worst.

I'll try it out thanks.

And if it shits the bed I'll just wait until they get me a new computer.

I've even shown my manager the issue so he knows I'm not talking out of my ass.
