My mother has wanted Fios since she heard about it. A few of her friends have had it for a few moths and say its great. It is finally in my moms area so I tried to configure everything she wants. 2 DVR's, all the premium channels like hbo, showtime etc, 3 cable boxes for the other tv's. Internet sounds slow for some reason 20mbps/5mbps you cna upgrade that too, to 20/20. When its all said an done it cost more then shes paying now
The fees for Internet, tv and phone before adding anything is a package deal and savings for $99 a month.
Once you add everything I listed above it becomes $199 a month. I told my mother why pay more and activation fees, and instillation fees for no reason. She seemed upset. Can someone who has it tell me if its worth it or why my configuration is so high?

i'm getting fios installed this week. the 20/5 is higher than the normal opt online speeds. I didn't get the movie channels - but may add them later - and one hd box. it'll run me about 125 a month with taxes and whatnot

March 5th I'm gettin' it installed
It's gotta be better that my horseshit Comcast connection that I have now. I think everyone on my street has Comcast online and it sucks all the bandwidth at high traffic times.
Can't wait for FIOS!

let me know how it is when you get it. it still seems pretty expensive. If a normal house has 3 or 4 teams and wants hbo it sounds kind of expensive. is anyone getting the free tv?

My chicks parents have it and they really dig it. I'm not sure how much they pay but they have two DVR boxes and the movie package.

I have had FiOS internet for a year and half, and I love it. And I have had FiOS TV for 1 year, the only problem I have with the TV is the HD. They have the capacity for tons of HD channels, but they have been slower than both Satellite providers and even Comcast had added more HD channels in my area than Verizon has in that same time, but they still have more than Comcast. The TV is about $10 cheaper than basic Comcast cable here and we get 120+ more channels for $10 less.
Plus they have a premium movie package which has 45 channels of Showtime, Stars, Encore, TMC, Sundance, IFC for $13, and on Comcast Showtime by itself is $13

i got it installed about a year ago and i love it. all in all it cost me less than i was paying for cablevision so i don't know how you ended up paying more. i think it's $135 with everything (DVR, 2 boxes, movies, etc)

I am loving my fios, i have been with them for about 6 months or so. It ends up costing the same as i paid for optonline AFTER the triple play offer ended. Right now I dont get the movie channels I had, but that really doesnt matter to me, i rarely watched them. The multi-room DVR service makes the entire fios system amazing. They have an amazing on-demand library. There are new features coming out this year including the ability to program your DVR via your cell phone, streaming divx files from your computer to your set top box and games that can be played on your box. Plus you also get the NFL network.
The internet is very fast. much faster than anything i have used. I am an avid downloader so that is a must. Usenet access is okay, but there are issues with articles missing and several popular binary groups arent there (like alt.binaries.boneless). That being said, it is still better than optonlines access.
Phone service is phone service. I did like that I could access my voice mail online with optimum, something i have yet to figure out on fios.
Overall it is a good deal and I dont see myself switching anytime soon.

Highspeed internet (DSL and Cable Modem) is usally measure in kbps (kilobits per second) instead of mbps (megabits per second). 1mbps = 1024kbps. So 20mbps upload is pretty fast, even 5mbps (your upload speed) is not bad

My buddy down the street just got it and he is really liking it so far. It just became available in our area. He had some trouble at first with their service guy not showing up and not really knowing much about installing it. So for a few days it wasnt working right. But once it was all fixed, he said the picture is a lot better and its cheaper for him.
I worked it out for myself and it would be more expensive than Comcast. So I decided against it.
