I think one of those kids sitting on the curb is Al Sharpton.

Charles Mingus with the stogy, Bud Powell, and Sonny Rollins. Can't really make anyone else out and I don't recognize any of the whiteys.
Cool pic never saw that before. Wish there was a higher resolution one, kinda hard to make out all their faces.

this pic would be awesome if it was enlarged correctly (not uber-grainy).
framed, and on a wall, this would soooooo rock.

The original album jacket for the LP included die-cut windows on the building shown on the cover. As the inner sleeves for the discs were inserted in different orientations, various objects and people would appear in the windows, including photos of the band members in drag. The two buildings photographed for the album cover are located at 96 and 98 St. Mark's Place in New York City. These are the same buildings Keith Richards and Mick Jagger are in front of in the Rolling Stones music video "Waiting on a Friend". (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical_Graffiti)

Agreed. I've never seen this photo before, but I'd love to get a high quality print framed.
Same with this photo:

Do you know where he got it or what its name "officially" is?

He bought it in New Orleans, but it's available online all over the place. This is the version he has. (http://www.amazon.com/Jazz-Portrait-African-American-Culture/dp/B000ACND7A)

That's the name... A Great Day In Harlem. I'm suprised you never saw it - it's a very famous photograph.

If I recall the story correctly... it was put together spontaneously, with only a few in the picture first, but the word spread and because everyone lived in and around the neighborhood, it just turned into this one time event.

Thanks for the help, guys...maybe you can help me find a nice, large B&W print of that other photo I posted, "the Million Dollar Quartet" of Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Elvis and Johnny Cash. All of the prints I've found are small or have crappy colorizing done. Anyone know where I can find a good print?

True. This photo was taken around 10 a.m. these cats hadn't seen 10 a.m. since they were ten years old. Most were still buzzed from the night before !

In 1998, Gordon Parks re-created that picture with Hip Hop artists in front of the same building. It was made available in XXL magazine.

There has been a teeny decline in the condition of that building.
