Reports say that Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Bahrain are also experiencing severe problems.
They block out porn over there anyway so it's not like they're missing out.

An official at Egypt's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, speaking on condition of anonymity, said it was believed that a boat's anchor may have caused the problems, although this was unconfirmed, AP reported. He added that it might take up to a week to repair the fault.
An anchor?

A third undersea Internet cable has been damaged in the Middle East, adding to the disruption in online services after two other lines were cut earlier this week, the cable operating firm said.
The Falcon cable was cut 56 kilometres (35 miles) from Dubai, between Oman and the United Arab Emirates, according to its owner, FLAG Telecom, which is part of India’s Reliance Communications.
The repair ship had been notified and was expected to arrive at the site in the next few days, the company said on its website.
Flag Telecom owns another cable that was damaged off Egypt on Wednesday. A repair ship was expected to arrive by Tuesday to restore that cable and repairs were expected to take a week, the company said.
The outages have disrupted business across the Middle East and South Asia, including in India, where businesses said it may take up to 15 days to return to normal. (http://www.nationalterroralert.com/updates/2008/02/02/third-undersea-internet-cable-damaged-in-mideast/)
I know this happens on occasion; a ship will drop anchor and damage a cable. but three in a week?

Hell, we took out two fishing trawlers in a year just by surfacing our subs in the Pacific, and we're the professionals. I'm surprised they haven't rammed two oil tankers and sunk 'em.

How about four?
A 4th Cable Is Now Being Reported Cut (http://www.nationalterroralert.com/updates/2008/02/04/4th-undersea-cable-break-between-qatar-and-uae/)
No ships were present when two marine cables carrying much of the Middle East’s internet traffic were severed, Egypt’s Ministry of Communications has said, contrary to earlier speculation about the causes of the cut.
The cause of damage is not yet clear, but ArabianBusiness.com has been told unofficially the problem is related to the power system and not the result of a ship’s anchor cutting the cable, the implausible theory touted by European and American media networks.

terrorism?
Possibly.
But I suspect it's a conspiracy.
It's affected the Middle East and a good chunk of Asia...including India.
We do business with a vendor there...communications with them are a bit sluggish right now.
(Of course, this probably means our jobs are safe for a little while longer.)

What Most Likely Killed the Undersea Data Cables
Stephan Beckert, research director at TeleGeography, studies these undersea data cables every day of his life, and has the best guesses as to what really put them out of commission.
•There probably isn't a fifth cable, according to his sources and the Khaleez Times in the UAB seems to have double counted one.
•One cable is officially not cut, but is suffering a power outage.
•Likely, the rest of the cables have been damaged by fishing nets or boat anchors (those two causes account for 65% and 18% of all undersea cable problems).
•Officially, he believes the chances of the cables being cut by "sharks with laser beams on their fricking heads" is unlikely.
•While two cables cut in a week is a bit higher than average, its not unusual: Last year, 50 cables were damaged in the Atlantic alone
