Is there anyone out there that enjoys fishing?

I'm always curious to see if internet people like to go fishing. So, does anyone fish?

Fresh/Salt?
Favorite fish to catch?
Favorite spot?

I'll be heading to Ft. Desoto in Tampa Bay on Sunday morning for some flats fishing for the Grand Slam (Snook, Redfish and Trout) if anyone wants to go.

I used to be a freshwater fishing fanatic, and I loved going for bass (large and smallmouth) and trout. For some reason I haven't gone in a few years and I really can't give a good excuse as to why.

My boat and trailer have been sitting in my buddy's back yard for years and my tackle box and rods must have an inch and a half of dust on them at this point down in my basement.

I think I should make a real effort to get back into it this Spring. Nothing in the world clears my mind more than sitting on a peaceful lake and casting. It's better than meditation.

Good luck tomorrow TeeBone!

My in laws' neighborhood has a bunch of large stocked ponds (mostly bass and one fairly large catfish), so I have a couple of rods I keep at their house. I fish once or twice a week from spring to fall. I've also done a little bit of saltwater fishing down in Sarasota, which I thought was boring, until I caught a battenhead shark about 3-4 feet long. I also caught a nice Redfish later on the same day, that was a nice little battle. Have a good time tomorrow!

I wish i could show you some pictures from last summer of the large mouth me and my son's caught..My uncle has a pond that is the best..about 6 acres only about 5 feet deep except for one big hole about 80'x80'.The big crappies hang around the edges of that hole..Around the main lake are a bunch of little lakes where he raises Koi......In 2000 he started with 7 pair about 13 inches long each fish was $600.00..Something to do with the color they were as breeders....He sells alot to people for there home ponds..Anyway It is a great fishing spot in the main lake... Ive been blessed to be able to go out there the last 20-30 years

I used to go freshwater fishing in the lakes and ponds around here, but for the last 6 or 7 years I've only been saltwater fishing either on party boats or surfcasting for flounder, striped bass, sea bass, bluefish, and weakfish (sea trout).

I ran a couple of fluke (flounder) trips from the bar with about 50 people each time. I hired the boat, the bus, packed "coffin sized coolers with beer, a thousand mini bags of chips from costco, and my friend in Hackensack has a pizza parlour...he made up a shitload of sammiches each time for me. Good times. Here's the boat:

I used to go fishing all the time with my grandfather. We would go for walleye on lake erie and walleye, perch, and bass on chautauqua lake (a small lake in WNY I currently live on. I haven't been in years but now that I live right on the lake and have 2 full months off in the summer, I'm probably going to pick it up again.

Nothing like fresh walleye IMO.

I am planning a trip this year to Montauk during the prime striper run. The first time I caught a striper I wanted to find THE PLACE where I could catch more of them on a consistent basis. Every source tells me Montauk is that place. I can't wait.

I love to go salt water fishing any chance I get. Any offshore fishing is great, whether it is for fluke, sea bass, or blues. I've never surf fished, I want to try it this year.

I enjoy it but I don't do it as much as I'd like to. I'm going trout fishing in a couple weeks though. I go with a group of buddies every year to a lil fishing resort on the White River in Northern Arkansas. We do a little fishing, a lot of drinking and eat like kings. There were actually three years in a row I went and didn't even wet a hook. I will say there's something about being in the cold river catchign trout. We use barbless hooks to catch and release. www.stetsons-resort.com

I also went dea see fishing last year in Cabo. Got two marlin and a nice tuna. A friend of friend's cook that lives down there fired up the tuna and some fresh mahi mahi and it was one of the best meals of my life.

Do you have the big fishing pole holder rig on the front of your truck?

I went out to Assateague with my bro-in law and we went fishing it was pretty cool. I used to fly fish in Northern Wisconsin when I lived in Minneapolis. Fishing on the beach is very different, but it's much easier grabbing a beer out of the truck than having to haul it upstream in a pack.

We were fishing when the salmon were spwaning one year, it was great but you really had to be on the look out for bears.

I like fishing, but I never do it anymore. I started fishing some again about five years ago, to have something to get my son out of the house. He lost interest in it, so I haven't gone since. Both the poles and gear have been sitting in my car's trunk ever since then.

Dad caught a hundred pound sturgeon

I have love fishing my entire life. When I was a kid we would fish in the harbors on the north shore of Long Island and catch all sorts of things (snappes, blues, flounders, assorted odd bottom fish). Now that I am older I live in Virginia and still enjoy fishing in lakes. I enjoy fishing with my kids and fishing with my friends. When I fish with my kids its just the two of us doing this together, when I'm with my friends its nice to get away from everything and just sit there.

