I'm currently trying to get reinvolved with Legos. Which newer sets should I start with?
Keep in mind, it will have to be a really great set to tear me away from my Albanian buttsechs.

You can go to LUGNET (http://www.lugnet.com/) to read lots and lots about lego... maybe find reviews of stuff you might dig.
If you dig mechanical things (replying posters -- you are welcome), you can checkout the Technic (http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Leaf.aspx?cn=57&d=70) line and Mindstorm Robotics (http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Leaf.aspx?cn=17&d=70).
There are Trains (http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Department.aspx?d=328) too (again, you're welcome)...
Mojo is an evil prick.
Ditto for Sammich.
I love them.

World record claim for Lego tower (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/berkshire/7386537.stm)
A 100ft tower made out of Lego bricks will be verified as an official world record, organisers hope.
Thousands of children and their families used almost 500,000 bricks to build the structure at the Legoland theme park in Windsor, Berkshire.

I prefer the plain, non-themed legos, so I can build free-form houses and stuff.

I agree. So many of the castle, space, ghost viking, and star wars sets have weird specifically molded pieces that hinders the freeform play.
That's why I am curious about the new "Creator" line. Seems kinda old school.<p>

I made this kick ass boat car a couple of weeks ago. It got disassembled because my daughter needed the wheels.

i had just about every space-themed set when i was a kid. had a whole hierarchy going: white-suit guys were the construction workers, yellow were the maintenance guys, red were the drivers/pilots, blue were the commanders (since not many of the sets came with the blue-suit guy).
good times.

So it became just a boat then?

There's some toolish outfit that sells plans and kits to make various firearm models out of legos, with actionable slides and whatnot.
