I like it a lot. More of a return to a southern theme that they seemed to try to depart from on "a blessing and a curse". isbell's songwriting is missed but patterson picks up the slack with some heavy hitters and cooley's got some good numbers as well. and shonna ... never knew she had it in her.

My thoughts after a couple of listens:

*Overall, I thinks it's their best album since The Dirty South. Back to more of a country sound.

*Some of the songs are really slow...like Cowboy Junkies kind of slow.

*I'm glad that Shona got some of her songs on the album, but...it's that I don't like her voice, I'm just not impressed with the depth of the material. There's a LOT that can be done from the female perspective in the DBT style. Maybe it's there and I just haven't picked up on it yet.

*If I had to bet, I'd say this one is the last studio album.

Last studio album? How do you figure? They're gonna break up and go their seprate ways now? Without a doubt it's their best album since "Southern Rock Opera". The band has had to reconfigure itself since Isbell left but I only see them getting stronger. There's always music available on CMT if you don't like the Truckers.
