Obviously it's very important to take a multi-vitamin every morning with breakfast. What type of vitamins do you use? I started off using the GNC brand but one time I needed to buy some and the GNC was closed, so I stopped by CVS and picked up those 'one a day' brands and it was so much better. I could actually feel the difference physically when taking it. If I took it and didnt eat within 30 minutes id actually get all queasy, otherwise I just felt so much better after taking them for a few days.

Also theres the Iron issue, since women require more Iron than men, so they have seperate formulas for both women and men.

Fiber is also important cause ot aids in reduction of water retention and as well know helps you poop. I use metimucil as a fiber supplement, as well as I have "all-bran" cereal which provides like 52% of your daily fiber needs (which is like the #1 thing most people lack). Apples are also a great source of fiber, whichever way you do it, make sure you get your fiber.

Other small points, your fats, fats are a food group and you need to have them. Obviously dont go and slap a glob of mayo on your salad but obviously fish oils and omega-3' and 6 are your best source of fat. Flaxseed oil is also a good source of omega's, plus they're a ton of health benefits to it, flaxseed has more omega 3's than fish oil. Plus theres a greater balance of omega 6's and 3's, which is important cause you need a proper balance between them, otherwise it can actually have negative effects.

Green Tea is also a great little item, antioxidants, etc. also has great health benefits and if the chinese use it, it must be healthy, how many fat chinamen you know?

Trader Joe's has a lot of good, cheap vitamins. I actually bought their powdered vitamins that make a fizzy drink, because the large multi-vitamins always make me feel sick.

I also started taking Evening Primrose Oil for dry skin and it seems to be helping if I remember to take it.

We just brought a big bag of ground flaxseed to use in some drink Jeff is going to use in his diet. Does it taste nasty?

almost everything thats healthy tastes nasty but you only need a little bit, so you just suck it up, much like semen (not that I ever tried semen). I never ordered anything online, I usually just go to the GNC and I get a discount with their member card, they forget to tell everyone that you can only get discounts the first week of the month, which sucks if I run out of something in the middle or end of the month. Otherwise they're pretty cheap, though I never compared them with any online places, just other health food stores.

The "all-bran" cereal I mentioned also tastes pretty funky, but I put a little splenda on it or I mix it in with some yogurt. The benefit if you only need half a cup of it, very very small portion. Benefit is that 1/2 a cup has 13 grams of fiber (52% of your daily need) and only 50 calories.

I found a healthy cereal that I actually like, its some Kashi crap that has bran flakes sweetened with honey and dehydrated strawberries. It's like 100c a cup. I started measuring out the cup, because I can polish off a half box of cereal easily, and the Kashi box is super small

I always felt like i could eat half a bowl of Kashi and be full as opposed to the bowl(or more sometimes) of regular cereal that i would have.

Most Kashi cereals are high in fiber AND protein. Both fiber and protein fill you up faster than simple carbs, like sugar or puffed corn.

I really enjoy the Kashi Go-Lean Crunch, myself. Sometimes I would have it with yogurt (Stonyfield Organic; Nonfat Plain or French Vanilla) usually when milk bothered my stomach.

I switched to Men's One-A-Day from the Centrum liquid multi because I was worried about getting too much iron. I eat red meat and instant oatmeal (that stuff has tons of iron in it) enough that I didn't feel like I needed any more.

If you go after foods that are high in fiber and potassium (versus processed foods that are high in sodium and lacking in fiber), your diet will improve instantly. I eat whole grains, veggies, and fruits everyday. It's a must when you're taking in 240+ grams of protein :flush:

I was taking Evening Primrose Oil for my skin and to help with cramps and PMS.

It does work, but you do have to remember to take it. . .I had a schedule that I never stuck with because it involved me taking the supplements at work. I think I will change where I plan on taking them so that I actually DO take them.

I just bought the Stoneyfield Organic yogurt. I was gonna have it this morning but didin't want to O.D. on dairy.

