Wonder if it's a case of "what did he do this time?"

I saw this but none of the articles say why.

What a shame. He's become a glittering example of what NOT to do and how NOT to behave as a adult in a position of some authority. A man who demands dicipline who can't control himself.
I'll miss him greatly.

Possibly. Regardless he is the greatest bball coach not named Wooden of all time. Despite his shanigans, the vast majority of his former players have nothing but praise for him. Whatever you may think of him, this is a huge loss to college bball.
With all the hype of the Pats running the table, I was thinking of his undefeated season at IU in 1976, the last time this has happened. Yes not as big as an undefeated NFL season, but 32-0 is pretty impressive.

Interesting reasoning behind this...he's saying he was going to quit no matter what after this season, but he wated to do it now to give the staff (who are apparently all staying) and players time to gel without him over the last 10 games so that they don't have to do it cold next season.

Yeah, something is up. One possiblity - He did want his son Pat to be his replacement...maybe quiting mid season like this forced the hand of Texas Tech to promote him from assistant. If he quits at the end of the year, they are more likely to conduct a full blown search. Who knows.

Part of the deal was that Pat would succeed him. Kind of like what Eddie Sutton did with his son Sean at OSU.
