I have grown a number of forms of facial hair over the years, but have never kept any of them for any serious length of time -- sideburns, full beard, goatee, the "Jersey Rich". I even shaved a beard down to a mustache for one day and it was hideous on me so I refused to leave the house with it (there are pictures somewhere though). Currently, I am sporting a beard similar to the one I had at the Christmas party (which I shaved the day after the party). So here are the questions -- what facial hair do you have? What forms of facial hair have you had? What kinds of facial hair can you and can't you grow? For the ladies -- what kind of facial hair do you like on a man (or is that like asking "How fat do you like us?")

Had a goatee in college. Shaved it to get a job.
I do want to try out something again though. Thinking maybe a full beard.
The problem is I get tired of it before it takes shape.

If I go a day or two without shaving I'm sexier than Don Johnson could have ever dreamed of being back in his Miami Vice days. Any more than that and I begin to look homeless.

The last couple years I kept a 5 o'clock shadow / beard, but I've done the same. Sideburns, goatee.... the sideburns/goatee combo. Can't leave the house with just the mustache either. It's funny, but I can't pull it off. (Except for free mustache rides, ladies.) Anyway, with having to shave everyday, I usually don't Friday through Sunday. But so far this new year I've kept the beard to a minimum.

None. I shave at least once a day. I'll shave a second time if I know I may be getting a litle tail. The nice smooth skin is better for kissing, carressing, etc and also, avoiding irritation down there.

The most facial hair I like on a guy is a goatee, I don't like the full beard thing and not really fond of the mustache either.
reef has the hair just on the chin and not around the mouth, i like that the best.

i've had every combination of facial hair, except a moustache (looks way too much like my father)
last few years were just sideburns of various lengths
and within the last year, i've let my beard grow out (with a little grooming around the face) and then just shave every few weeks
i have horrible skin, and the more often i shave, the crime scene my neck gets (and i've tried every product except electric shaver) ... if i let the beard grow out, that first shave isn't so bad

This is definitely low maintenance the way it is now...I just really hate shaving and I have really felt like a brother to Letterman. I wish I could get back that 10-15 mins each morning that I spend shaving and moisturizing.
This would be the only reason for me to go back to the mustache:

I've been rocking the full beard for about 5 years now (right after I got married). I started off shaving it once the weather got hot but then a couple of years ago I decided to keep it year round. I was going to shave it this year but then someone said that my newborn daughter wouldn't recognize me and changed my mind.
I love my beard. It's much better than the 6 inch blonde/green/dk brown fu manchu I had in college (bleached, then dyed green for St. Pat's, then the dk brown grew in behind it). I've had some form of facial hair (no solo stache) for about 12 years now. Ahh College! Full Beard, fu manchu, big bushy burns. It helps to cover my weak chin.

I've never liked shaving and about a month ago I decided to stop. Currently I'm rocking the full beard for no other reason than not wanting to shave. Shitty thing now is I have to maintain the damn thing. Trim the stash so its not hanging over my lip, shave around the neck...defeats the whole purpose. I have no current plans to change and I'm telling my chick I'm not shaving till we move to NY. So we'll see how that goes.
In the past I had a goatee and like mikeyboy I tried to shave it down to a lovely stash but I looked like a silly goose shaved it off.

Sexy!
I love salt and pepper hair on men-thank god my boyfriend is already greying on the sides.
I really think it all depends on the guy. It's probably been said before but it really is person to person. I like the scruff that occurs inbetween the no beard and beard transformation.
I have no aversion to beards but i fucking HATE the stubble on the upper lip, it hurts really bad and mustaches are for dads.
My boyfriend has chops and a very short chin beard with a little under his lip. His hair is brown and ihis facial hair is dark red so it makes me love him more.

My father has had a moustache pretty much since he was in college. He's one of the few men that can pull it off well. I grow facial hair at a crazy rate, so sometimes i dont feel like shaving for a few days and i have a beard. But every sports season if one of my teams makes it to the playoffs I grow what is known as a playoff beard (this started with my hockey team, the Devils, in 2003). Now that the Patriots are in the playoffs I haven't shaved since the end of their last game against the Giants. I'm fairly bearded up at this point. It itches for a while and then after a week or two it stops bothering me. I'll have the beard for as long at the Pats go in the playoffs.

i currently have a full beard. i grow one like 3 times a winter when i get bored. i had a goatee for a few years. mostly i just have sideburns of varying length. i've never had a mustache for more than a day. i only have it for that long to horrify/disgust my wife. lots of fun.

I have facial hair if I don't shave every 6 hours, so i've had most forms. Except just the straight up moustache, I shaved the goatee down to one once to see what it looked like. It was very Freddie Mercury, so I just kept shaving.
I had the goatee last year, but there were grey hairs, so I got rid of it. It wouldn't have been such a big deal if I wasn't thin on top, too. :(

Whats worse is people who correlate beard/goatee scruffiness with work performance

I totally despise shaving, after shaving my neck looks like a graduated map of the alberta rockies. I haven't shaved since Halloween, its about 1 1/2-2 inches long and very very coarse. The only maintenance I do is trimming the upper lip once the 'stache begins to curve over it.
Beards are starting to become a winter tradition to me, I'm the reverse hockey player- Ill shave it off around spring time.

