Im tired of hearing him order out. Now he's stooped to the lowest level of them all. Cornflakes and Cigarettes.
Lets give this man some ideas on how to make some simple stuff. The majority of this board is men and a lot of them live alone....i mean who's foolin' who right?
How the fuck do you all survive? can you please share some cooking tips with him so we dont have to start a "get well gvac" thread because of clogged fucking arteries.

dice up 2 tomatas place in bowl
heat up 2 cans of fava beans in bean juice
pour 1/2 cup of heated bean juice in with tomatas, drain the rest
pour beans in with tomatas
add salt and pepper to taste
add cumin to taste
add olive oil
add lemon juice
add as much crushed raw garlic as you like
mix it all up and you have a nice tasty dish. beans have protein, tomatas have anti-oxidants
and the raw garlic ain't gonna hurt nobody

peel potatas, boil for an hour and mash them with any tool in the house
pick up a smithfield pork tenderloin already marinated(peppercorn is nice) bake tenderloin for approx 1 hour
wala, good stuff and leftovers for a day or two

by the way, eggs and tuna in the can, go for stuff that requires minimal preparation.
get some mayo, some onions, couple pieces of bread.
invest in some leafy greens and tomatoes, you're golden.
basically if you have eggs, milk, bread, and some sort of canned meat, you can live like a king.
when you hit mid life crisis you can relive the college years and break out the ramen and bong.

Pasta Primavera is easy and versatile.
1-Boil some water with a little salt and a drop of oil. Add pasta and stir a few times
2-Heat some oil in a skillet pan. Add some sliced onion and brown it for a minute. Then add some garlic (crushed stuff in the jar is fine) then add whatever veggies you have around the house. Slice em up and throw it in. Zucchini, Spinich, Tomatos, Broccoli, Green Beans. Whatever. If you're really fucking lazy you can just defrost the frozen shit, but it won't be half as good. Salt and pepper to taste.
By the time the pasta is finished, the veggies are done. Thats the beauty of this dish, everything is ready at the same time. 10 minutes and you eat like a cafone. A little shaved parmesan on top and you might as well be at a caffe in Rome.

Easy Linguine with Clam Sauce
INGREDIENTS
2 (6.5 ounce) cans minced clams, with juice
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
1 tablespoon fresh parsley
ground black pepper to taste
1/4 tablespoon chopped basil
1 package linguini pasta
DIRECTIONS
I think you already know how to make pasta...so start doing that. :tongue:
Meanwhile prepare the sauce. Combine clams with juice, butter or margarine, vegetable oil, minced garlic, parsley, basil, and pepper in a large saucepan. Place over medium heat until boiling. Serve warm over pasta.

Taco salad
Ingredients:
* 1 head lettuce, shredded
* 1 cup chopped onion
* 3/4 cup chopped green pepper
* 4 medium tomatoes, chopped
* 1 cup chopped celery
* 3 cups shredded cheddar or taco blend cheese
* 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
* 1 8-oz. bag taco-flavored tortilla chips, coarsely crushed
* 1 package taco seasoning mix
* 1 8-oz. bottle Russian salad dressing
* 1 8-oz. jar mild taco sauce
Method
Brown ground beef; stir in taco seasoning mix and taco sauce. Let cool. In a large salad bowl combine lettuce, onion, green pepper, tomatoes, and celery. Add ground beef mixture, cheese, and chips. Pour salad dressing over salad and toss to coat.

Baekeoffe (Alsatian Meat Stew)
This savory, richly flavored dish comes from the Alsace region of eastern France, where the cuisine reflects a strong German influence. After marinating, the meats and vegetables cook together slowly in the marinade and emerge filled with flavor.

