This month they are only home for 9 out of 27 games and at the end of the month they do a 10 game away streak.

They're on the road right now. Just won the first series. They play 23 of their 32 games this month away.

Which one of us cant count?

How amazing has Edinson Volquez been?

Very Amazing...I saw him last night.

But it'll be a shame when Dusty runs him out for 150 pitches six starts in a row and his shoulder explodes.

He ruined Wood. He ruined Prior. I have to think he came close to ruining Zambrano.

Me. From when they started this trip on Monday, 23 of their next 32 games are on the road. I screwed it up by stupidly saying that it was all "this month."

Make your runs now, Pujols is down and the Cards will definitely be struggling while he's out. I don't expect a total collapse but it's as bad of an injury as any team can take.

On the bright side, Duncan will likely be called back up. He was tearing up AAA batting a whopping .190 with no homers since getting sent down. So there's that.

TheMojoPin

Dude, quit trying to get our hopes up. Duncan will show up and suddenly turn into an insane hitter. Ludwick will keep having his freak year and Ankiel probaby will turn into a beast with the bat again. The Cardinals have consistently turned shit into gold under LaRussa...I'm waiting for them to sign Ponson and watch him dominate.

I'm sorry...the last time I checked there was only 2 divisions in all of baseball that had 3 teams over .500, and the NL Central was one of those divisions.

And we didn't need two teams with a combined payroll of $340million to do it either.

It depends upon the stadium for interleague. Games in the AL ballpark favor the AL, games in the NL park favor the NL. That's what history always shows.

The stupid AL team has a wasted spot on some useless DH and the NL uses that roster spot on a utility guy or an extra reliever.

Flores-Walk.
Springer-Two singles.
Villone-Pitching with the bases loaded, 1 out.

Wellemeyer only threw 84 pitches. Just 1 hit, 1 walk after the first two innings.
I am pretty sure he could have loaded the bases, why let the bullpen do it?
On the other hand, I'd be pissed if he was still in and getting shelled.

Come on double play ball.

Ok, I'll take a strike out. Now get the third one fuckfaces.

Fukudome has been dogshit for about 2 months with no signs of getting better. Aramis has stunk for over a month. Lee hasn't hit a HR in a month. Wood is sidelined with the blister. Marmol is iffy at best. The bench is incredibly weak. Still no Soriano.

Yeah, it's a miracle the Cubs are still in first. I'll be stunned if they come home from this road series still on top.

He didn't, but he still kept them within striking distance all game. The offense just shit the bed. Their road woes are going to be a big problem. I really think Hendry needs to add a big bat. Go for it all. Milton Bradley, if he becomes available, or hell, Holliday. Shoot for the moon. I would love to think the Cardinals are gonna slip, but they are so damned fundamentally sound. Offensively, they lead the league in walks and have the least strikeouts. Good defense. I have no idea how their pitching is any good, but give Duncan some credit. Plus they have LaRussa.

Although, they are in a spot in this series, down 0-2 and the Brewers now throw Sabathia & Sheets in the last two games of the set.

If they get anything out of Wainwright and Carpenter, they're going to hold strong the rest of the way.

I like what you're saying here, but unless Carp and Wainwright are going to pitch out of the bullpen, which as of now they aren't, then the 8th and 9th innings will continue to be a giant shitfest. I don't know, maybe one of them will end up relieving for the rest of the year. God knows no one else is going to get three outs in the 9th.

You'd think they'll pick up an arm before the deadline.

There's a lot of bullpen arms on the block this year.

I would think Anthony Reyes still has some trade value. But other than that, I'm not sure.

Still, i would think you can grab a guy like Grabow from Pittsburgh, or Mahay from Kansas City for some B or C level prospects.

They're not going to close, but either could be solid at the back-end of a bullpen.

Actually, moving Wainwright to the bullpen when he comes back wouldn't be the worst idea. That, or throw Looper back there. He was an ok closer once upon a time.

This home plate ump should be reprimanded.

A. Makes a horrible call on Fielder for a called third strike.
B. Yost takes 3 steps out of the dugout to question the call and gets rung.
C. Yost argues and get separated by the 3rd base ump...and the home plate ump follows.

B is completely unacceptable. C is ridiculous.

He's had a year to recover.

From TJS. This is still considered pretty early for coming back from something like that.

He's had two rehab stints and he threw a ton of balls in both (essentially half of his 61 pitches in the first and in the 30's again out of just about 70 pitched in the 2nd) which doesn't bode well for a guy who relies so heavily on his control and can't go deep in a game.

Three men from the Chicago area - ages 25, 26 and 34 - will be spending a little more time in Wisconsin today after being taken into custody on allegations of substantial battery in the beating of a 24-year-old West Allis man after Tuesday night's Milwaukee Brewers-Chicago Cubs game at Miller Park.

There is about 10 versions of this story floating around Milwaukee right now. Here is the version from WISN (http://www.wisn.com/news/17037746/detail.html):

Milwaukee police said the 24-year-old Brewers fan threw a bag of trash at a bus full of Cubs fans in a Miller Park parking lot following the game. The man was allegedly being taunted by the fans on the bus.

