I used to like watching the auditions for the trainwrecks until I read just how fake this shit is.
When you see these people, this isn't the first time they've auditioned. It's actually like the 3rd time. I read they first send in an audition tape, then they are asked to audition for this Simon Fuller guy, and then after that you see them on TV. So they put through these no talent idiots on purpose simply for ratings. Just completely turned me off to the whole thing.

I think this is the make-or-break year for this show.
To be honest, I'm shocked that the backlash hasn't already begun but, last years ratings were higher than ever so.... what do I know?
I watched the first season. I started to watch season 2 but, it really did feel like I was watching repeats. I almost can't believe that anyone would wanna sit through the exact same comments on (some of) the exact same songs over and over again.
When the show eventually goes into its last year, I think they should open the flood gates and let ANYONE audition. No age limit. There's a lot of great singers out there who are over the age of 24 and... they might bring an interesting dynamic to the show.
I'd watch that.

its the 7th season of this show. any show that makes it 7 seasons can consider itself a success, i dont think this year makes or breaks anything for American Idol.
I love watching the first few weeks, but when it actually gets to Hollywood I stop watching.

Totally.
I kinda meant that, at some point, the public will have their fill. It's bona fide hit. The ratings are historic.
I was stating only that almost EVERY show jumps the shark. I don't think Idol is immune.

She is so HOTTT. I did a search for her and she her name came up as being signed by BMI under Britney Spears label back in 2001 when she was 17. Something tells me when they get to Hollywood she will be missing because she was signed before or this will become and issue. From my understanding you have to be considered an amateur. Kelly Clarkson almost got kicked off because they thought she had a deal. But right before the auditions she walked away from signing a deal with a record company so technically she never had a contract.
I hope not because I want to see more of her!

So far, the only one I like the Katie the cage fighter. She's really got some talent. From the look, to the hobbies, to the voice, she is the total package. America will love her cause she's a country girl who knows self defense. Plus, is she damn hot.
Everyone else on the show is a bore. From the guy who lost all the weight, to the one whose never seen a rated R movie, to that bar singer, no one is even the closest bit interesting. I really like Simon more and more. He really just gives it like it is and never gives anyone false hope and sees through the bullshit.
Hopefully tomorrow provides better people.

David Cook closed the show with (I believe) Chris Cornell's rendition of Billy Jean and it was one of the better live performances I think I've ever seen. I was blown away by American Idol.

Best of the night. Never knew he copped it from Chris Cornell though. Bummer. The chick that sang "Pround To Be An American" wins for the best strategic move of the night. If she sticks to only patriotic songs, she's a shoe in. What a cheap move.

tonight michael johns did a great job doing a queen song.
i dont understand the over hype of david archuletta. he is talented and has a great deep voice. but every week they praise him. even if he doesnt do a good job. it almost seems fixed for him this year.

Yeah, and Simon mentioned the same thing. The only reason she has stuck around is because she's reaching the middle America audience, and now she's singing patriotic songs. There's no way she gets voted off.

edit: wow surprised carly is in there instead of brooke, but if i had to pick a third like usual it would have been carly, will be interesting to see who goes out of these two. hopefully jason.

Then maybe American Idol is becoming like MLB, and no black people are participating (in the voting, at least). Syesha is a much better singer than all but maybe 2 of them, and she keeps ending up in the bottom 2. The black guy that was on had great weeks, yet would be in the bottom two (he got voted off on like his best week).
And Latoya London (maybe that's her name) and the black chick from season 1 (she was on the show tonight - forgot her name) both got voted off waaaaaay too early.

if you want to go by color voting for their own color then a black person would never win. there are more then double whites than blacks in america. the fact is its a popularity contest. it also doesnt hurt that vote for the worst had kristi lee and now has syesha. syesha isnt that great, shes beautiful and has a solid voice but out of the 6 that were left she had the worst voice imo.

the final two should be david cook and syesha, fuckin' jason had a chance to break out of his boring shell with "forever in blue jeans", that song should have a little swagger, if he amped it up and nailed it the crowd would have flipped out because he is always such a dead fish up there (he is decent, just too predictable and mellow), but of course he didnt have it in him.
i havent seen the second songs and elimination show yet, going to watch them now if i dont get too many work calls.
david archuleta is the same as jason imo, he can only sing "one way" and it just gets old to me. he will probably make the final tho.
jason or brooke gets sent home for sure i think, whichever one of them makes it thru goes home next week. brooke can be really good but she just hasnt performed the last few weeks.
edit - jason's second song sucked, cook's second song creeped into his "too cool for the room" pompous appearance too many times but it was good and original, brooke was much better in the second song and should definitely get by this week, jesus every time i see archulets all i can think is "disney channel show" and not just because of his age, great voice no doubt but he just bores me to tears, syesha's second song was the best of the night for me, she is a natural performer (only one of the bunch imo).
edit 2 - gtfo @ syesha being worse than jason, just stop it. poor brooke, she almost got me crying lol.

Ok. I'm coming clean. I'm actually watching again this season. I really wasn't going to, and I skipped all of the auditions, but I never turned off my TiVo season pass from last season. One day my wife and I were looking for something we both wanted to watch and we settled on Idol. Since then, I've been a regular viewer.
Anyway, here's what brought me out of hiding -- Last night the theme was the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and David Cook decides to do Duran Duran's "Hungry Like the Wolf". How the hell does that fall into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame theme? I know the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is kind of a sham, but last time I checked, Duran Duran hadn't been inducted. What gives?
Also, I would guess that Jason Castro is going home tonight. He really shit the bed with his song choices. I know a lot of people hate him, but even though he had no chance of winning, at some point I started rooting for the goofy bastard. He's like the new Sanjaya. That's some potent mixture of awkward, retarded and stoned he's working there. His dreads are pretty skeevy though.
Archuletta is boring as hell.

i have heard that duran duran is likely to be inducted in the next few years, and i believe that the show gives the contestants the list of songs they can choose from (at least thats how it used to work).
im watching the show now, he did a decent version of 'hungry like the wolf' i guess, nothing spectacular.
edit - syesha is gonna be a star somewhere man, that wasnt the most original version ever but she is just a natural performer. i didnt think it sounded shrieky like simon said, but i understand his calling it "copycat".
holy shit, jason doing bob marley was unlistenable, just terrible. i dont like him at all (as a singer) but i started to feel bad for him, eek.

cook's arrangement was disappointing at the end on teenage wasteland, but it was pretty good. he hit the big "they're all wasted" line and then paused, then a goofy fizzling out ending, should have ended it big imo.
syesha sounded good but awkward, i dont usually agree with randy but i agreed with him there, bad song choice and it seemed like she forced some of the big notes in there. but holy rack! nice dress hehe.

You know, you REALLY have to adjust the recording time to a couple of more minutes extra after any show is supposed finish.
I never have faith on any show or whatever that I record will end at the end of an hour.
That happened to me early on when I first got my DVR. Never again will I let that happen.
