I have a dell I bought a little over a year ago and it stinks!
I hate it so much that I wish it could feel physical pain, I actually want it to suffer.
I am pretty much at the end of the rope when it comes to windows machines. I think I may take my George W money and put it towords a Mac.

I am not even sure, it freezes up all the time, it will claim it is missing updates and when you try to install them it crashes. I may back up my files and wipe it and reload windows, but I don't know.
It just seems like every time I buy a new PC it is a little worse than the one before that.
I think it may be time to switch sides.

Sure, maybe get a Mac. No reason not to. I was at Best Buy the other day and the new Mac's are priced pretty competitively. Good to see.
Well, don't hit the Windows machne. I punched the side of my HP a few weeks ago. Hurt my hand, dented the case, unseated the processor and fucked up the HD as well.:nono: Mike.
Assuming it's a Vista or an XP box of some sort. Firewall, AV, and spyware scan up to date? OS Legit? Installed any funky progs lately? Spend any time on Shareaza or LimeWire or the like lately? Was there any significant event in memory prior to the shit you are experiencing now that may have precipitated this current shittiness?
When it hangs\crashes, does it direct you to a log file of the event?
When did the problem start happening? The usual questions...
Hold down the Windows Key and "r"
type msinfo32 or dxdiag in the run box and click ok.
What are the specs of your computer?
What version of windows?
How much RAM does it have?
How big is the hard drive and how much free space do you have on it?
What is the processor?
Is your computer running antiviral program(s) and what is it?
Is your computer running a firewall program and what is it?
What is the computer's graphic card?
Is the computer on a surge protector?
Have you run a thorough scan on the hard drive recently?
Have you defragged the hard drive recently?
What is the temperature of the room that contains your computer?
Is there anything you do that causes the problem ?
What error message are you receiving?
-Does your computer freeze after the error message?
What updates does it say it needs?
What are all the programs that are running when the computer errors?

IM and internet explorer are the programs that seem to crash it most often.
What seems to be the biggest headache is I will come home from work and go to hop on and check ebay or whatever and it will just freeze up. I can move the curser but it won't let me click on anything. I either end up restarting or it will just kind of fix it's self after about 5-10 minutes.
The other problem I have is that from time to time when I start it up it will give me an error stating some part of my anti virus is missing and I have to do a system restore.
One thing I would like to do is unistall McAffee anti virus. I think it is part of the problem. It tells me my computer is not protected and when I go into Mcafee and click the fix button it says certain "one or more problems require attention" but doesn't tell me wich ones or how to fix it. I feel like the anti virus is doing more harm than good.

try doing a complete restore. save all your date to a disc or another hardrive and wipe it all out. if the problem is still there you know its a hardware issue.

i've had dells for close to 8 years and they've run great. i do remember updating to IE 7.0 and it was just F'd up so i backed out of it to the previous version. plus in 8 years i have never run an anti-virus program. just one time on a laptop i caught something so i downloaded the free anti-virus from Cablevision and it got rid of the virus but the new virus s/w made the laptop run like a dog...

I really think its the mccafe thats the problem. I can't find an uninstall for it under the program file menu, can anyone suggest how to just get rid of it once and for all.

LOL!
i have a six year old mac, and a new 3ghz pc, along with an ibook, i can say the six year old mac is a joy to use, even if it is 450mhz, and has never had a virus.
if you dont play pc games, there is no reason to use a pc.
especially now with boot camp built into new macs, if you must you can run windows on your mac..
so get a mac, keep your copy of windows (if you were even given one and not a "restore" disc) and get on with your life.
