The sister of one of my former girlfriends (whio is also from Iowa Cleophus - Sigourney) is a nurse and she told my former girlfriend that they see a lot of injuries in the ER caused by seat belts. Apparently the way most seat belts cut across the chest they tend to bruise the breastbone when you get in a high speed accident. She suggested wearing the shoulder belt under the arm instead of over the shoulder.

My grandmother was in a serious accident in 1991. The belt caused some SERIOUS f'ing bruises on her chest and collar.

It also prevented her face from going through the windshield so, I'm gonna go ahead and put seatbelts in the plus column. The bruises definitely were nasty though.
