This is the first movie I've ever had to walk out of. Between the shaky cam and intenseness of the first 30 minutes or so, I actually felt like I was going to be sick and had to leave the theater for a moment.
I really could not believe how the movie made you feel like you really were in this guy's body.
I don't think I've ever been more into a movie emotionally. This movie was amazing. Everything about it. I was absolutely blown away. And I cannot get it out of my head. Amazing.

this is the one movie (of the ones people say were great this year) that doesn't interest me in the least. i was bored by the trailer and imagine i would be by the movie itself.

Really? I hadn't seen a trailer for it, I had just read what it was about and it seemed so amazing.

I was simply taken with the fact that the lead so closely resembled Mikeyboy. Its spookily uncanny.

the book has come up a lot for my boyfriend in school since he's going to be a neurosurgeon, so since they attending physicians he's worked with kept mentioning it he decided to try to read it & he couldn't even make it a quarter of the way through. i'm guessing it's just gonna be too trippy for us squares.

And Thanks, Ronnie B, as there is NO way I'd have ever picked up on this film without you.
As a Hayseed Redneck from Mississippi, I have you to thank for introdicing me to a ton of movies I'd have missed. It was moving, and one of those I won't be able to forget for many moons.

SO, I guess we will have to agree to disagree.

I loved this movie too. I thought it was very moving but didn't try to manipulate your emotions through over-the-top music or exaggerating how heroic he was. I don't think I have ever seen a movie that puts you in a character's shoes as well. I really felt for the guy. I also love that he came across as a real, flawed person who still ended up writing a book through blinking. I also loved the music and thought it was pretty cool that Julian Schnabel couldn't speak French before he did the movie but was pretty much fluent by the time of release.
If you liked this, you should also see Basquiat since it is also a Julian Schnabel movie with a great soundtrack.

The book was amazing, and the film was even more amazing. And i also fell in love with Schnabel watching the behind the scenes stuff. Talk about a guy who loves his work and his subject matter!!!
Incredibly beautiful and moving, particularly the women in Jean-Do's life. Mebbe I'll watch it again today.

Schnabel is great at using music in his movies. that tom waits tune was perfectly placed in in Diving Bell.
