Praire Home Companion is on tv and there are parts of this movie I love, and parts that I hate. It sucks how close it is to being a really good movie. Cut out Lindsey Lohan and the Woman in White and you're there. Tom Waits and Lyle Lovette were supposed to play Dusty and Lefty, can you imagine?

I will also put up: Major League 2- its actually not awful, and with the original cast could've been alot better.

Garden State

and Life Aquatic: both fall victim to really lazy writing and skirt more interesting, more original ideas to lean heavily on character quirks. Ultimately they both eat shit.

Zodiac, the recent one, it's got such great camera work, and downey Jr is great, but just something about it, the pacing, the needless characterization, something, just doesn't fit.

Bullshit on both of you. Zodiac was one of the best movies of 2007, top 5, easy. The Life Aquatic is light years beyond overhyped emo dog poop like Zack Braff's excuse to make out with Natalie Portman and whore his iPod tracklist. Praire Home Companion is fan-fucking-tastic.

YEAH. FIGHT FIERCE.

I find it really eery that Mojo and Lou have almost indentical taste in nearly everything. Zodiac is Lou's favorite movie of 2007 hands down. He really liked PHC as well.

Sorry guys, I was being a bit surly in my first post. I stand by my points, but re-reading it I went beyond just trying to be sassy and amusing and sounded like a dick.

But yeah, I think Zodiac is amazing. There's not a weak performance in it, I think it's paced beautifully...not a second of that film, as long as it is, is wasted. David Fincher is jaw-droppingly good as a director...everything in that film looks incredible. He's the only filmmaker so far that is able to use digital filmmaking and digital effects and use them beautifully and as art and not as an eyesore begging for attention. While I don't think ay of the performances lept out on their own begging for a nomination (just a stellar ensemble working as one), this flick got robbed in at least half a dozen filmmaking Oscar categories...special effects, art direction, set design, editing, direction, cinematography...no film in this past year, to me, looked better. Not even close. It's just a type of classic, dense, cerebral thriller that rarely get made anymore.

Definitely agree on this one. Viggo is amazing throughout, but it fizzles out badly towards the end as an overall film after being so awesome for most of it.

One Hour Photo was just this close to being really good.

how on earth can you call bullshit on someones opinion?
wtf?

zodiac was mired in reality, really, they just made it really true to the story. So it felt more like a history channel production then your typical drama, appeals to some, not to others.

this may seem stupid, but i think the first saw could've been awesome if they'd made better casting decisions. I'm not a horror aficionado, but i thought it was a great idea for a movie.

Lou said you're a good guy Mojo.

I would say Atonement fits this category because the first third of the movie is pretty good: funny, involving. The middle is meandering and melodramatic and the end is an awful, unearned twist. Wasted the goodwill we had towards it.

Yeah I would definately put Life Aquatic above Gardenstate- and if I could only make one of them good I'd choose Life- but they had very similar problems. I came out thinking GS was overrated too, and knew it was because it lets a mainstream audience feel like they're seeing something with alot of cred.

But seriously, you're gonna call out Zack Braff for whoring his iPOD playlist and then mention a Wes Anderson movie in the same breath with absolutely no sense of irony? Hotel Chevalier was an ipod commercial sandwiched around and excuse to get Natalie Portman out of her pants, and part of his bullshit auteurism is instructing us all on his impeccable, luddite fucking taste.

I will watch Praire Home Companion everytime it's on. But I'd so much rather it be about GK's whole 'dont look back in radio' thing. And it's funny to see Lindsey Lohan try and stand next to Jeroline Steele and do all that vocal trill shit like she can actually sing.

I'll submit Perfume:Story of a Murder it had a lot going for it and I was really enjoying myself for most of the movie but at about 30mins to go I couldn't not wait for it to end. And even though the last scene was great I had become so bored by then that I didn't care. A touch of editing would have made that an amazing story.

I totally agree. At the end of the movie it was like "is that it?"

HC was a waste of time, much of it due to the presence of the amazing anti-actor, Natalie Portman. Plenty of filmmakers whore out their music collections...Scorsese and Tarantino must have boners as they pick the music for their films. The better ones, like them and Anderson, don't use their soundtracks as complete crutches like Braff did. His movie ends up basically being the lazist musical of all time.
