Here's the scenario:
Your asshole boss demanded you write this story. It has to end with the marriage to MJ never happening, Aunt May living, Peter being a shlub, Harry being alive, and no one knowing Spidey's identity? You HAVE to write it.

I think the major change I would make is in the deal with Mephisto. Instead of just a piece of their soul remaining, Peter would remember everything. But MJ would remember nothing. Plus, if Peter ever speaks to MJ, she loses her soul.

I think this would make for some interesting stories in the future. Maybe MJ starts dating someone close to Peter, like Harry. He can't speak to her, so that would make for some awkward situations. Plus, MJ finds herself attracted to Peter (they were in love in another life, after all)

Its a bit like the Orpheus in the Underworld myth, but if you're gonna steal, steal from the classics.

I would quit and walk out. Lets erase 20 years of history for the hell of it.

I would have the Beyonder from the First Secret War, state that because Spider Man released Venom onto Earth instead of granting his fondest wish he would instead take away his fondest heart's desire which is his wife but would allow his Aunt to live as a constant reminder of what he lost and make Aunt May begin to be the impetus to driving Spiderman insane to the point where he finally tries to kill Aunt May to make the memory go away only to find the Beyonder has made her immortal

Tell that to Peter David. After writing probably the best Hulk run ever, Marvel told him to bring the "Hulk-smash" Hulk back. He refused and left the book (although he got to write a "final Hulk story" before doing so). I wouldn't erase the MJ/Spidey marriage, and I certainly wouldn't bring Harry back.

Ok, lets say that Quesada is holding your family and shoes captive

exactly its BS. Especially the way they did it. If you kill her and just have time keep going thats one thing. But to basically sit there and go "hey lets go ahead and undo everything." You are basically telling the consumer "hey you know the past 20 years in Marvel Comics? Forget it we are starting over"

You have to remember this doesn't just change spiderman history but crossover history as well.

He better reconsider before I go Keyser Soyze on his ass.

I'll see if I can come up with something.

MJ: "Peter, I can't keep living in this marriage. Knowing you could die at any moment is something I can't handle, and the loss of our child, even though we never talk about her, is something that has been eating at me every day and I can't take it anymore. I want a divorce and I'm moving back to Europe where I was for years before we inexplicably got married in the first place."

Then Aunt May goes senile, making her knowledge of Peter's identity moot...that combined with her injuries makers her someone Peter needs to care for and worry over like in ye olden times, and something that drains up most of his money and increases the stress in his life a zillion fold, making him po' again and having to work a couple jobs, including back at the Bugle.

As for everyone not knowing his identity, well, somehow blaming that on the Skrulls would have been the perfect out in terms of comic-logic. Having him reveal himself was such a fucking dumb move in the first place, especially since the registration was asking them to reveal their identities to the government, not the fucking public.

Harry would stay dead. I loved the character, but he was written out very well and he needs to stay dead, especially with Norman moronically back running around. No Harry. I put my foot down before slamming it into Quesada's taint and then force-feeding him one of Jack Kirby's old cigars.

Too bad we couldn't send this one to marvel a year ago :(

I think I would force Quesada to read the Astro City "Nearness of You" one-shot to see why his idea is almost the anti-opposite of this great story. I recommend to everyone to read that story, but if you don't want to:

A regular guy is having dreams every night of a woman. He dreams of dancing with her, having dinner, making love, all in all, spending time with her. But he doesn't remember her, and his attempts to see if anyone does remember turn up nothing.

Suddenly the Hanged Man, a sort of Spectre type character appears, and explains of this huge "Crisis type" of event where a villain messed with time. The heroes were able to put most of history right, but in some places no. This woman used to exist, and was this man's wife, but no longer exists.

The Hanged Man says that he has gone to every family member of those persons erased by the Crisis and offer them the chance to remove the dreams. The man says no, and then asks if anyone has ever answered differently. The Hanged Man says no. The last thing they show is the man happily dreaming of the love he lost.

After reading that, I can't imagine anyone wanting to tell a story about changing time and erasing relationships.

As a kid, I went outside and played sports. Did that through high school and college as well. However, I'd find time for comics.

Isn't crazy how so many people seemed to miss the basic concept of multitasking?
