There I said it.
I don't care how much Ron and Dave prosteltise(sp?) about Woody Allen and his movies I cant stand anyone of them. Let me begin by saying I have seen most of them and I am not just a popcorn movie guy. First off he hasnt made a successful movie in ~20 years. All of his movies are critical darlings but to me they are for the most part self indugent dreck that is NY centered to a fault. Ive heard about what a genius he is and how everyone wants to work with him But he puts himself, a whiny ethnic character, as a lead in every movie, keep him

He has NEVER had a movie earn more than $40Million dollars EVER, not that box office matters but come on.

Care to differ or agree?

The problem here is I think Woody Allen's definition of success differs from alot of people's definition of success. Match Point and Mighty Aphrodite were both fairly successful. I wouldn't go so far as to say he stinks, I wont sit around and talk about how amazing he is. He's getting us a Scarlett Johanson lesbian scene next time out, so dude is alright.

Dave's baby enthusiasm makes me hate movies I previously love to watch, I get totally disgusted when he does his awful 'smart dave' voice that sounds like he just shot milk out of his nose.

I've had many anti Wes Anderson diatribes in my day, and I actually really like him.

But actually, I can understand how he wouldn't be your cup of tea. This kind of humor isn't for everyone.

i didn't hear the show today. seldom do live, but my take is woody allen is still fantastic. i thought "match point" was one of the years' best, and the other scarlett johannson vehicle that i think was called "scoop" was very entertaining. his attention to detail is unparalleled. in "scoop" when he tells scarlett he stays skinny by worrying was laugh out loud classic allen. the twist in "match point" was brilliant. nah, the woodman still has it goin on. got to love the woodman. crimes and misdemeanors: one of his best. he seems to be constantly struggling with justifiable homicide. that's a little off putting/

WhistlePig
02-11-2008, 07:10 PM
I like a lot of his old movies, like "Sleeper," "What's Up Tiger Lilly?" and "Zelig." I don't laugh out loud at movies that often but I did at these. (And there's a creepy scene during the credits at the end of "Tiger Lilly" that has a very young asian girl doing a seductive dance in front of Woody while he lays on a couch--this was years before the Soon Yee scandal--that makes it worth renting).

I can remember liking Woody Allen movies when I was very young. I've always liked him, though I probably haven't seen anything close to half of his films.

But...

Considering dave gets them and thinks they are funny really sinks you theory that his films are for people who understand smart humor.

Some of his films are ok but most really suck, I found some of his spoken word shit funny as hell though.

Argue about your opinion of him all you like, but those numbers are astronomical.

and come on, what's funnier than Julia Dreyfus (whatever her name is), blowing Woody Allen in the kitchen and hid blind grandma walking in? That's funny shit!

And watch-it with any Wes Anderson shit talking:furious:
