Is anyone else embarrassed when they see commercials for any one of these "ghost" shows? Hunting ghosts... paranormal clues... night vision... "Something is in here!", "What was that!?" sound bites.
There are a number of networks airing them. I'm even more embarrassed that people are watching, buying into this crap.
They're making money off of people's superstitions.
What do you think...

Believable as in it is edited with f/x and sounds to make the viewer think there is something going on.

Yes close. I have seen the other shows, and they go way over the top. Ghost hunter just a little over the top, but still clearing it.

I believe creepy. I've been in creepy places. I've read LordJezo's posts. But actual ghosts? C'MAAAHN. It's insulting.

Bump!
I can think of two reasons why I watched this when I was in Doha.

I grew up in a real haunted house - it does happen. Consider yourself lucky if you have never had the experience of being so terrified that you are afraid to move a muscle while laying in bed - night after night. Ghost Hunters is fun TV - regardless if it is real.

There is nothing decent about any of them. Carnies and Rubes.

Have you ever seen Ghost Hunters?
It's completely different from any other "ghost" reality show.

I have trouble believing the para-normal. The absolute worst are the people who claim they were raped by ghosts.

"Haunted People" Potentially Explained: A Mind-Body Basis for Anomalous Perceptions (http://www.scienceblog.com/cms/blog/8375-haunted-people-potentially-explained-mind-body-basis-anomalous-perceptions-26531.html)
People seeing ghosts? There may be a genuine mind-body foundation for such anomalous perceptions:
As surveys consistently show that anywhere from one-third to two-thirds of the public say they’ve had an extra-sensory experience – with nearly 25% of respondents stating they’ve actually seen or felt a ghost – anomalous perceptions are nothing to shrug off. “People have had these experiences down the ages and across all cultures,” comments Micozzi, a physician and anthropologist. “They’re quite universal. What we’ve begun to document is that there’s a certain type of person most likely to experience them.”
That person is environmentally sensitive, according to Jawer, an expert on the condition known as Sick Building Syndrome. “Our data show that anomalous perceptions parallel other forms of environmental sensitivity, such as having pronounced or longstanding allergies, migraine headache, chronic fatigue, chronic pain, irritable bowel, even synesthesia (overlapping senses) and heightened sensitivity to light, sound, touch, and smell. Women make up three-quarters of this sensitive population but there are other markers as well: being ambidextrous, for instance, or recalling a traumatic childhood. The more we look at the people who say they’re psychic, or who have recurring anomalous experience, the more it seems there’s a mix of nature and nurture that predisposes them.”

I watched Haunted Collector on Syfy tonight because a local place was on it, and something they did really confused me. A little background... The place was Historic Jordan Springs. Haunted or not, the place has a very interesting history. A heeling spring was first started there by Indians in the 1500's. The building has been a Civil War hospital, a monastery, resort, and other things.
About a year ago, the new owner was devastated when vandals knocked over a statue of Jesus, and stole his head (http://www.winchesterstar.com/articles/printable/383204). There had been several other vandalism events in the area mostly involving the desecration of very very old graves.
Here's what confused me. They discussed the statue vandalism in the show. They even showed the headless statue. But at no point did they ever say that the statue was Jesus. Don't you think that's something worth mentioning? The only thing I can figure is, the producers were afraid they'd piss off conservative Christians, if they mentioned Jesus in an "evil" ghost show.

I had my grandmother and Grandfather run out of my house growing up in the middle of the night.
They were asleep and my grandmother woke up hearing what she described as a lamb crying over in the corner of the room. She woke my Grandfather up and he turned the light on, checked the room and didn't find anything. So they went back to sleep and she wrote it off on probably dreaming but being awake. Later, she woke up as the sheet was being pulled off of the bed and screamed. Granddad jumped awake and as he was walking over to the wall light switch (again) he heard the "lamb" crying over in the corner. He said that nothing was in the room but the sheet they had been using was balled up in the corner.
They got the hell out of there while leaving the rest of us asleep. We had told them about many haunted times in that house but they had to experience it first hand to believe it.
Both were ultra religious but it scared them pretty bad.
