OK, here's an idea:

Name a half-time show for the Superbowl.

The rules are that it has to be cross-demographic friendly that both younger and older people can enjoy the band, plus they are non-controversial, or at the very least, not buried in controversy.

Jack Johnson

Im not even fuckin around. Everytime I have seen him do something live, he always comes up with some really cool shit and covers some song that would be the last thing you expect to hear him cover. You wouldnt have to worry about inapprpriate shit and I think it would be good for halftime

However thats also cause my top 10 choices probably wouldnt even be allowed in the stadium, nevermind do the halftime show

Although a lot of people would turn up their nose, Bon Jovi would work well in a halftime spot.

So would the Eagles.

considering his last three albums were #1, #2, and #3 on the US charts and his new album coming out on Tuesday already has massive pre-order sales on Itunes, i would have to say you may be wrong.

how about someone who has been relevant in the past 10 years?

I think that is the majority of the problem they get performers that anyone under 30 could careless about.

Everyone up and down the board LOVED Prince, and he hasn't been "relevant" by anyone's definitions for the past 10 years.

personally i hate prince so that did nothing for me.

Obviously you wont please everyone, and I will not mention any bands as most of the bands I like aren't even known. But I think snoogans is on the right track with Jack. Young and Old audiences do love him.

I would have liked to have seen myself perform at the SuperBowl. But I was never good enough. I was too selfish. I would much rather throw 50 times and lose then throw 30 and run 20 and win, that was always the problem.

That and my hands get really cold without my Isotoner Gloves

they're too old and it's not because i was a big fan but Grand Funk could have pulled it off with some of their hits Some Kind Of Wonderful, Locomotion, and I just think We're An American Band would get a big reaction. They always received more acclaim for their live performances

plus SKOW and Loco are covers of songs first done by black artists done and it would be more crowd friendly

my other choice would be Collective Soul

Has U2 already done a super bowl? And is there a law against doing it twice?

If not, my vote is for the remainder of the 85 Chicago Bears singing the Super Bowl Shuffle.

Lenny Kravitz would have been great this year. He has a huge crossover audience kinda like the way Tom Petty does. I mean like Petty, no one would call Kravitz their fav artist, but very few people would turn his music off if it comes on the radio. He also has a new record he is promoting now (i just got a hold of it and IT KICKS ASS!).

That could really work as a crossover to the young & old, especially if they brought out Brian May & Roger Taylor to jam some Queen like they did on tour a few years ago. Just something to keep the fans awake during halftime. I like Tom Petty but his energy level doing three great songs put me to sleep.

Alright, this thread is turning stupid.

1. Stop it with the "their album was #1". It's a stupid argument.

2. Jack Johnson? Are you fucking serious? If you would have said Dave Matthews, you might have a little bit of crossover appeal. Jack Johnson is seriously for girls, hippies and retards.

3. The Eagles. They essentially have the same issue that Tom Petty has...what appeal is there to non-middle aged white people? Answer: None.

4. Bon Jovi. Uggh. I would shit all over it, but I'll admit that it would be popular. It would suck, but it would be popular.

5. Perrynoid is a genius. The Foo Fighters would rule.

As for my two cents, I think the best fit for the Super Bowl is an R&B act. It has the best crossover appeal and everybody knows the songs. If somebody could convince Sly & the Family Stone to play they would rule. Stevie Wonder would kill. Hell, even though I don't like them, the Black Eyed Peas would probably do a great job as well.

Giants - 3