Ingredients
4 cups thinly sliced onion
1 1/2 cups (1-inch) sliced carrot
1 cup thinly sliced leek (about 1 large)
1 (1-pound) boneless beef shoulder roast, trimmed and cut into 2-inch cubes
1 (3/4-pound) pork blade steak, boned, trimmed, and cut into 2-inch pieces
12 thyme sprigs
10 parsley stems
4 whole cloves
3 bay leaves
2 garlic cloves, halved
1 1/2 cups Riesling or other white wine
1 1/2 teaspoons kosher or sea salt, divided
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 pound small red potatoes, quartered
Cooking spray
Preparation
Combine the first 5 ingredients in a large nonreactive bowl. Place the thyme, parsley, cloves, bay leaves, and garlic on a double layer of cheesecloth to form a bouquet garni. Gather edges of cheesecloth together; tie securely. Add bouquet garni, wine, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and pepper to bowl. Toss well to coat. Refrigerate 8 to 24 hours, stirring occasionally.
Preheat oven to 375°.
Place one-third of the potatoes in a 3-quart casserole coated with cooking spray. Top with half of the meat mixture, and sprinkle with 1/4 teaspoon salt. Repeat the layers with one-third of the potatoes, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and the remaining meat mixture. Top with the remaining potatoes, and sprinkle with 1/2 teaspoon salt. Pour any remaining marinade (including the bouquet garni) over meat mixture. Cover and bake at 375° for 2 1/2 hours. Remove the bouquet garni, and discard.
Wine Note: A dish like this proves that red meats should not be the exclusive territory of red wines. Try a dry and powerful Alsatian Reisling from Domaine Trimbach ($15).

Purdue Oven Stuffer Roaster
Idiot proof. Even comes with its own pop-up timer in the bird.
Just remember to take the giblet bag out before cooking.
Season inside and out with salt, pepper, onion powder. Chop up 2 stalks of celery and put inside (helps to keep it moist).
Take a stick of butter, cut it up and put inside and on top of the bird.
Cook that damn thing and eat for 3 days.
One day with salad, another with potatoes, you get the idea.

It doesn't get much easier or faster than pasta. You can't eat it every night but you can get different kinds of pasta and change it up.
I enjoy it with just pepper and olive oil most times, but use sauce from time to time, of course.
Hell, get a small toaster over for frozen pizzas, English Muffins and tater tots.
Gotta have a way to grill meat, so the Forman thing is nice. Frozen burger patties in the freezer will work for fast meals.
Those are a couple quick things, if he's willing to do more prep we can talk again.

this is GOLDEN advice
I cook regularly now in the slow cooker... just throw a bunch of ingredients in and set the timer. Get a digital one so that it keeps the food warm when the cooking is done. Coming home from work to a hot meal is WONDERFUL.
And one pot cleanup is a huge bonus.

You can't go wrong with one of these. Mine cost around 35 bucks at Target. You can set it to cook for a desired amount of time, or use the thermometer to cook the food to a desired temperature. When it's done, it keeps it warm for up to two hours. Toss some food in it before you go to work, and it's ready when you get home. It will make a substandard cut of beef melt like butter in your mouth.

take a cooking class. it could be fun and you might even meet a dame or two.
cooking's great, but with or without that skill it's about not settling for something like cereal for dinner (and making sure you have the right items on hand). tonight i felt too lazy to cook, so i made a cranberry-walnut-pear-gorgonzola salad. took 3-5 minutes tops (really just the time to chop up the pear and cheese).
i also think there's a thread posting easy recipes, but again i'm feeling lazy.

Place 1 lb. boneless, skinlees chicken breast in a shallow cassarole dish. Sprinkle with garlic powder and oregano.
1 jar of decent sauce.
Top with shredded mozzarella cheese, and cover with foil.
Bake for 45 minutes at 350.
Done.

Chicken milanese.
Take a chicken breast, fileted and butterfiled. Pound it really thin with a meat pounder or rolling pin. Then season with salt and pepper. Press the salt and pepper into the meat.
Coat with flour, dip in egg, and then coat with a mixture of 2cups bread crumbs, 1/2 cup fresh grated parmesan cheese, 2 tablespoons chopped parsley, salt and pepper.
Then take a frying pan, put a tablespoon of Olive Oil, and a tablespoon of butter, heat to medium high/medium, and then cook the chicken until it's brown on each side. Put onto plate with something (paper bag and paper towels) to soak up oil
Then put into an oven (preheated at 350 degrees) for 2 minutes.
Then top the chicken with arugula tossed with extra virgin olive oil.
Basic recipe although more can be added.

