Dennis Quaid as Hawk, Ray Park as Snake Eyes, and just announced - Christopher Eccelston as Destro!

So... will this be a good movie or not? I heard they are decentralizing it, making it less a US-centered team and more of a world-wide task force, which makes sense. Kinda.

i loved esd's explanation...

Ironhide: Why are we fighting to save the humans? They're a primitive, violent race.
Optimus Prime: Were we so different? They're a young species. They have much to learn. But I've seen goodness in them. Freedom is the right of all sentient beings. You all know there's only one way to end this war. We must destroy the cube. If all else fails, I will unite it with the spark in my chest.

they are robots that fight! thats all they do!

I grew up in the era of all these 80's throwbacks and loved them then, but come on, people. They were shitty cartoons and comics for kids. Of course they suck when someone tries to make them "real."

I went back and reread some of the Joe comics a while back. There's actually some good reading there, good war stories.

Some good actors attached to the movie, I hope they make a good war movie instead of the suck they're most likely to make.

An interesting note on the GI Joe/Transformers

There are 2 references to G.I. Joe that I know of that are in the Transformers movie:

Josh Duhamel's character, Captain William Lennox first appeared in the comic book "G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers"

One of the F-22 Pilots has the name Capt B. Armbuster written on his cockpit. Armbuster is a part of the G.I. Joe Team, Code Name: Ace. In the original GI Joe comic series, he was the pilot of the Skystriker jet.

Pretty lame, I know but before submitting it I decided to do a Google search just for the hell of it. Look at what I found. (http://www.variety.com/VR1117981181.html)

<!-- end photos --><!-- /noindex --><!-- leave following div in place for infusion -->Universal Pictures has announced a six-year partnership with Hasbro to produce at least four feature films based on branded properties.

The properties include “Monopoly,” “Candy Land,” “Clue,” “Ouija,” “Battleship,” “Magic, The Gathering” and “Stretch Armstrong.”

The deal comes after the successful screen transformation of the Hasbro property “Transformers,” which DreamWorks and Paramount turned into a Michael Bay-directed global hit, and which has a sequel scheduled to begin production this year.

Hasbro’s “G.I. Joe” will be a 2009 tentpole for Paramount Pictures, with director Stephen Sommers just beginning production on the film. Lorenzo di Bonaventura has shepherded both properties as producer.

No, I don't think the NFL would have been too keen on the Fridge coming with a firearm.

When I went to film school we respected the popcorn/blockbuster guys like Michael Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer. My freinds film was bascilly one of his movies. To me it's all art just a different part of the spectrum. Oh and more pictures of Scarlett.

I think in the comic they were supposed to be a relatively secret branch of the military. The cartoon didn't bother with that at all.

I'm just assuming that the movie will go for a "black ops" route based on the pics and the overwhelming desire to take shitty 80's kids characters and then make them "edgy" as if that automatically also makes them good.

To be fair, it was named for a 1960's toy and they wanted to keep copyrights so they reinvented it. The cartoon is cheesy and really did not age well, but the comic had some really strong premises and stories, and it helped that Larry Hama pretty much did the entire run.

I was a big fan of the comic Larry Hama rocked, GI Joe special missions was really cool and for a comic based on a toy series went for realism

I was the target of this stuff growing up, had a few of the toys and watched the cartoon, The comic was much better then the cartoon
