I do, maybe because for 19 years I never gave a thought as to not trusting others.

No way! I was a waitress at an
up scale country club-- I saw
what went on there! (People
spitting in food, serving
rancid salad dressing). You
think I trust fast food
workers? NO WAY!
These days, I TRUST NO ONE!!
(except for dear, sweet
Sheeplovr, of course!)

well...i was a "fast food worker". if you go during rush hours the food is fresher but late nights are not the safe time. plus the chicken is grade "D".
burgers are the safest.
i was a cashier.
i didnt taint any food.
I came here to chew bubblegum and kick ass...and I am all out of bubblegum.

As a person training to be a restaurant manager, I am shocked and appalled by this conversation.
But not surprised. Don't trust anybody. :)

Being a person who has been employed by the gamut of restaurants, from Fast Food Franchises to 4 star French Restaurants, I have seen it all. It doesn't matter how fancy a restaurant can be to be affected by food tampering. I would see 4 star chefs drop food on the floor that was at least $300 a plate, and then put it back on the plate and serve it. I have seen guys hawk up big lugeys into bowls of soup that were turned back because they were too cold. Urinating into drinks and anything in liquid form would be a common practice when there were irate, snobby, rich regulars that mistreated the staff. I did not participate in this, and never would, but I would never treat my food server like a bucket of shit either.

See here's what bothers me....You all are just limiting this to fast food places..I guarentee that horrid things happen to food in upscale restaurants as well.

I trust fast food workers to give me the freshest snot money can buy. I know that at Mickey D's, the pubes are fresh, and sometimes, they're so nice & lengthy, that you can floss AS you eat! I can't believe that Sweet Melissa said "taint" in her post.
I'm just sayin'.

And as I was saying... a few years ago I was cooking in an Italian restaurant, and Monday night was always REJECT NIGHT. It seemed as though all of the people that were deathly afraid to leave the house would sneak out on Mondays, when the world was quiet, and come to the restaurant, like sheep, or lemmings. Of course, this also made Monday night--ASSHOLE NIGHT! Most mondays, I would show up for work at 4pm and immediately put a veal cutlet down my pants, and slosh around with it until the "right" customer asked for veal. One night, it was a particularly horrible night, just a-hole after a-hole, giving every waitress a hard time, so I wound up with 2 veal cutlets, 1/2 lb of calamari, 6 meatballs, a side order of fries, lobster fra diavolo, shrimp cocktail, and a DUCK down my pants! That was more than I could handle, so I finally quit. At least they let me keep the duck.

I debated whether or not to mention this, but I came to the conclusion that it's my duty to get this info out. I worked at Dunkin' Donuts when I was a teenager and you wouldn't believe the vile things that go on there. People would drop entire trays of donuts and put them right back on the shelf. I would occasionally see a roach or fly crawling on the donuts as well. I can say with relative certainty that the only safe thing at Dunkin' Donuts is the coffee... that's because it's brewed so often and so quickly that it doesn't get a chance to become contaminated. Then again, I worked during a busy shift... I have no idea how long they leave the same pot of coffee out late at night. I also worked at Baskin Robbins. I had a very nasty Chinese boss who ran the store like a sweat shop. If we screwed up someone's order, when the customer left, he would make us "eat our mistakes". If we couldn't, he would sometimes tell us to put them in the big freezer in the back. When no customers were around, he would make us get the old, freezer-burned ice cream from the back and scoop it back into the tub to serve to someone else. "Risa, go get your chocorate mistake and put it back in da bucket." Before these experiences, I really loved both donuts and ice cream, but I find it hard to eat them now. Thank god I never worked in a brewery. Hope I didn't ruin anyone's appetite.

a great bookon this subject and the restaurant industry on the whole is kitchen confidential by anthony bourdain. he is the head chef at les halles on park ave. and it is true an eye opening telling all book.
he said the same thing about monday especially seafood. they get it on thurs from the fulton market so its already 5 days old. he also said that the worst time to eat was sunday brunch. the A staff isnt working because they got pounded from the night before and its usually some dishwasher mixing up the eggs for hollindaise. best nights are tuesday and wednesday. always the freshest. oh and specials on the weekends = leftovers.
circusboy and ten - where do you goto school. i'm giving up my career in film production and appling to the culinary institue of america for the spring?

This a no go here...but O'Henry once wrote that some of the most upscale eateries in NYC have some of the most appalling conditions in there kitchens...so basically, your food is going to be messed with wether it is at Wendy's or Tavern on the Green...just paying for lower quality of "stuff" when you go to fast food joints...
