Conventionally unattractive man gets good-looking girl in the end. I almost walked out of Clerks for this very reason alone.

First of all, who was the "good-looking girl" in Clerks? I think Randall was technically the prettist girl there. And secondly, who ends up with this mysterious "good-looking girl?"

Personally, I've never walked out on a movie. I know my own tastes enough and read enough reviews to smell cinemtic turds like that from miles away and just simply avoid them. I never understand how people end up stuck watching films they hate.

I was thinking the same thing. Dante didn't have any girl by the end of the movie, and Randall was watching Tranny porn.

He had to mean Clerks II.

Yeah, I assumed the same thing. Though I blame that more on Dante not laying off the pies for a few weeks.

I've decided that even if he meant Clerks II, he's off.

Yes, Rosario Dawson was out of Dante's league (in part because of "the pies"), but look at the writer/director. Kevin Smith is, by his own admission, a very heavy man, with no sense of any clothing style, and he has an attractive wife, who let him kneel behind her while she was getting ready to go out, and jack off looking at her ass and pussy.

Look at Ric Okasiek getting Paulina. Look at Lyle Lovett, and Julia Roberts.

So I say to you, FMJeff, nay on Clerks II. Nay.

Though the difference is, those are all dudes who are varying degrees of famous, and Dante is just some schlub working in a burger joint. Though then again, she's also just some schlub manaing a burger joint.

In the end it doesn't really bug me because I know plenty of women end up with guys that at first glance are way, way, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay under their league. Hell, most of them have dated me.

True, but it's not like any of those chicks couldn't get good looking famous guys. That point would be more persuasive if the chicks themselves weren't famous.

But Paulina as a supermodel, and Julia as Julia Roberts, could get a lot of good looking famous guys (and Julia Roberts did, actually). But they did marry these famous schlubs.

Yeah, but Smith's wife was an entertainment reporter for USA Today. I think I'm technically more famous than she was.

I'm too shallow to go with that. I've broken up too many relaitonships over pop culture opinions.

Not you Mojo no way no how will i believe that, i could see over a disparaging remark about the cubs but not over pop culture unless they liked the spoof movies

But i have walked out of two movies - National Security and K-19 the Widowmaker which is the absolute worst film ever, i should have known when it said National Geographic in the opening credits

2) Conventionally unattractive man gets good-looking girl in the end. I almost walked out of Clerks for this very reason alone. I am tired of writers/directors fulfilling fantasies through their own films. YOu can't get the hot girl in real life? Don't put it in your movie. Live vicariously some other way. There is a reason ugly guys fail to net the attractive girls in the real world. They're ugly. It's the same reason people don't buy the Pontiac Aztec or wear Cavaricci jeans anymore.

Dante ending up with Rosario Dawson? Give me a break. Not in a million years. I guarantee he couldn't even get Kevin Smith's wife. Dante is a whining fag. Wah, my life isn't where it should be. Wah I'm working at a fast food restaurant in my mid 30's.

Dante is a semi-intelligent adult now. If he had any sense he'd have some low level paper pusher job that pays more than his gig at the fast food place. (and it seems he was intentionally written not to have any as he would not be a clerk anymore)

RIC OCASEK = rich lead singer

See I can suspend my disbelief there b/c it was a piece of software used to design metal molecules. People come up with new polymers and what not all the time. What's to say an engineer from the future with a lifetime of experience can't teach a metal molecule designer software a new molecule?

And what's to say an engineer from the future would know how to work an Apple? A 1984 Apple.

Let me help you understand why that is possible.

RIC OCASEK = rich lead singer

Accept for Smith, the women they married were either equally or more famous than the schlub they married.

Paulina could have had richer, better looking guys than Ric Ocasek.

Julia Roberts could and has had richer, better looking guys than Lyle Lovett.

It would be one thing if these chicks were poor, non-celebrities who married nerds to hop on the wagon and get supported. That's not Paulina and that's not Julia Roberts. So the $ thing is a non-factor.

The Kevin Smith thing may work, but it doesn't for the others.

Well Julia Roberts was relatively a new face in the industry when she married him. It was only 3 years after Pretty Woman. So she probably didn't have the financial stability she has now.

But that's besides the point. If you're a famous musician, looks are just not part of the equation. Women are naturally drawn to performers. Men who can command a crowd.

I would say lumping the lead singer of the Cars and a popular american singer together in the same group of guys as a loser like Dante is just inaccurate.

It's not equating these two to Dante, as comparing their relationships with their wives, and Dante's relationship with his girl.

Listen, I agree that it's a cliche on television shows and commercials showing schlubs with attractive wives, but it does happen in real life. And of all the valid movie cliches/problems you point out, I think this one's probably the least of a problem for me.

I'm not discounting it, I'm just not going ot watch a movie about a career loser going through the ACHES and PAINS of having to decide between two beautiful woman, neither of which even consider the possibility that he is an unattractive, slightly obese american male with no career goals and an equally sad hanger-on friend.

It's in men's genetic code to marry out of their league. Genetic code designed to breed the ugly out of the species. Look at any rich guy, there's a golddigger to match.

The real question is who's more superficial, the rich dude or the golddigger? She gets to buy pretty things and he gets to feel pretty things. It's a tossup.

Ok then, In my homeland I would say when I see a babe I'd probally say the dude lucked out but then I'm not sure I'm not biased or can aptly gauge a dude's equivalency factor. For the most part I've always noticed that people pretty much pan out. Ugly, mediocre, or hot, they find their opposite sex equivalent.

Money, power, sense of humor/wit, smartness, and fistfighting ability will all tilt the scale proportionaly for either gender, the attraction of compromise.

Ok. This raises a somewhat unrelated question -- do people really find Kevin Smith's wife all that hot? I mean, sure, for a USA Today reporter, she's probably the bee's knees, but is she really that much of a head turner? She was kind of the odd chick out when decked out in tight leather with that jewel stealing gang in Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. Glad you lucked out and were able to marry up, Kev, but I don't know that your wife is as hot as you think she is.

She was OK in J&SBSB. But she is definitely NOT that hot in Clerks II. The blonde hair was not suited for her at all. It also kinda looks like she got a facelift.

Edit: Looking at pics, she definitely had something done; her entire faced changed weirdly between 2003 to now crossing the line from "yeah, I'd go for it" to "What the hell?"
