A new rocket ship has been made with the abilities to cruise close to lightspeed indefinately. This ship is spacious and has an endless food and water supply. There is a two way radio which keeps constant transmission with Earth. This ship will be launched into the galaxy and has the capabilities of an endless flight. The ship will not burn, freeze, or crash. The only concern for the passenger is old age or an encounter with an unknown.
We need one good pilot to transmit what he/she sees. Do you have what it takes?

Your on a roll aren't you?

I will shoot holes in your hypothetical situation. If you are near light speed, time will slow down, (not to mention the effects of an increase in mass) and transmissions will be impossible to make since you are going almost as fast as the transmissions can travel thru space (kind of like the doppler effect). Mike the Teacher will now stun you with his uncanny knowledge of the theory of relativity.

That aside, if these problems were taken care of, no I wouldn't pilot your space ship. It would be like a neverending car trip. I will just watch star trek if I'm in the mood for boldly exploring space. And that doesn't happen.

It would all be so novel in the first say... month? But after that, it's going to be a lot of the same thing. I get bored easily with all the things here on Earth to keep me occupied. NO, I wouldn't be able to do it. I'd suggest a robot to take over the controls and process and report back what he's seeing. Wouldn't have to worry about age or boredome.

Close to lightspeed? I'd take it for a run around our neighborhood... maybe even to our nearest extrasolar planet, but unless this ship has the capability of warp speed or creating wormholes that will get you from star to star in seconds, forget it. Because even at near lightspeed, it would take 4+ years (4 exactly at lightspeed) to reach our nearest neighbor, Proxima Centauri, and there isn't even any planets there.

No. I'd need something faster. And the most recent extrasolar planet map. Or else you'd be crusing through empty space 99.99% of your time.
