It is happy day for almost all the listeners that the merger hasn't gone through.
It will be a happier day once this merger talk is finally ended.

why don't people want the merger to go through? howard?because competition is a GOOD thing, especially for subscribers. Having only 1 game in town will suck, regardless of the wonders Mel promises to come if it happens. At most, they might agree to do what the FCC wants them to do for a year or two, once it becomes old hat they can pretty much jack rates up/change plans/screw subbers all they want because there's nowhere else for people to go.
I'm hoping it doesn't happen but all the analysts & rags seem to think it will.

First of all I don't think R&F would go anywhere.
And if O&A are so good then the good business move would be to keep them around, I for one am for the merger because I like a lot of the stations on Siruis as well as XM. I was sold as soon as Mel said you can make your own channel line-up.
And  I will include the howard 101 in my package.

What?
People don't want to pay $12.99 a month for satellite now, why do you think MORE people would pay more money. The merged service could "jack up" the price, but people would just cancel and new people wouldn't sign up.
And free radio is competition. And mp3 players.

Well i just bought a chrysler that comes with a sirius radio (1 year free). So i am hoping that the merger goes through sometime in the next 12 months.

I'm starting to believe that both of the companies are just stringing along their shareholders. It should only take a couple months at most for a merger to get approved.

not when it involves the FTC. This is a pretty big deal.
I know from personal experience the merger my company just went through that had to gain FTC approval went for over 9 months, and it still wasn't approved until we sold 5 stores to competitors. I can only imagine what it would be like with the only 2 satellite companies in the business that have publicly said Free Radio is not their competitors. It is a similar situation that happened with Whole Foods and Wild Oats. Whole Foods came out and said regular supermarkets are not their competitors and the FTC said you fuckers basically just sealed the deal we wont approve this merger.

Nine months is a long time. It's been a year with sat radio, and there has been no real movement one way or the other. They need to move soon, because a democrat appointed SEC/FTC/FCC won't be as merger friendly as the current administration, especially in the first year.
I missed that about Whole Foods, that was a really stupid thing to do. F'ing hippies.

If I ever inherit a billion bollars, I would send my own sattelite into space and hire ron and fez, OnA, Than and sam, and the Pepper Hicks radio program(yes without johnnie and chris). A man can dream.

So when they were bitching about the merger taking forever today, lil' Jimmy said, "Just say yes."
So, SOS, am I supposed to be against the merger if one of the guys on the show actually want it?

Oh no, SOS. I heard Jimmy AND Opie say they were for the merger today.
You need to talk to them. Obviously, they don't know all the facts about the merger. You should educate them.

WASHINGTON — The chairman of the Federal Communications Commission is recommending approval of the $5 billion merger between the nation's two satellite radio broadcasters in exchange for concessions that include turning over 24 channels to noncommercial and minority programming, The Associated Press has learned.
That condition — along with others, including a three-year price freeze for consumers — convinced FCC Chairman Kevin Martin on Sunday to recommend approval for Sirius Satellite Radio Inc.'s buyout of rival XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. The deal affects millions of subscribers who pay to hear music, news, sports and talk programming, largely free from advertising, in homes and vehicles.

That's why the merger is going to suck. Sirius/XM is gonna suck government cock for the deal to be approved, and programming is going to go downhill.
Deal me out once this goes through.

Well it sucks, but its the only way XM can survive in any form. It was so promising in the beginning - XM had relatively good sound quality, top notch technology, and deep playlists. Unfortunately that's not what the masses want, and that's who you have to market to when you have the kind of overhead these companies carry.

No, that would prevent him from signing up for his Social Security benefits.
