My roommate's been trying to get a DVD of his kickboxing match for months now, with no luck. We've needed the damn thing to finish the article we wrote. Well he found it on YouTube today so you all can have a gander at it before even I can.

Here's a bit of background: Richard was a nerdy wee cunt from a small town in Ireland. Spent most of his time reading science magazines and playing weird techno-rock songs, (anybody know Sisters of Mercy? Like that), in a band with his buddies. After high school his brother told him to come live with him in the head-butting brawl capital of the UK, Glasgow, so Richard took up Thai kickboxing for self-defense, (if you guys think Arabs are a violent culture you don't know anything about the UK). Eventually he trained and had one fight in Thailand - where he brutally knocked his opponent out by holding his head and throwing his knee into it - and then came to Cambodia for more of the same. His trainer negotiated this fight with the TV studio, who own the boxing leagues, and Richard was lucky to have only been lied to a few times. But a couple of lies were: that he had to get down to 167 pounds from 174 when actually he only had to be under 174 which is what his opponent weighed at fight time. He was also told his opponent only had one fight, but when we met a guy who knows him he described his experience as "many" fights. And it showed.

But in the end, Richard put up a hell of a fight against a damn good opponent and with a couple more more opponents, according to the fat woman bookie at the fights, he could be unbeatable. Too bad he's decided to go make close to $100k a year working the mines in Australia in order to pay for university.

Enjoy the fights. I'll give a bit more of the story here in the morning.

Man, I loves seeing the kickboxing fights when I lived in Bangkok. Those guys are insanely tough. A big part of their training is just getting their stomach and sides beat to toughen them up. Thanks for sharing the clips, YD! TIGER UPPERCUT!!!

Which one is the Irish guy?

Good freakin' fight!
Your friend Richard's opponent clearly has some experience. Very stable and unshaken. His eyes scan very well and he doesn't have an ounce of timidity.
EDIT: Richard is very scrappy though. A little more experience and he can definitely be a force to be reckoned with.
