Microsoft Offers to Buy Yahoo for $44.6 Billion
(http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=afTypoeszx30&refer=home)
Microsoft Corp., the world's biggest software maker, made an unsolicited $44.6 billion offer for Yahoo! Inc. to challenge Google Inc.'s dominance in Internet search services and advertising.
How do you feel about this? Will it change many things?

I don't use any of Yahoo's stuff, so it won't change anything for me.
What it means for Yahoo fans is Micro$oft is about to ruin everything you've come to know and love.

I use yahoo everyday. It happens to be the only search engine and email service I use. I never understood the love of google.

Geocities has blown a fat one since 2000. Ever since our wacky militia sites were taken down, it just has no personality to it at all.

Google is better then yahoo when searching. But at least Yahoo doesn't give search information to governments looking to censor its people and lock up dissidents. I'll bet a lot of Chinese people are waiting on Yahoo to make it through the commie firewall.

Every so often, someone convinces me to give the Yahoo search engine another try. I'm always disappointed. Plus, Google has so much other cool stuff like Google Maps. As for the Chinese stuff... Those Chinese citizens shouldn't have chosen the government they have.

Microsoft had terra-server almost 10 years before google maps (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TerraServer-USA). I don't even like microsoft, but google maps is late to the party with ortho imagery online.

Terra-server was just a satellite thing, wasn't it? That's useless for finding your way around. Google Maps blows away any of the other map sites that I've ever used. Plus, I have Google Maps on my cell phone. Works great.

Yahoo has done the same exact thing as google when it comes to China.

Me too. It will take years for this deal to go through, and maybe a year for MS to make improvements so we're safe for now.

The google maps part is the same as mapquest or yahoo! maps. It's all based off the same TIGER census road files. There is nothing new to google maps. It's just gimmicks and pretty packaging.
Amazon, of all people, came out with street level photographs for their online mapping application 5 years ago. Google still hasn't rolled that out, so they're pretty behind with their mapping stuff.