The suspects include one man from Joliet, Ill., and two men from Downers Grove, Ill.

A 34-year-old male suspect was arrested and was cited for disorderly conduct, assault and battery (for allegedly punching his sister during the incident), resisting arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said all men involved were intoxicated.

CC Sabathia wins again tonight, throwing a 5-hit shutout. Since coming over, he is 6-0 with a 1.57 ERA in 7 starts with 4 complete games.

Serious question, could he win the CY Young in the NL?

I'm going to say no, though he may deserve it.
No bias in my statement.
Just thinking the voting people won't give him his due.
What fucks with me is how he can pitch so deep into a game consistently and no one else in baseball can string together a couple CG's. It's unreal.

Seriously, he's worth every penny that he gets in the off-season. Tonight he only threw 103 pitches while striking out 9.

He'll be the difference to them into getting into the postseason. (No offense to Felipe Lopez.)

Well, Felipe is the difference in the Cards making the postseason, so I will see you there.
But really, it doesn't make sense that he is so much better than anyone else. If he were a Cardinal, Mojo would accuse him of doping.

I'm not sure why a 6'7", 300+ lb pitcher would dope, but sure.

People just need to get over their fantasy baseball numbers about the Cardinals. They are a good team that plays very fundamental baseball. Their hitters have high walk counts, low strikeout totals. Their fielding is solid and those outfield arms are impressive. And as much as people hate to say it, LaRussa is a smart prick.

I guess the thing that drives me nuts about the Cardinals/Brewers vs. the Cubs is the player development angle.

Why not? Sutcliffe did. Although his trade was slightly earlier in the season, but similar results.

By a rough estimate he should have 9 more starts left. There is no reason the writers should judge him as "not enough" for this stretch.

They'll probably hold his bad start of the season against him. Also, Brandon Webb will likely end up with 21 or 22 wins, and even though they should hold the awfulness of the NL West against him, they wont.

But presumably you're USING him to get to the playoffs...a month and a half away. And presumably you want there to be a good chance of him being effective in the playoffs. Pitchers and catchers tend to burn out more than anyone else towards the end, and it's looking more and more like the Brewers are going to be battling until the finish to make the playoffs. Wouldn't it make sense to try and give some extra rest to a pitcher who has obviously helped this team immensely since being acquired and is going to need to be a big part of making that playoff push? After 6 innings today, the Brewers never had less than a 5-run lead, yet Sabathia stays in the whole thing to throw 130 pitches. That's ridiciulous. He doesn't need to pitch CG's more often than not. The bullpen is iffy at times, but it's not that bad.

I'll keep saying it...outside of the limited payroll, Yost is the biggest fucking anchor dragging down a really talented young team, especially when it comes to the pitching.

Mind you, that you are pushing the "130" number out of context. Sabathia got into the ninth with about a 105-pitch count.

So he gets into "trouble" with an easy 7-run lead and nobody up in the pen for good reason this is Yost's fault? This is a pitcher that has a track record of 120 pitch counts working for the best and him talking about how he "likes them".

At the end of the day, I'll say this, you worry about Lou, I'll worry about Ned.

Every pitcher thinks they can keep going, often even when they're in obvious pain or discomfort, especially the "horse" pitchers like Zambrano and Sabathia. It's a manager's job to reign that in and keep these guys potent down the stretch. Pitching Sabathia past the 7th inning last night can't really be spun as anything but pointless and rather dumb.

Yost is burning his players trying to save his job.

Obviously, he's going hogwild with Sheets and CC since they almost certainly won't be back, but I think Yost is just playing to get to the playoffs more than anything else in the hopes that that's enough to keep his job. Obviously, winning it all would be preferred, but he's making such blatantly dumb decisions with his big pitchers when playing it conservatively at times would be the better call for the long run that it seems like he's hoping stumling across the finish line in September would be just enough...then, if the Brewers tank, it can just be blamed on two guys who were out of there anyways and Yost is safe to butcher for at least another year.

Wow, Pirates stink.

Don't fret. Contrary to the final result today, this game just highlights the bullpen problems the Brewers have. Another thing to notice is that the Brewers have ended up winning a very large number of 1-run games this year. Statistically (ew, cooties!), however, teams that tend to end up in a ton of 1-run decisions actually end up having that being detrimental in the long run. You can, yes, chalk up the Brewers winning two dozen 1-run games to a good amount of luck...luck is huge in the small series, but with 30 games left to go, luck tends to not be enough.

The Brewers defeat the Pirates 7-0 behind a 1-hitter by CC Sabathia. However the one hit was borderline at best and should/could have been called an error. The Brewers have appealed the call to Major League Baseball, but honestly at this point...who cares as "the moment" has been lost.

CC is 9-0 since joining the Brewers with a 1.43 ERA. Sabathia for NL CY Young bitches!
