im looking for a program that will formatt .divx movie files into DVD files that i can use NERO to burn to a DVD disc.

what program do you guys use?

i downloaded divx movies and a divx converter, but it seemed to only convert it into another .divx movie

is there a way to play .divx movies on a dvd player without having to use a program to convert .divx to something else?

No. You have to use a converter.

I make backup copies of my DVDs using DVD Decrypter, and I can convert them to play on my iPod Nano (3rd Gen) using Videora iPod Converter.

I just checked www.videohelp.com (http://www.videohelp.com) to see what software they suggest. There's a freeware program called FAVC (http://favcfavc.googlepages.com/)that you can use. I use TMPGEnc's video convertor and their DVD Authoring software or DVD-lab Pro. Vista Premium/Ultimate can also convert videos to DVD without any special software.

I use a program called "convertxtodvd" easiest thing ever. just drag the file and drop it in, then press the button, it converts and burns.

It was a zip I made so no it doesn't. Your scanner is probably falsely reporting the patch.

get yourself a divx certified dvd player then. You can put 6 movies on a single dvd and you don't have to waste hours converting each movie.

They'll set you back 50-60 bucks at walmart or futureshop. worth throwing out your old one.

but how is the divx quality over DVD quality?

the philips dvp5960 is the player to get, if you are indeed going for a player...

http://www.divx.com/products/hw/detail.php?p=335

The USB port is great for movie watching off flash drives.

I bought this and shortly thereafter i was introdiced to the wonders of streaming media players. You store your divx files on your hard drive and network the player via powerlines or wifi to stream everything, videos and music. Now I have an original Xbox modded to run homebrew and downloads. Xbox Media Center is the ultimate way to watch your movies or listen to your music. I never use DVDs or CDs anymore and everything is automattically shared online to people I know via FTP.

Any way you chose, you shouldnt have to worry about converting divx to DVD. It results in a loss of quality in the end and is nothing but time consuming. If your goal is to have media on a DVD and you are downloading your material (not that I condone such nefarious activity mind you, it does seem to happen out there) just download a rip of the DVD. It is there as an ISO ready to burn, with all the dvd bonus features/extras.

Playing the DivX files are the same quality as they are on your computer. Without the DivX player converting from DivX to DVD sucks. I always had problems with the audio not synching or it corrupting.

Yeah that's the best one there, I have the 1080i upscaling HDMI one before this one with the usb came out. With the USB you can play your illegally downloaded media off a 2GB/4GB usb stick without having to burn a disc. Also you can hook up a 500GB usb hard drive you like.

The phillips play all varieties of divx and xvid, even those QPEL and other odd typa divx files and set you back no more than 70$.

I don't need it because I too enjoy the benefits of the greatest open source software no-ones ever heard of before XBMC, Xbox media center. You don't even need to unpack .rar files shared on your network, it plays the .avi right through it. 20 minutes to download a movie to watch it on my tv with 5.1 sound. No copying, no burning, no unpacking, and my computer is not even on because it's all shared on a NAS hard drive hooked up to my computer. Delete it when your done with it or burn it if you want to keep it.

Holy shite, i had no idea you could do thats with avi files compressed in rars. I knoew you can read through the rars for subtitle files. More to play with I guess.

Yeah I used it for like a year before I realized I could. The best way to set it up is to share your torrent download directory and then browse to your movie folder, then click the white button and choose play movie. It ignores the sample and plays CD1 and CD2 back to back without having set up a playlist or unpack anything.

Rarely a movie will be packed a certain way and XBMC will ask you to uncompress a large file first which takes forever but 98% of the time when you see a .rar just click it again and you can play the contents of the rar, mp3 avi jpg whatever.

Another tip is to map your videos, music, pictures category to multiple shared directories. When I click "videos" it displays some movies in one folder on one computer and some tv and video folders on my NAS drive. If all appears as one folder no need to browse through "workgroup". Just "white" click and set my videos and then set it as default.

What are the movie companies doing about the dvd recorders? I'm sure they would absolutely fight these machines tooth and nail.

Not as much as you would think....with divx and mp3 trafficing online, and the fact that more people have on demand content and dvr service with their televisions these days, recordable dvds are already going the way of the videotape.

Right now the movie companies are wrangling over the next generation of digital media....HD-DVD vs. Blue Ray.