brown 12 to 16 oz of sositch in pan. add 14 oz of petite diced tomatoes (prefereably with olive oil and gahhhhhhhlic). stir in 1 bag of frozen peas. heat and stir nicely.
MEANWHILE........ boil some pasta. should boil no more than 14 minutes.
drain pasta. put in bowl. add sositch concockshun to pasta. stir very good.
now, you can eat it now (yum). or let it cool, put it in the fridge and let it sit over nite. (dubba-yum).
make sure you put hot sauce in it as well.
or:
git yourself a crock pot. food takes no more than 10 min to prep. shit cooks on its own all day. do it in the am before work, then come home from work to a meal thats cooked for you.

I use that website too! What I do is look up meatloaf, or stuffed shells, or whatever I want to make, then read the user reviews and ratings to find the best one. Try Rempell Family Meatloaf. That meatloaf is fucking DELICIOUS.

Mostly I watch Iron Chef and Throwdown with Bobby Flay.
The honey BBQ sauce has a little of an asian feel (hoisin sauce, soy sauce are in it), but it's good.

1) Boil water
2) Add pasta (any variety you like)
3) Cook for 8-10 minutes or until al dente
4) Drain pasta
5) Top with sauce (not gravy!), olive oil or butter
6) Add in a salad and you're good to go.

just a quick dish that is easy but tasty.
Make pasta any way you like.
1 can of Cannelini beans, drained and rinsed.
1 or 2 tomatoes.
Dice up the tomatoes.
mix all three ingredients together season with whatever you want. I use basil and thyme.
or if you want them hot and warm; heat up some oil in a skillet, and toss the tomatoes and beans in there.
Its a quick and simple meal.
I dont think anyone has asked if GVAC actually owns pots and pans.

I lived on these things for a couple of years. Parmesan is the best, the others are hit-and-miss. Requires milk, butter, and a pot. Basically equalls one meal, and the pouch costs about a buck.
I love the Brocolli chedder ones now !!

My favorite side dish, super easy, feels fancy, really healthy.
Big pan, heat some olive oil, throw in spoonful minced garlic, don't burn it.
Throw in two good handfulls of baby spinach, sprinkle of kosher salt, cook till it's a little soft but not mush. Fuckin fantastic.
For a main course, I'll take a piece of meat and treat like every piece of meat put in front of me. BBD style.
Smack it up, flip it, and rub it down.

Really easy and really good stir fry:
1. Start making some white rice (follow the instructions on the rice package - boil water in a medium pot, add rice, simmer for about 30 min).
2. Grab a skillet, heat it up with some oil, toss in some cut up chicken breasts (you can even buy them precut stir fry sized). Once the chicken is browned, toss in some veggies (you can even get a can of mixed stir fry vegetables, ready to heat & eat) in a bunch of teryiaki sauce (if you want it spicy, add in some red curry paste or hot peppers).
3. Lower the heat on the skillet and cover it until the rice is done.
You're done. Make a bed of rice and throw that stir fry right on top.

Plus, you mess up their kitchen (not yours) and leave with a month's worth of meals. (Have them split the containers.) Not a bad idea if you can't cook.

And even though I have a dishwasher, I detest making a mess in the kitchen with pots and pans. It just seems like so much work.
I also have the taste buds of a four year old. I can't tell you how many people have told me "Oh, but you've never had my _____"
You can fill in that blank with broccoli, asparagus, spinach, etc. It doesn't matter. I don't care if you cover them in chocolate and deep fry 'em. I despise the taste of leafy greens. I find it impossible to believe someone actually likes them. I'm more apt to believe you if you told me "I love the taste of cat shit." It's that awful to my taste buds.
I like meat. I'll eat salad, preferably with grilled chicken. I like white rice and potatoes - plain. I don't like sour cream, butter, mayonnaise, etc. I like to eat simply and blandly.
And as I stated, I don't like making a mess of the kitchen. I figure if I never mess it up, I'll never have to clean.
The family sized George Foreman grill I received for Christmas 2 years ago is still in the box up in my attic. Why? I hate clutter and didn't want it taking up counter space.
