Does anyone subscribe to any fitness magazines?
I have read Men's Health here and there and decided to go and check out the Women's Health magazine and it wasn't as good, in fact it kinda sucked. It's hard to find a good magazine for women because they generally revolve around being super extreme weight loss and unrealistic goals and plans. I just hate the entire shit the try to pawn off.
I especially like the "Eat This, Not That" sections that they have and am looking to get the book, which are all apparently on hold at B&N.

Men's and Women's Health are both really good magazines. Full of information.

I didn't think that Women's Health was as informative as Men's usually is. That or i was completely disinterested in them telling me about my kind of sex drive.
You can get that stuff in Cosmo and if i wanted to read Cosmo and pretend im Sarah Jessica Parker, i would.
Runner's World is actually quite good. It's in the vein of Men's Health, but in a non-gender manner. While the focus is on running, there are many things I have gotten from them.

I'll have to check it out. Like i say repeatedly i really love Men's Health and how they go about everything. I thought for sure WH would be the same but it fell really flat in comparison.
I'll have to take some extra time to look for a gender nuetral mag and i'll make it a point to look at an issue of Runner's.

So today at B&N i picked up a magazine that i really really liked as i flipped through. It's called Body + Soul and i believe is a Martha Stewart produced magazine(don't worry you wont find her flair in it at all).
It concentrates on an overall healthy lifestyle, tips, a lot of organic "bests" and energy savers. It's very simple but fulfilling!

I've got Men's Health and my wife has Women's Health. We both hate WH too. Worthless.
I also get Men's Fitness.
Used to subscribe to Muscle and Fitness but it's just a big ass magazine full of multi page ads. Kind of like Maxim.

Do you like Men's Fitness or Men's Health better?
I have never read the former.
They're basically the same magazine. To be honest, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference if you tore off the cover.
If you like Men's Health you'll probably like Men's Fitness.

I agree that EVERY magazine geared toward women focuses on someone with an ectomorphic body type who's maybe 5'5" . . . and rich.
It blows.
Even though it's pretty much housefrau reading, Prevention doesn't totally suck. I bought a walking guide they put out a few years ago (found tons of typoes) but it was generally good information. Plus, I get a ton of freebies from them as an Avon Walk participant, so I've gotten used to them.

That's a section of the page that put my opinion of the magazine totally over the edge. I know it's a fitness magazine and i know sex sells but if this is a magazine specifically for females i would think that they would realize that only 4% of American women actually look like this and because of that probably never need to work out.

I've tried reading Shape, Self, Yoga, etc. for a lot of things.
I found that Shape was geared towards bodybuilders, Self was more like Cosmo and Glamour than I could tolerate and the others were worthless.
It seems like the only realistic advice you can get is from the housefrau mags. And those are wicked embarassing to pick up if you're under 35.

Well, like i said before i bought a Body + Soul magazine that i really enjoyed.
It has more useful day to day knowledge that you can easily put to practice and it doesn't focus too much on just one topic, it's very evenly dispersed.
Too, i am not into know what my monthly sex drive is and other useless crap. I also don't see why or how it should have a 4 page article in a fitness magazine.

To be fair, the men's magazines are the same way. All the guys have six pack abs.

True.
I think it's just as hard for men to read a mag with a ripped guy on the cover but i do notice with M.H. they have a lot of actors who have jacked up for movie roles(Gerard Butler, Jason Statham, Eric Bana, Adrien Brody).

Back when I was a steroid-injecting musclehead, I used to read MUSCLEMAG. Eventually, I stopped buying every issue because every month was exaaactly the same. "LOSE THAT GUT". "GET KILLER ABS". "SECRETS TO A STRONGER BACK". etc etc.
That was 10+ years ago.
I just recently picked up some no name fitness mag that was sitting in a waiting room. It had, literally, all the same articles and features. "GET WASHBOARD ABS". "DROP THAT HOLIDAY WEIGHT". I felt like I pulled it out of a time capsule! Nothing's changed.
I guess what I'm saying is: don't subscribe to anything. Buy 3 or 4 issues. Scrape all the info you can out of 'em and be done with it.
Save yer money.

I bought my boyfriend a Men's Health subscription for Christmas. He buys them every month but we bought a huge black binder and plastic sleeves so once he is done reading that particular mag he goes through and rips out what pages he wants and files them away for future reference.
beats a zillion magazine laying around.

I agree that there's not much in any of them. I just like getting something every month that makes me think about fitness. I also like to read the stories about guys who lost a lot of weight.

I thought I was the only person who did that because of all the laughter and pointing it provoked . . . ripping pages out of Vegetarian Times and Cooking Light saved me a lot of bother with finding storage in our apartment.

Mens health is a great magazine, I also rip out the relevant articles and keep them in a binder. The bodega by me sells all magazines at 60% off the cover, so I just get it there. I'd order a subscription but someone would end up stealing it, like I do with my neighbors Maxim every month.