What I catch or where I fish is irrelevant to me. I just want to be on the water fishing.

Today was perfect.
78 degrees, no wind, no clouds, calm-clear flats fishing at its best where you could spot your catch all morning.
I bought 2 dozen select shrimp this morning at 8:30 in the local bait store; the Bait Bucket. By 10:15, I had already caught 2 small reds and SIX 20+" Trout. I took the last one I caught, a 23", 5 lbs Trout home with me. I had 4 shrimp left that I threw back into the bay.

(SIDE NOTE)----The Trout Was Delicious

A picture of the fish now sits on the wall of fame board at the Bait Bucket near the entrance to Ft. Desoto State Park.

A great day fishing, indeed. I am planning to go again on Sunday the 17th if anyone in the Tampa area wants to go.

Love fishing, always have. Was fishing in Florida last month... lots of grouper, but nothing keepable. I grew up between a river, the Schuykill, and a crick, the Wissahickon. Days like today would be perfect for trout after school. On the weekends it was down to the river for catfish, bass and the occasional monster carp.

It's shark fishing this summer once again. Last year I, and two other friends, took turns landing a nice thresher.

My wife and I love fishing, mostly saltwater. Out here we catch King Salmon and the all-encompassing "Rockfish", or "Rockcod". King Salmon season was cancelled this year and probably next year, which completely sucks, but the population is way down, so something has to be done. King Salmon is to the Pacific Northwest what Blue Crab is to New England. There is nothing like it.

We also fish for leopard shark off the shore in brackish bays. It's fun fishing, but the meat is high in mercury and other bio-magnificates, as well as ammonia, so we haven't done that in a while.

I've never understood sport fishing or hunting, but nothing beats having a freezer full of pristine, wild protein that hasn't been blasphemed too much by agricultural rape.

I fish at least once a week. Mostly salt water, but some fresh. I caught a roughly 5 foot shart 3 weekends ago. It took about 40 minutes to pull in. It was the biggest thing I've ever caught. I mostly catch mangrove snapper, red fish and jack. The occasional snook and lady fish.

I always loved fishing. I used to always be at Jack's Pond or Miles Pond as a kid in Staten Island. Now if I fish in Staten Island, I usually go to Wolf's Pond, Gateway Beach, the pier at Hylan Blvd. and Sharrotts Road, or just hit up a charter boat out of Great Kills Harbor.

I haven't gone in a while though. I gotta get out this year.

My buddie and I went out on a Tuna trip on 9/17/02. We went 8 hours straight out into the Atlantic and I did not catch a thing but after all the 9/11 covereage and work it was the best trip I had ever been on.

Mother's Day weekend-----South Jetty of Barnegat Bay. I can't wait and maybe if I'm lucky, I'll get that damn legal Striper I've been trying for the last 2 seasons. Blues will be there and from what I've heard, are being caught HUGE. It sucks about the tautog(Black fish) closing tomorrow. Usually, the season stays open through May during the spawn but New Jersey closed it this year when the Federal Government cracked down on the poor fish population. Is this because of all the illegal catches? and New Jersey fisherman info would be great.

Oh I love fishing especially since we moved to the lake and have a dock right in the back yard. I came home from work the other night and the lake was like glass so I went down for a while. Caught 1 keeper, 2lb Walleye

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v601/Hunnerbun/IMG_0317.jpg

The "dogfish" is Squirt, he was chasing the hook as I cast and took a header in the lake. Shelties are NOT water dogs! He's a bit puny, maybe I should have thrown him back...LOL.

Along with the lone walleye I also caught 3 fair sized Northern Pike (over 12") but here they are considered garbage fish so they went back, great fighters though.

NIce.

are any of you non-new yorkers seeing a downturn in fish population?
they have been upping the regulations the last few years to crazy low limits here on Long Island, especially for Summer fluke.

Native American's netting habits have put a hurt on the fishing around here, but the DNR has put more strict regulations on the the us so the fishing has gotten better.

N. California fishing report:

Went out for Salmon with an early start. 4 fishermen, 4 18-25 pounders in 2 hours, nothing for the next 4 hours. Went north for rock cod and lings. I hooked a ling that was one inch shy. We all pulled in some rock cod minnows and called it a day after 11 hours. At least we each got a nice salmon, the rest of the fleet seemed to be doing a lot shittier. The party boats didn't boat any fish today. Fish and Game has effectively used their propaganda-justified management to cripple sport and commercial fishing out here. This could have realistically been my last fishing trip in my neck of the woods.
