I got tricked into trying some hot sauce last night that almost killed me. Dave's Insanity was the name and I had a teaspoon of it. I later spent 30 minutes with my head under water and my mouth open to help kill the pain.

QFT This is the hottest sauce that I have ever tried and I have not found one that even comes close to rivaling it.

I stopped giving this to people in fear that I would have to take them to the hospital.

i've heard from many people that dave's is indeed crazy. i don't get it tho, except as a practical joke. what about "best hot sauce you have tried?" i know a lot of folks would go with tiger sauce (never had it, myself) but i would go with huy fong's sriracha hot chili sauce.

There are certainly hotter ones out there than Dave's Insanity Sauce. Tried a drop, it was painful, I'll stick to Tabasco or Crystal Hot Sauce.

Sriracha is good stuff, very versatile. Tuong Ot Toi (I think) is also good, kinda like less-blended garlicky sriracha.

True. I have yet to find a purpose for the bottle that I have. I dipped a toothpick in this shit and floated it in a batch of chili and I could tolerate it, but it was ruined for the chic and kids.
Best hot sauce for me is

There is this place in Boston. They make you sign a paper saying they are not responsible if you die from tasting this hot sauce. All they do it put the tip of a tooth pick in the sauce and you almost die.

Water makes Hot sauce worse in the sense that it'll burn more. You should try milk, or better yet, Sour cream or yogurt.

Dave's Insanity Sauce is pretty awful. It just isn't edible. If I have a large enough dose, not only am I in pain, but my body goes immediately starts involuntarily hiccuping. The problem is that people know I love different hot sauces, so I've gotten bottles of Dave's as gifts 4 or 5 times. Usually they'll stay unopened until someone wants to try it. Then I'll open it, they'll be in physical pain, and I'll throw it in the fridge when it really makes more sense to throw it away. Twice I've had bottles of the stuff where the cap has cracked and the bottle has gotten knocked on it's side and dripped all over the contents of the refrigerator. That's always a fun cleanup.

I've tried many of the toothpick hot sauces, and have never understood the thrill of it. I need to have more flavor. My current favorite is Cholula. That stuff is good on just about anything.

There's a restaurant in Des Moines, IA called Big Daddy's BBQ (http://www.bigdaddysbbq.net/sauces.html) (I think his family still runs it). I had a friend buy me a jar of Emergency Room (http://www.bigdaddysbbq.net/thermometer.gif). I wasn't stupid enough to assume I could eat it on a sammich, so I bought some KC Masterpiece and put about the tip of a steak knife into the Emergency Room about a 1/4 of an inch, then put it in the KC to "liven it up." After I did that, I noticed that I had very small drop of sauce on my hand, and without thinking, licked it off. Like he said, it was extremely hot. I was sweating and nothing helped for more than a second or two. I tried cold water and milk. Both suck. I finally called the friend that bought it for me for help. He told me to get a cup of water as hot as you can get it and drink, gargle. The hot water relaxes your tastebuds and allows the water to rinse away the capsaicin (I think that's what it's called). It took a time or two and it was only mildly hot. Very bearable.
Sorry for the long version.

I'll never understand why people eat this stuff. I tried habernero sauces a few times, my mouth exploded, I could barely breathe and so I decided to take the hint. Food should be an enjoyable experience. If its painful, I get the notion that I'm doing something wrong. Call me crazy.

Yer' Crazy!
You're right. The best BBQ on the list of BBQ's in my first post is the House Hot. It was hotter than most of the "HOT" stuff you can buy at the store, but still where most people could eat it, and very tasty. The ER sauce just smells hot.
I forgot that Big Daddy's used to have contests. I think that since he died a few years ago, they no longer offer them. Check them out here, and look at the rules. (http://web.archive.org/web/20020402170344/www.bigdaddysbbq.net/contests.html) Do you think they would stand in the "Wee for a Wii" climate, or is that just radio?

Cholula is one of my faves too. They have it at the "fixin's bar" at quiznos near me. I had only seen it in my kitchen and at my favorite mexican place before that. El Yucateco's not bad either...a little bit hotter though.

I try Da Bomb hot sauce. It is so hot that after a while, I touched the bottle and closed the cap, then rubbed my eyes. My eyes started to burn! Ouch. This explosion annihilate your taste buds! It may be too hot to eat, even on a toothpick!

Pure Cap was my first trip into the world of hot oil extracts, it is 500,000 on the Scoville Scale (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scoville). In comparison Tobasco measures 2,500-5,000. Pure Cap came in a medicine bottle with a dropper and I had to sign a waiver in order to buy it saying I wouldn't sue if I hurt myself with it.
Recently I found Blair's 2 AM for sale and picked up a bottle.
http://www.78west.com/board_images/Blairs_2AM_New.jpg
That one is somewhere near 600,000 on the scale.
None of this stuff can be used as a sauce. A single drop is enough to bring you to tears. They are used as additives to large dishes that you want extreme heat in. They are nuts. For every day use I use Dave's Roasted Garlic Hot Sauce.
http://www.78west.com/board_images/garlic.jpg
It's way too brutal for most people but it adds an awesome garlic heat to everything from hot dogs to egg sandwiches.

This stuff will kill you.About two drops in a pot of chili will make it damn near inedible.
I love hot stuff but I love flavor more. For everyday use I prefer Crystal Hot Sauce.Straight from Louisianna where all good sauces are made.It is hot but not overpowering. It also enhances rather than masks the flavor of whatever you put it in.

I've had Crystal before. It's definitely hot and if you get too much of it it can be bad but it does have a good flavor if distributed right.
