Unless they are coming out with an iTouch with a really big hard drive, I don't care.
There are rumors of an ultra-portable laptop using flash memory.
That doesn't interest you?
Or a 3G iPhone?
Apple fan boys unite!

I always read the live updates on Engadget

Right now the press is just being let in. Steve's speeches usually begin at 1 EST.
I'm excited... I'm a big Apple Fanboy but also love new tech even though I can't afford anything.

Love the laptop, even tho it has no detachable battery. Moreover, the iPhone firmware looks cool. However, I will not get an iPhone until it has 3G and GPS.
Good news on the movie rentals tho.

My understanding is that the feature you are speaking about is using the trangulation (sp?) of the three cell phone towers you are in contact with to get an approximate location. What I meant by GPS is a software app like Telenav (I have this on my Sprint Sanyo M1 now).
3G internet is still the big thing tho. I can't stand standard EDGE internet. Got too used to Sprint's high speed stuff.
I think the reason they didn't announce a 3G iPhone is because AT&T doesn't have it up and running yet.
I wonder when AT&T's exclusive rights to the phone run out.

I like the idea of the Air, but I'm withholding my final opinion till I get to play with one in the apple store.

In redefining thin, MacBook Air has shed something you no longer need: the optical drive. That’s because MacBook Air is built for the wireless world. So instead of watching DVDs, you can rent movies wirelessly from the iTunes Store.
That really just pisses me off. The solution is to spend more money renting the movies you already own?
And I know that they have "remote disk" and the external DVD drive as well. It's just the way they present that as the solution. The MacBook Air is impressive but not right for everyone. I am very interested in the solid-state drive option (An extra $1000 buys you a flash based hard drive with 16 less GB!) I hope this become more common in laptops sooner than later!

It is. Some laptops that shipped with 2.5" HDs are now being revised with, or offering optional, 1.8" SSDs. Since media players use these too, the prices will drop faster than Blu-ray.

Just getting to this 3 months later?
The point isn't to download movies you already own, it's a rental option. you don't need to go to the store to rent it or wait for netflix, you can just download it.

I don't think so. If that is what their point was, they would say "So instead of renting DVDs, you can rent movies wirelessly from the iTunes Store" They are saying you don't need an optical drive, not "don't drive to blockbuster" They make a lot of money from iTunes, they want to keep it going.
And I was pissed off 3 months ago but didn't post about it, I just was looking over their site again today (after reading rumors of major Mac Book redesigns coming soon) and got pissed off all over again. Overall I think the MBAir is a great device and I am impressed with Apple's designs, I just want to smack some of the those people sometimes.

Actually, if you listened to the actual keynote, this is exactly what he said. He then followed this by saying not only can you rent them, you can rent them in HD directly from an Apple TV onto your tv or you can rent them onto your computer.

Ah, That makes sense. I did not watch to keynote, but maybe the Apple web site guy(s) didn't either. They could have just added "in HD" and I probably wouldn't have reacted like I did
I am actually in the market for an Apple notebook and leaning toward a MacBook Pro so I was checking out the sales area of apple.com. The wording on the Airbook page makes me think of a guy with a stack of DVDs and his new Airbook, not knowing what to do. I know that a lot of people are wanting to get away from optical dscs and media that you can actually hold, which makes me think an article I read about the long term issues involved with digital storage.
I think I'll check out the Keynote you mentioned (if it's still up) I haven't watched any since the iPhone introduction. Steve Jobs saying "Isn't this cool" or "Isn't this awesome" over and over made me want to puke. Let the iPhone speak for itself, we can see it's awesome.

The appeal of the Air isn't the common user and isn't marketed towards them. The real appeal is to the business user who has to carry their laptop everywhere when traveling. In which case, it makes sense because their intent is predominantly to word process, create presentations, check email, etc., not to watch movies and play cds.

the air seems really flimsy to me. it looks like it would crumble if i dropped it. i got the macbook pro & i like it a lot. i'm pretty sure im not even using near half of its potential though. i'm a big traveler & probably when & if i get a new job i'm going to be living in hotels a lot again, but the air is just too small for me. & i dont like that the optical drive is separate.
i am very interested in time machine though.
