Starbucks has decided to start calling its skim milk no sugar low fat version of their drinks a "Skinny" in order to make things easier for people and I am sure to increase marketing awareness and bring more people to their stores.
It seems that an employee (which I am assuming is fat because a non monster should not be offended at the usage of words like this) is angry that they are calling it this. A couple quotes from the letter. The whole thing reads like a fake story from the Onion. If it really is true then I wonder how Starbucks will respond to the pressures of fat groups everywhere saying they are insensitive to their needs. Shut up and got on a diet, I hope, but I doubt they will.
3) It is politically incorrect. Should we start calling drinks with 2% or whole milk and regular syrups "Fat" or "Obese?" Consider what customers on line waiting for their turn to order their drink will think if they hear the drink before them being called out as "Skinny." It leaves the door open for the next person on line to be offended.
5) Aside from customers who do not fit societies standards of "skinny," there are partners that are employed by Starbucks who are "overweight," and it is ridiculous to think otherwise. Imagine going to work for several hours at a time, and hearing the term "skinny" being called out countless times. It will undoubtedly have a negative affect on a person's self-esteem that may already be low from living in a society that is generally not accepting of people who do not fit the mold of a "beautiful" person.
I am not the only employee of this company who holds this opinion. I have yet to come across a single partner in any store who thinks that this is a good idea. There are several policies Starbucks enforces that I do not necessarily agree with, but this is one that I refuse to adhere to, and I will not let this be something that I complain about to coworkers and do nothing about.

A couple of things...
They've been using the term "skinny" like that forever. It's not gonna change.

put the same amount of energy and fire into walking once in a while and then you won't be offended by the term "skinny". Plus if you're working for starbucks, do you really have any self esteem left to destroy?

Oh please. "Fat groups everywhere"? I'm sure 99.9% of fat people could care less about this. You just took a few random quotes and applied them to everyone. Non-story about a non-story.

Build a bridge?
I guess that would help them lose weight. That seems like a very physically intensive job.

Like Mojo said, these drinks have been called Skinny forever. Sorry society has to hold your hand and make you feel better because you cannot keep the donut out of your mouth.

I worked at starbucks for 6 years and I don't think they'd ever actually make this move. They actively discourage using colloqialisms and abbreviations because it works against their TM's and branding (ie a few years ago a new drink calling procedure was put in place because the seeming endorsement of the word 'frap' was endangering the copywrite on 'frappucino')
The term 'skinny' is also completely subjective and would take more explination then just prying a persons drink order from them piece by piece. Is skinny low fat or no fat? Is it sugar free? Does it get whipped cream, or toppings? Are the 'light' brand of drinks skinny? Is creme frappucino skinny? It is made with fat free milk but has more calories than any other drink.
Also, starbucksgossip.com. I'm sure this is a barista posting it, and they didn't really include us in company wide decisions like this. They would have no access to legit info.

We probably should rename "Fat" in nutritional fact tables

Just in case anyone missed it the first time around.
When people talk like "shit like this is going too far" or "PC is out of control," just stop. It's not. It's typically people like Jezo trying to make it a huge issue when it isn't or people like a lot in this thread who don't even bother to read over the article or link posted. These kind of opinions have been around in America FOREVER. Our country is founded on bitching about shit we think is unfair. The difference now is that even the minor stuff that has no pull or any impact gets blown up thanks to the internet and media oversaturation. Please...UNCLENCH.

So this is why a couple years ago, when ordering at a Starbucks in NYC, the barista insisted on telling me that it was not a Frap but a Frappucino. I politely told him to just get the fucking coffee. I wanted to spit in his face, hopefully he didn't spit in my drink!
