View Full Version : I Really Like Punching People In The Face
So I've decided this is the year I return to the martial arts. I can't force myself to work out merely for getting in shape; there has to be something I truly enjoy doing attached to it. I studied various styles of Karate and Kung Fu through my teens and twenties and dabbled on and off in my 30's, so now I'm gonna renew my interest.
I know JustJon and Green Lantern are fellow Kung Fu dudes. Anyone else?

Thank God for you Tall_James.
Sometimes I think you're the only one here who understands me. And I know for a fact that you're the only one who ever gave me the cocksucker blues.

you know I was thinking about it all last year either getting back into boxing or starting bjj as it always interested me but there were never schools near me until recently since MMA has become so popular. I just cant get the motivation going to actually go sign up.

When the Boogeyman goes to sleep at night, he checks his closet for Gvac.
Gvac counted to infinity, twice.
This is no chin behind Gvac's beard, there's only another fist.
When Gvac does a push-up, he isn't lifting himself up, he's pushing the Earth down.

Kung Fu Fighting
Everybody was kung-fu fighting
Those cats were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit frightning
But they fought with expert timing
They were funky China men from funky Chinatown
They were chopping them up and they were chopping them down
It's an ancient Chineese art and everybody knew their part
From a feint into a slip, and kicking from the hip
Everybody was kung-fu fighting
Those cats were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit frightning
But they fought with expert timing
There was funky Billy Chin and little Sammy Chung And BIG ASS GVAC
He said here comes the big boss, lets get it on
We took a bow and made a stand, started swinging with the hand
The sudden motion made me skip now we're into a brand knew trip
Everybody was kung-fu fighting
Those cats were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit frightning
But they did it with expert timing
(repeat)..make sure you have expert timing
Kung-fu fighting, had to be fast as lightning

Gvac,
My love for 2 years now has been Kokikai Ryu Aikido. There's actually a new school in midtown. I've also studied Tae Kwon Do and have taken Self Defense courses that incorportate ground fighting and judo (as well as a LOT of Aikido technique) - very cool bro - definitely go for it! I have the luxury of a job where I have a heavy bag that I strike with a lot of loose, open hand style Kung Fu strikes - straight fingers, etc. But I practice kicks and anything else I can on it.
I've been working at a college so I have access to all of their martial arts classes. I'm just going to keep taking and learning shit. I always keep in mind though, that on the street... it's so fucking free form and chaotic that everything comes into play - but the positioning, timing and centering as well as cognizance of my attacker's mind that Aikido stresses, I believe, ties in all of the grappling and striking arts.
Theres an aikido board I used to go to that has a lot of good fighting discussion aikiweb.com or somehting like that. I found a great discussion of martial arts there once that i'll post the crux of it here if it's allowable and I find it.
I'd like to go to New Hampshire and punch everyone right in the face.

My roommate's a kickboxer and before he earns enough money here to fly to Australia and work in the mines I'll get some training out of him. First off though it's been over a year since I've done any exercise so first I'm doing conditioning - up to about 1500 jump ropes, along with some push-ups and burpies, which are fucking brutal. In the next couple of weeks I'll hit the gym with him and learn the basics of kickboxing training, then in time I'll use his trainer, who's a great guy and veteran of the Kumate, (immortalized in Van Damme's "Kickboxer"), who will probably give me lessons for free for promoting his projects for helping the street kids of Phnom Penh by giving them Cambodian kickboxing training as well as food and paying for their schooling. My only problem is that, due to the thousands of dollars invested in the crowns in my face, I won't be able to do any sparring. I just don't trust the dentists here enough.

I wanna punch my gym partner in the face. we were supposed to work out this morning at like 8 but she got drunk last night and now she has drive home some douche bag she spent the night with. by the time she gets back from dropping him off I have to go to work. looks like i'm stuck on my xlglider at home. I'm going it alone from now on cause this is the 2nd time she's flaked out in 5 days and I don't have time for this bullshit.:furious::furious::furious:

I could never get into the gym thing, so kung-fu has been great for me. I forces me to go to classes multiple times a week and exercise for an hour and a half to 2 hours. Really good cardio training and aerobic exercise.

I used to do kick boxing, and as someone who goes to the gym almost everyday, i remeber thinking it would be easy. I give TONS of credit to people who stick with that karate/martial arts/cardio stuff. It's killer and def doesnt get you bored, like i can see you saying about weight lifting.

I used to do Tae Kwon Do three times a week for an hour each session and was fat as fuck. The master or whatever he was called used to pat my gut and say "ohhhh, 7 months" and laugh his ass off. He could easily beat me up though.
I have been motivated to go outside the martial arts dojo/studio to prepare for when I'm in there - that's been very effective. The trick is to give a crap enough about what you're doing in your art though.
