First to summit Mt. Everest, Sir Hillary is dead at 88 (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/10/world/asia/11cnd-hillary.html?hp)
A childhood hero of mine, and foolish me I thought he was dead long ago.

Did he die attempting to build a bridge between the two peaks of Everest?

What he did was truly amazing.
Although I did read his autobiography, and I never read someone who came across more as such a pompous ass.