The Kashi i had was also the Lean Crunch and though it was not bad, i gotta be honest that i found it hard to chew and it left me a little gassy.:annoyed:

Then you need to have it with milk or yogurt and let it sit a little bit before digging in.

True, it kind of defeats the "crunch" part of it, but the GoLean Crunch is so much tastier than the regular GoLean! (Regular kind of tastes like cardboard.)

Try it with yogurt. Especially Stonyfield, because it comes with live, active cultures.
I think that the extra enzymes from the yogurt might help with the gassiness.

If not, get a bottle of Beano.

Ahh, no thanks.

I have not eaten the stuff in over a year. Mostly had it because it was there and my other cereal was not.

1. Multivitamin with Lycopene

2. A lovely homemade digestion aid: 1.5 T ground flax seed, 1T psyllium husk, 2 fl oz. aloe vera juice, ~12 oz V8. Then a full glass of water to wash it down. Twice a day. Provides adequate fiber and Omega-3's.

3. Fish oil, more Omega-3's

4. Green tea sometimes

Green tea sparks up your metabolism.

yea thats why I mentioned it, green tea is extremely beneficial on many levels, a lot of people dont utilize it though. Plus it can aid in the prevention of a lot of diseases, that and everything else I mentioned are just small things that many overlook but have tremendous impacts.

I read that, too.

A lot of people can't get over the astringency of green tea because they've only had crappy brands.

I happen to enjoy Celestial Seasonings Green Teas as well as Tetley Green Tea (in the round canisters) and haven't had a problem with any of the loose green teas I find in Chinatown.

Brewing it is a little finicky - you want to use water that's just about to boil (temperature should be less than 212F/100C) and stewing the leaves with boiling water only makes the tea bitter.

Over-steeping makes it bitter and no amount of sugar will make it better.

However, if your place of employment has a water cooler with a hot tap, that's about the perfect temperature (about 170-180 degrees F) for Green and White Teas.

Steeping should be under 3 minutes for both green and white teas; any longer and you will have bitter tea.

Adding sugar, honey or artificial sweeteners is entirely optional - I don't like to add any myself, but that's because I am a tea drinker anyway. (Unless it's regular Lipton tea; then I heap in the honey and lemon.)

I take Citrucel fiber pills everyday after my internal med doc nearly chewed my head off for not taking in enough fiber and she also pounded it into my head to take Viactiv calcium chews because I need tons of calcium since I am a woman in my child-bearing years. I also take prenatal vitamins because I can get them free from work and they are chock full of vitamins including folic acid. You're "supposed" to take them 6 months before trying to get pregnant but I dont plan on doing that for another 10 months so I'm set.

The only thing I need to incorporate into my regimen is flaxseed oil and green tea.

Look at all of us being healthy!

Green tea is pretty simple, especially if you have a water cooler with a hot tap. Then you can just keep a tin and a mug at work - no fuss, no muss.

Also, I just saw a TON of those "add to your water bottle" packets on sale at my ShopRite. Lipton or 4C (I forgot to note the brand; I was looking for powdered Gatorade or something similar) makes "Tea to Go" in black, green and white teas. Since you also mentioned you're having trouble dealing with your water intake, this might be PERFECT for you to do both at once. They mix into a 16.9 ounce bottle of water, so if you've already got the bottled stuff available, all you'll need is the mix and you're good-to-go.

Flaxseed oil is easy enough; I linked AB's rice crispies in this post that I made in the "Fish Oils" thread (http://www.ronfez.net/forums/showpost.php?p=1577579&postcount=6) so it might be a good way to start. Plus, it has the added benefit of being just as easy to make as Rice Krispie Treats!

I just asked my gyno about the folic acid and she said there's no harm in taking a folic acid supplement even when you're not planning to try for a baby. It's a B vitamin and your body will excrete whatever it doesn't use in your urine (so it'll turn fluorescent yellow) . . . plus, it has other benefits besides preventing neural tube defects, so what's the harm?
