OK, so I am a fat ass. I have known this for several years now, but have finally decided to fix it. My, my boss, and another co-worker (all of us 280+) decided to join weight watchers together. Our second weigh in was tonight. I was late, and the other two had already got their results. I ate well all week, never consumed all my points on a single day, and even joined a gym.

I lost 3.2 lbs. The other two both lost 12.5 EACH. I fucking suck. It's pretty depressing to spend all the money, time and effort on this thing for 3 fucking pounds. 3 pounds would have been one thing if the other two hadn't topped me four fold.

Any thoughts?

Ryno -

I wouldn't be too worried about weigh ins at this point. Realistically you are making changes that are way bigger than a couple of pounds. You are changing your diet for the better and you are changing your activity level for the better.

These two changes will provide you long-term results that will last for a lifetime if you can stick to them.

Stick with it man, you are doing the right things.

your coworks are just losing all the water weight.

If they lost that much in a week it was mostly water. 3 pounds in a week is good. It sounds to me like your off to a very good start.

I'm pretty sure you're supposed to eat all your points. You might be undereating.

Were those two a lot heavier then you?

Are you drinking enough water? You've got to flush yourself, and in the beginning you'll be losing more water weight than anything else. You've got to keep yourself hydrated.

The good thing is, your weight went down! That's the right direction.

If you can swim, that's a fantastic low impact way to burn the calories.

Thanks for the support buddays.....

1) we were all within 10 pounds of each other (pretty close when your talking almost 300)

2) I know I should eat all my points, but I haven't been hungry. I am going to be more aggressive this week with hitting my proper targets.

3) Water. I piss like 300 times a day. I think the carpet between my office and the an is worn out.

And the best part of it all is, we all work in a meat plant. We make ham, sausage, hot dogs, bacon, you name it. Try hanging out in THAT environment for 60 hours a week and not plumping up!

I have faith, I just felt a little deflated after our weigh in tonight. I am targeting 225 by the end of the year. Thats like 1.5 pounds a week. I know I can do it, I just need the will power to do this for 52 weeks straight. Doesn't help to have a pregnant wife and two kids running around that are not looking to loose any weight.

Topless Mike - you are my hero bud. Hanging it all out there for everyone to see, hat takes balls. And your progress has been awesome. Keep it up, maybe I will make it to your level one day!

DOn't worry about not eating all the points now. Once you start a routine at the gym you'll find yourself more hungry and then will be able to utilize the extra points you aren't using now.

Nicely done on taking the right steps to lose weight and i hope everything stays on track and you reach your target weight!

Seriously, losing weight of any amount is positive. Just stay with your diet, drink at least 80 oz of water a day and add some sort of cardio in your life.

Little tip: Water speeds up your matabolism

Next time you're in the supermarket go over to the meat dept. and grab a pound of ground beef. Then another. Then another. Stack them on top of each other. Hold them. Look at them. Really look. Now, instead of meat, imagine that much yellow adipose fat tissue, around your heart, around your organs... that much is no longer part of you. It's gone.

Imagine having to carry those three packs all day long; everywhere. No more.

I say: Three pounds, well done !!!

don't get fixated on the numbers, there are any number of reasons you could have weighed whatever that day. The point is that you can not realistically lose more than 1-3 pounds of FAT during any given week unless you kill yourself working out. So losing 12 POUNDS does not equal losing fat, most of the first weeks loss is just water weight and flushing out of your system. That's how athletes, especially boxers who have to make weight, get it done. They completely dehydrate themselves, most of these guys kill themselves to "lose" 10 pounds overnight and then after the weigh in when they rehydrate, the can put on as much as 20 pounds in many cases in less than 24 hours, obviously they did not gain 20 pounds or lose the 10, its just hydration.

Don't get overly fixated and the whole point is that you LOST weight, I started out losing a ton of weight at first but then settled in and at times would be pissed that I lost only a pound in a week. Especially after spending 5 days at the gym and eating well but realized I was losing inches off everywhere basically (except my cock thankfully).

There will be weeks where you may have even gained a pound but lost an inch off your waist, keep measurements as well as tracking weight. Main thing is a pound not gain but lost is always worth it.

how much time had gone by between weigh ins?
you said you joined a gym, but never mentioned working out at the gym..........so did you work out? i'm sure the other two guys were.

the key to losing weight isn't simply eating less, its eating less and being more active, combined. they probably lost 12 doing both, you lost 3 doing one.

just get more active on a routine basis and you'll see the weight melt away.

GonzoStyle

yea depriving yourself or doing anything drastic, like cutting out complete food groups never works. You may lose temporary weight but its all smoke a mirrors and never lasts. You get people who completely stop eating carbs or whatever and end up with vitamin deficiences and when their toenails turn brown they can't figure out why.

be patient, you dont get fat overnight and you wont get back in shape overnight. Plus it always takes much longer to lose weight than gain it.

take it all one pound at a time, dont think big picture, one puzzle piece at a time.

