Hell, I AM fat.
But, I used to be skinny. I must have put on 20 lbs since Thanksgiving and I gotta get rid of it and back into the mind set. I had lost a great deal of weight on the Zone and kept it off for 3 or 4 years, but it started creeping back once I got a desk job.
Now, I cant even button my pants and I really need to lose weight.
I cant seem to commit my mind to getting back into the Zone. I keep thinking "soon" or basically putting it off for one invented reason or another.
Can anyone offer me any suggestions that can get me to make and keep my weight lose goal commitment?
I dont want this to be me. Help!

What kept you motivated before? Why is that motivation gone?
Do you have a physical fitness goal?
One of the suggestions I've heard bandied about is to sign up for a physical fitness event - 5k, 10k, half-marathon, triathlon, etc. - so that you have no excuse but to train for the event.
I've heard of people staying motivated by training with Team In Training, the training partnership arm of the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society's Triathlon. . .when you have other people whose schedule is linked to yours, it helps you stay active.
Of course, the potbelly photo you posted should be motivation enough: multiple studies have shown that carrying weight around your belly can contribute to developing type 2 diabetes (http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9803EFD71438F936A25752C0A9649C8B 63) and heart disease (http://www.nytimes.com/2005/05/10/health/10meta.html?_r=1&oref=slogin). (I am not kidding! (http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9E06E7D9163BF935A35754C0A9629C8B 63))
Does that help?

It does help, and I am motivated to start to do something, because I do not like how I look and feel and I can see people looking at me and imagine them thinking "why did he put on so much weight? Last time I saw him he looked good, what happened?".
I know I am eating larger portions than I used to and I started having sweets that I used to shun.
I know I have to be the real motivator and that I have to be so sick of how I look and feel that I motivate myself.

Blackbird, you need to get kick started.
For the next 5 days, you and I are going to eat right. We're going to be conscious of every single stinking thing we put in our mouths. We're going to eat what we know we should eat, and we're going to eat less of it.
We're going to drink a ton of water. I'm sitting right next to a gallon jug of distilled water I just bought - because I had this little talk with myself a couple of days ago. I drink one of these every day.
At the end of those 5 days, you'll see how you feel, and go from there. But right now, we're going to do it right for 5 days.
Are you with me?

I over ate today and actually got sick from it, so now I am very committed!

Alright!
I actually had some cocktails with a friend today which fucked up my thing today, but let's start tomorrow - wednesday.
I'm serious, and we're both going to feel better after 5 days. I need this jump start as much as you do, so I'm psyched.
see you on thursday

write down every single piece of food or drink that you put in your mouth. quantity, too.
do that for a week.
then, sit down and look at everything you ingested- no cheating.
"holy shit" will be the first thing that pops in your head.
