I do pilates once a week. It's floor work not the machine. I love how it makes my stomach muscles feel so sore for days afterwards so I know it's strenghtening my core muscles. It's a good hurt. Pilates anyone?

What does it actually do besides give you length?

Again, all these types of class spin, yoga, pilates seem interesting but in the end i want the bang for my buck and do they really rank high on the physical activity and cal burning?

It strengthens and tightens your stomach muscles, so thats a plus. You do burn calories but not as much as say the treadmill or spinning, but i like to combine these classes with my boring cardio. Plus any strength training wont harm anything but be a plus.
My friend lost 60 pounds only do pilates for her wedding, so that's inspiration!

In addition to allowing you to have longer, leaner muscles and strengthening your core, it helps build endurance and discipline.

Oh, and it's no-impact, which is a welcome relief after running or jumping rope or whatever else.

If your gym offers Pilates classes, definitely take one to switch things up. I intend on starting Pilates next week; there's a class at my gym that will fit into my schedule very nicely.

Yoga and Pilates simultaneously increase strength and flexibility, while also improving your balance and focus. You won't burn as many calories as you could running, but it will help boost your metabolism (all strength training does), improve your conditioning, and do wonders for your posture.

I've never done Pilates, but I'd like to try it. Especially the more dynamic stuff.
