I don't know about everyone else but i usually work out at night and when i get home i am sort of hungry so i like a small snack.
Lately it's been a small bowl of Special K with the dried berries but i have found myself waking up at like 5am to pee from having the milk.
Tonight i didn't add milk and tossed in some blackberries and raisins-which are the only things i am basically eating from the bowl.
Does anyone else have a nibble after th gym or is it too criminal to ask?

i do, that was a good thing about going in the morning for me would be that i would be hungry for lunch afterwards. if i would go after dinner at night, it would usually be around 10pm, so i would either try not to snack or eat a piece of fruit. i know people say you shouldnt eat after like 8pm, but i'm on a totally different schedule than the 9-5 world. wake up time is noon for me usually. so my 10pm is like everyone else's 6pm.

protein shake, the protein provides amino acids for rebuilding muscle tissue post work out, should be done within 30-60 minutes after the work out.

I'm with whoever mentioned the high-protein thing.
I've been on a calcium kick and milk occasionally upsets my stomach, so I would go with yogurt or cheese.
Of course, this is coming from someone who hasn't hit the gym in 8 months. (OUCH!)

I was told that eating the cereal isnt all that great because it's mainly carbs and although im not anti carb i would rather save them for earlier in the day when i can work them off still, not before bed.
I'm gonna try something else that's higher in protein for a week and see how that fairs.

Also milk is pretty high in sugar, obviously you need the calcium and vitamin D that dairy has but of all food groups (besides fats) you should really limit dairy intake to about 2 servings a day.
I love my egg white omelet in the morning, with spinach and I use the "smart beat" cheese which is for people who are lactose intolerant, so its like 25 calories a slice, use 2 slices and its actually good cause its melted and tastes pretty good. Just using it cold for a sandwich is blech tho.

I like to have peanuts or cashews, personally. Unless it's one of those days I have dinner after I work out.

thanks but Maria is the catalyst behind this whole forum, she gets my vote. Plus once I go back to work next week (both jobs) and school starts on the 25th, im not gonna have any time for posting, let alone modding. Plus every time I was made a mod on a board, it didn't end well for me or the board.

What about the studies that if you consume 24 ounces of dairy (low-fat & non-fat) in 24 hours, you will increase your overall weight loss?
I've read them in more places than 2424milk.com and have found this to work well for me when I am active.
There are also a number of studies that indicate there's a negative weight-loss impact from non-nutritive sweeteners (i.e. - saccharine, aspartame, sucralose, etc.) so I don't know that I would demonize sugar as a general rule, but I would be cautious about which sugars I am consuming.
I think the biggest problem with Special K Red Berries is that it's pre-sweetened, not that it's "high in carbs" . . . the remaining ingredients are pretty balanced, but the sugar is a bit much to swallow.

Yeah im definitely cutting out the cereal snack. It's a combination of what is it plus the fact that if it's a work night i am usually going to bed within the next hour hour and a half.

technically you should never eat after 8 or 9pm, no matter what the food is. but i guess it depends on your sleep/job schedule.

I have a protein shake, some fruit juice, and a piece of bread for a total of about 400 calories post-workout. Post-workout is when you can splurge on carbs a little because the insulin spike will make your muscles soak up the protein and the sugars and carbs will be converted to glycogen instead of fat so you'll be ready to workout again tomorrow. I have something similar before hand to make sure I get through the workout (about an hour of weights and a little over an hour of cardio and I'm on a diet, so energy's hard to come by).
A combination of carbs and protein is better than just carbs post-workout.

That's why i have been trying to curve myself more towards a piece of cold cut or whatever visible form of protein i can find.
I've never had the protein shakes and can honestly say there is no interest there for me to use them because i would rather have a higher protein food.
I know it may be easier to use the shake or more protein ina serving but im just not feeling it.

I buy just plain vanilla whey protein powder and mix it in soymilk and/or water, depending on how many calories I want, and sometimes juice (vanilla + milk + oj = goodness). I've had the chocolate too. Tastes fine to me. Whey is good because it's digested by the body very quickly. I eat a real meal about an hour after my snack.
I went out to see a friend in California, and I got sick of explaining to him that even though I'm eating ALL THE TIME, I'm losing weight. "Dude, shut up! I didn't get fat eating like this, and I've already lost 10 pounds!" I packed a sandwich bag full of protein powder...

Tuna Fish, Gatorade, and bananas.
Be weary if you are downwind.
I split a protein shake. It's basically two full glasses. Drink first before I go to the gym and drink the other half immediately after.
Doesn't matter what time of day. Doesn't matter if I'm hungry.

do protein shakes have a smell?
do protein shakes have a smell?
I think they all do but you can get them in a flavor you like such as vanilla, chocolate or strawberry. You can also put in other ingredients that might make it better.
I like vanilla with peanut butter and strawberries.

my favorite is the chocolate whey protein with some skim milk or water, half a banana and a tablespoon of the omega peanut butter, delish and fills you up. I do the same as someone else said, I have half before and half after the work out.

I just bought vanilla chai whey protein drink that was already chilled and pre-mixed from Whole Foods. One serving (8oz) is 160 calories, is that too much?

I bought egg whites today and fresh baby spinach. It's supposedly real egg whites not the egg beater stuff. So how do you make your egg white omelet? Do you actually use eggs and separate the yolk and whites or use the egg white stuff they sell in the store? Do you use fresh spinach like baby spinach or the frozen stuff? I want to make this for breakfast but wanted to know if you could share your recipe, thanks!

I just had a couple thin pieces of cheese and some carrots.

I'd doubt it. Depends on your calorie limit. If you can fit it in I would. My whey is 120 cals for 23 g of protein.
The point is getting more bang for your (calorie) buck. More protein means that you're gonna be less hungry.

yea I use fresh eggs and just separate them and I use fresh spinach, toss in some cayenne pepper and im golden. I dont have anything against the egg whites in the carton but its just overpriced for my taste. Toss on 2 slices of the smart beat cheese and thats my breakfast.

It's not just calories, but also the protein/carbs/fat breakdown. More protein = more gooder.