I've had facial hair of one sort or another for 33 years, since I was 15. Below is my High School yearbook photo, I was 17 when this was taken. This was the oldest pic I could find fast!!! Ironically, now, @ the age of 48, the only place I DON'T have hair is on top of my head, but that has been the case to an ever advancing degree since I was half my current age & I have never really cared, I'd rather have a beard if I hadda choose!!!

i'm a fan of any type of facial hair as long as its not elvis style pork chop sideburns or a plain mustache. my nephew was growing a handlebar for a while & i thought it looked totally awesome on him. of course his mom hated it, but he had the style to pull it off. i like full beards & i think goatees are my favorite. my poor boyfriend is greek so he pretty much has 5 o'clock shadow about 5 minutes after he shaves, but a few years ago i asked him to grow a goatee & he's kept it ever since. i like it a lot. i'm just a fan of facial hair. maybe it's cause my dad had a goatee forever, i dunno. but i always compliment my friends when they are trying to sport something.

My usual look is the (half?) goatee, with hair below the mouth.
2 Months ago I was sporting the full beard, then I shaved it to a full goatee with chops that joined to the mid goatee area. Then I shaved it to a full goatee. Then I went to handlebars (which are much more cooler and intimidating than the normal moustache). Then I shaved to just the lil' spot under the bottom lip. Then I shaved that and went 'innocent' for a while.
Now it's been 4 days since I've shaved and I'm a little rough. It's no big deal though, I'm not trying to impress anyone.
I think I may go back to the handlebars... but then again, I have been scoping out escorts who do 'Greek', online.... so not all my ideas are top notch.
I mean really, If Mrs. Rod can add 20 pounds after the birth of 3 kids.... I think I can go without shaving for a few days.

I have had the mustache/goatee thing going on for over 10 years now.
Sometimes I let my sideburns get a little longer, but other than that, the only alteration is shaving my head in the summer.

Yeah I don't like the clean shaven look, it makes Lou look like he's 10, plus he's so pale. I really like it when he doesnt shave after 2 days, it's perfect.

how is that lucky, thats my life's aspiration.
I keep a chin beard because when I am clean shaven I look way too young. I shaved completely a couple months ago and I had a lady mistake me for a teenager. I'm 26.

What is a half goatee? Goatee is just the chin hair (below the mouth). It doesn't include the moustache. A goatee and moustache would be a half beard or van dyke.

goatee, beards, just moustache
now almost always goatee because it's easier to color a goatee than a whole beard( too much gray). i miss the whole beard cause i love shaping it, making a nice curved edge along the cheeks and neck. i also miss the " hot cream/towel straight-edge razor " shaves i used to get at my old stylist in jersey city

I rock long sideburns and a gotee that isn't connected via the chin and mustache, don't know what that's called. But I've grown all kinds of combinations in the past.

I've had sideburns of varying degrees ever since I could grow them. Currently they run to the bottom of my ear and are about an inch in width. In college they used to be way bigger and almost come to my mouth. I also used to have a beard for about 7 months a few years ago but shaved it when I started student teaching. I always kept it trimmed real close though, like a 4 setting on the trimmer

I try not to shave off the mustache and goatee as Heather doesn't like it.
Besides, I get carded for R-Rated movies when I'm clean shaven, and I'm 33.

I can't grow a beard or mustache. It gets itchy after a week or two and it drives me batty. I used to like letting it go for a day or two, but the older you get the worse that looks. I'm 38 and now I have a handful of greys mixed in. Awful. When you're younger and have a few days growth you look like a bad boy. Now I'm older and I just look like a bum.

I shaved my beard again, but kept the mustache just to skeeve my wife for an evening. It's not a good look for me. at all. I took pics, but I shant be posting them because I don't want to give you bastards too much ammo. I will, however, put them on my phone, so the next time any of you see me at an event, I will show you upon request. I swear one looks like a thinner Ron Jeremy. If I ever get too full of myself, someone make me take a look at these pictures.

I grow facial hair better now than I ever could, but it's still pretty pathetic. But clean shaven I look like a fat-necked, no chinned queer, and it just doesn't work for me. Usually I just have the goatee on the chin with semi long sideburns, but I've been growing a full beard out for a while. "Full beard" can be taken loosely. It's been 8 weeks and this is all I have to show for it.

my face gets itchy and irritated if i shave too much and the longer i go without shaving the better my face feels, and no more itchiness

I had the mustache+goatee combo a couple of times in college before I came to terms with the fact that blond facial hair looks awful on most people. It's fun to go without shaving for two or three days every once in a while, but if i go any longer than that, the hair on my neck starts to itch me and feel gross. I usually shave every day, even on weekends. I'd kind of like to see if I could pull off a full beard. Maybe if I ever go on vacation again.

I am getting into using the old fashioned double edge safety razors and the brush and mug of shave cream like guys used to do a long time ago. I see many videos on it and my face is amazingly smooth now. It takes a long time but it' almost becomes a self beautifying ritual and you pamper yourself etc. It gives me a good feeling to have that time to myself. It's relaxing.

I finally have a full beard. I am never shaving again. I also had 7 inces cut off of my hair. Low maintenance is the best maintenance when it comes to personal grooming. Except for the ball bag and pubes, of course. Smooth as the day I was born.
