Does anyone know if there is a way to convert VHS to DVD using just my computer?

Sure. Use your computer to get the number of someone to do it for you.

I'm sure there are better ways to do this but...
Going through this excercize now converting some/all/parts of our analog VHS-C tapes from when my son was born 10 years ago. The tapes are already starting to deteriorate so it's time. James makes a good point but there's a lot of stuff I want to edit out.
I'm using a DVD/VHS combo deck into the S-video input of my Aver TV card. The Aver software has a record function (not on TV). Allows you to save as .avi .mpeg etc. with different frame rates. Burn to DVD.
Will go through the same excercize in 10 years when the DVD's start to break down.
There is probably recording software out there as well that would get you to the same end.

Get a few external hard drives man, they are cheap and if you have dual copies, as well ad DVD copy of everything, youll be good to go for more than 10 years. For family stuff you may even want to use online backup as well.
