depends what you're looking for in a bar. best jukebox is at the sly fox (2nd ave between 8th and 9th). although the one at the library (houston and like 1st or so)is a little more indie and also good. the one at nice guy eddie's (next door to the library) has some good punk.

wait, when did this turn into a post on bar jukeboxes... sorry

Doc Holliday's, Avenue A & 9th Street. $1.75 cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon.

Korova Milk Bar, which is either Ave. A & 11th, or 1st Ave & 11th. Good jukebox, great drink selection.

I like that place alot. Not to mention that on most weekends, there are two really hot women that are bartenders there that don't hold back on the Ketel One when making a drink.

Without a doubt, if your up town, goto Swing 46 between 8th and 9th .

It's a resturant/bar with a swing club in back with free lessons at 9pm. Can't beat that. :)

It's not in Manhattan, but it's a great "punk friendly" bar with a great punk rock juke box in Williamsburgh Brooklyn. The Sweetwater Tavern on North 6th, between Wythe and Berry.

Come on people...

Peculiar Pub on Bleecker Street is one of the best places to drink...Nice big tables for your crew of drunken hooligans...Good music...a great crowd...And around 1000 kinds of beer to drink....
Man! It doesn't get much better than that.

Once in a while, if I'm in the right mood, I like going to International Bar, on 1st Ave. in the East Village. I have no idea why it's "international", but they have Milwaukee's Best! (in cans!!)

I've been to the Peculiar Pub...it was pretty cool. Also some other honarable mentions:
Down the Hatch on West 4th
Slughtered Lamb (across the street from DTH)
Jeckyll and Hyde's

Places to stay away from:
Jeremy's Ale House in the sreaport (Awful...beer out of styrofoam cups)
Bar 9 (9th Ave between 53rd and 54th...90 degrees even in December)
WWF (Times Square....overpriced and hey kick you out too early)

Red Rock West is still the best :)

Also what is up with that McSorley's place?? I went there once and do not see what all the fuss is about...that one guy is like the damn soup nazi form Seinfeld...awful

Red Rock is cool. I like when
I pull up on my bike no matter
how big the line is, I walk
right in. Bikers are treated
like royalty there. Also
Hogs&Heifers uptown when
there's a good band playing.

That's a cool bar too! I do
love the Blind Tiger-- the
best time to go: at 2pm on a
Sunday afternoon during the
summer. It's nearly empty.
Can't beat that! You can
always get a beer when you
want one!

No one goes to Red Rocks for the drinking.
That said,
Jeckyll & Hyde was better when it had 200 beers... and it never was as cool as Jack the Ripper, anyway.
Peculiar is great, McSorley's is fun just for the nostalgia and the silly cheese plate. I love the guys who come in and try to order Bud, or Heiney, or Sam- "Light or dark, pal. Light or dark."

Brother Jimmy's - great for getting f'ed up, and real casual. Fishbowls!
David Copperfield's and dba for beer selection and atmosphere.
also good, Fiddlesticks and Dew Drop Inn on Greenwich, Trinity Pub, Session 73 for music, Spring Street Saloon, and Cronie's cause the kitchen is open until 3.

okay.

to dance on bars and be a fool
I got to Red Rocks, otehrwise
it depends on the neighborhood
I'm in.

I like Puck Faire down on Bway
and houston (or tehreabouts) -
hot irish bartenders & sam
smith can't be beat. my
favorite dave Bar is the
coliseum (off of columbus
circle) - hot irish bartenders
and a dartboard can't be beat :)
I LOVE O'flaherty's (on 46th
an 9th?? across the street
from swing 56) - sweet irish
bartenders and Murphys and
couches and an outside area
can't be beat!

Hmmm sensing a trend? Therewas
a newish irish pub on th upper
west side (around 96th maybe??
on broadway) that I recall
liking too, but maybe it's
cause the owner bought me a
drink... but again, hot irish
bartenders (but some of them
are women)