I joined the gym, but have only been a couple of times so far.

I'm looking forward to next week. Eating great, and working out, about 45-60 minutes of cardio 3 -4 times a week.

As an off, then on-again, WW (&former lifetime member), I can say some weeks you are going to do all the right things and its just not going to seem to hardly make a difference that week. However, it will usually catch up the next week or two. Count EVERYTHING, get your H2O and fiber, fiber, fiber man ! It's one of your best friends. Don't forget to get 2x dairy, it will help. Once you get on this plan a few weeks your metabolism will even out and it will work for you. Slow and steady wins the race here, not short term fixes. You can do it and you will feel better and happier with yourself every week. Don't benchmark yourself against your buddys at work too much because everyone's metabolism is a little different. You can do it ! You will have a week of great numbers if you keep it up real soon.

I agree - developing the capacity for determination and consistency with this thing is easily the most important and arguably the most difficult part. Once you've decided what your habits are going to be - get used to them because a good rule of thumb is if you want to maintain a certain weight you're going to be doing these things forever. You've really cut a good groove and made a start after 90 days of consistenly doing it though and don't rule out anything. If you need therapy, 12 steps, support, weight watchers, diet information etc etc etc ... look into it. Hit the problem with as many things as possible. The minute you say - "I'll never try that" is the point at which you allow the possiblity of failure. If it doesn't work, move on. Don't quit though - get used to your new life and accept the ups and downs of it. There are ups and downs with any lifestyle you choose - they're just different, but the ups and downs of a healthier life are by definition healthier.

This is just my asshole opinion though and I thank you for the opportunity to express it.

Yes, be patient and keep doing what you're doing. It's going to take time, and you'll have a lot more success if you really understand that. You'll plateau at some point in the future too, and you'll have to be determined and willing to see it through.

That's like my dad's "Fat Box."

Dad has always struggled with his weight. Due to some medical issues with his feet & ankles as a baby and small child, he wasn't very active when he was growing up. He never took PE and had trouble just walking. He's pretty much tried every "diet" out there, from weird fad ones to Weight Watchers.

The most positive motivator he found a few years ago was to create a "Fat Box" which became a concrete representation of how much weight he'd lost that week. He got a milk crate and started putting the equivalent weight he'd lost in non-perishables into the crate. When he'd reached his goal, he intended on donating the non perishables to our local food bank.

I think that having a concrete illustration of what you've accomplished is REALLY important, so if you want to take my dad's "Fat Box" idea for yourself, please do. Not only do you get to improve yourself, but you'll also help others if you choose to go the food bank route. (Food banks are experiencing shortages of staples right now, so consider donating to your local food bank anyway.)

I was at Duke U. and the head of the big diet center there showed me a rubber model of five pounds of human fat.

The thing was huge.

As if I could match anything Topless Mike says, I'll just say my big weight loss was exactly what he said; looking back I lost a pound a week for three years.

If I had heard 'a pound a week' at the beginning I'd be 'Screw that I need better then that' but you hit plateaus, maddeningly frustrating plateaus, where you lose nothing or little, and then some times, the scale really surprises you, in a good way for once.

No, I'm in Canada and I work at Maple Leaf Foods. As for the grill, sadly those of us that work there dont need no stinking grill to get our freak on - eating a 500g pack of bologna or a couple of cheese smokies a around 7:30 or 8am is not big thing. There are times when you walk into someones office and they might have a 1g bag of dry pepperoni sticks sitting there like they were mints. And no one bats an eye, they just grab one and dig in.

The bastards (my other, less fat co-workers) today brought a big massive plate of cheese smokies and kolbassa to our management meeting and kept passing it around in front of me. I almost had to run out screaming to avoid having some. I'm usually good for a half plate by myself.

Thanks fo the support buddays, I will post the next weight in on Monday.

Weighed in tonight, lost 11 lbs last week. Down to 275, only 0 more to go before summer!!!

Sure feels better to get that big number - worked my ass off (somewhat literally I assume) to get it. Hope I can maintain a steady loss, although I know it will be a smaller and smaller loss as I go along. I am hoping to average between 2 and 3 lbs per week for the next 10 weeks or so.

Course my clothes are already getting loose, so it looks like some shopping is in order...........

Thanks to all the buddays out there that offered their support.

Never heard of a cheese smokey??? What kind of crazy world are you living in??? The next thing your going to tell me is you dont have publicly funded universal health care where you are from!!!

Crazy.

A cheese smokey is a smoked sausage (generally pork, occasionally beef) stuffed with cheese inside. So once you BBQ it you have a scrumptious, melty cheese and sausage combo.

Damn, I'm making myself hungry......
