Ever since that shit ass Scary Movie, they're all useless pop culture observations that are old before the film even leaves theaers. And that's all they are...observations, not jokes. It's basically, "hey, remember that movie with the Spartans? Y'know how Britney Spears is crazy? Hey, do you use YouTube?" That's not a fucking joke, assholes. i don't think i've used it that often, but you do come off as a bit of a culture snob at times. is this movie going to be gone with the wind? no, but that's not the point of the film. it's just to be ridiculous and silly.

we have different tastes and goals in film/tv and i accept that. i still can't imagine not finding family guy funny.

That said, hating these movies requires zero amounts of "snobbery." Saying hating these is snobbish is like saying finding a hot shit sammich to be horrible is being a food snob.

I just hate hack shit that is instantly dated like these movies. Zero effort goes into them, and their randomness isn't silly or ridiculous...it's just pointless and lazy. Parodying or satirizing or spoofing movies like 300 and the other major sword 'n' sandal epics throughout the years could be hilarious...it's a genre ripe for it. But why bother doing that when you can randomly have Donald Trump show up? Or Britney Spears? Or Shreck? What the fuck does any of that have to do with making fun of 300 and its ilk? Don't bullshit me and pretend like you have a theme wih these movies, Hollywood jerkfaces. Just name it "random shit from the last 6 months we want to remind you of (BUT NOT ACTUALLY MAKE JOKES ABOUT)" and be done with it.

It is not made to be a Time Piece. It is silly fun that will make a few bucks at the box office, not much on DVD, and that's it!

I agree w/ Mojo on this although I did think the first Scary Movie had some funny parts.

Any and all movies of the like after that have sucked.

I barely got through Date Movie and didn't get through 25 minutes of Epic Movie thanks to Cabelvision shitting the bed and sparing me.

I also enjoyed Not Another Teen Movie which I think was a little above Scary Movies 2-whatever, Epic, Date and any others.

I'd rather see a generic spoof film like BASKETBALL or AIRPLANE. Ya know... where they take a hack premise and then actually write some humor into the script.

It's called Now That's What I Call Movie, Vol. 1, and it's going to take all the pop cultural references you thought you knew and show them to you again, except this time they'll be "jokes." Sample scenes are below. (Apologies to Friedberg & Seltzer if some of these ideas overlap with Meet The Spartans. Chalk it up to parallel non-thinking.)


Now That's What I Call Movie, Vol. 1 Ideas:


--Atonement/Transformers spoof: Keira Knightly falls in love with an Autobot. When they are separated, she whispers, "I love you" in his giant metallic ear as the music swells.


--Something with a midget that looks like Donald Trump


--Javier Bardem's character in No Country For Old Men kills people with farts instead of with a pneumatic air gun.


--An American Gladiator (probably Wolf) aims for McLovin, but accidentally kicks Juno in the stomach. A watermelon falls out from underneath her shirt. She's been faking the pregnancy! Wolf and Juno exchange looks/grunts. Juno takes off and Wolf chases after her as she yells, "Honest to blog?"


--Big Bird hits Flava Flav on the head. Flava Flav falls down onto an oversized clock.


--Cousin It is the new receptionist at The Office. He flirts with Jim through coy meeps and hair shakes.


--The Hills/Norbit spoof: Whitney & LC are having lunch. "I just got a text from Norbit," LC says. [30 second pause] "W. T. F?" Whitney says. The girls stare at each other and say nothing for a minute while the strains of Mandy Moore's cover of "Umbrella" fill the space. Then, out of nowhere, fat-suited Eddie Murphy leaps over the table and tackles LC screaming, "Aw, hell no!"


--Britney Spears is an Other on Lost ("This is my island, y'all."), Beowulf ("I am beowulf, y'all!"), or both.

These films are always #1 the first weekend. Then even most of the people that wanted to see them realize they suck, bad word finaly takes over in totality and they plunge off into the abyss by the 2nd weekend. Since they're so dirt cheap to make, however, that's all it takes to make a quick buck.

This girl tells me Date Movie is funny last year, so I watch it. She lied to me and said it was funny. I made the mistake of watching Epic Movie on HBO last week because it has the redhead from Heroes. I IMed someone to ask if the movie is ever funny. The answer was no. I'm not making the mistake a third time.

One of the Zucker Brothers is making a straight up Superhero parody film. Since he's one of the masters of the genre, I have faith in his film.

I'm a big superhero movie fan, so deep in my heart I want to like it. It also has a Zucker's name on it, and shouldn't that count for something? But I look at the previews and so far it's just "Hey look he fell down! Oh he ran into something!" and it looks awful. I've only seen one preview so maybe it'll look better as we get more previews? But somehow I doubt it.
