Alright so i guess my reason for this thread would ideally be to check in each time you go to or come back from the gym or go out for a run or whatever suits your fancy.

It's pretty key to keep a work out log to track the days, equipment and time that you put in for each "session" and since most of us frequent here on a regular basis it might help to remind us that it needs to be done.

Again this is pretty loosely constructed so feel free to put whatever you might think helps you to maintain or exceed goals if you want. That can include calorie count, hours put in exercising, types of special work outs or classes you participate in, etc.

If people are so inclined they can also put they info in their RonFez.Net Blogs (http://www.ronfez.net/forums/blog.php) so you can look at your personal timeline as well as looking at it in comparison to other people in the thread.

Tonight will mark day seven at the gym. I am probably going to go between 8 and 9:30pm as per usual.

I'm going to focus more on the elliptical and treadmill tonight with a warm up on a bike to switch it up.

did my usual tuesday, which is my alternate day, no weights today just letting the muscles heal. Did an hour on the elliptical, then 20 minutes on the heavy bag with 10 minutes of stretching before and after.

Then I had a nummy protein shake afterwards, aka I blew some guy in the locker room.

I used to hate when dudes who were waiting to use a machine I was using would look at me like I was a retard. Then they'd sit down and mock my weight that i was using, say for like bicep curls at first I was doing like 30 pounds and theyd jack it to 70 or so and scoff at me. As much as I hated them, I realized monday that I am them now but worse cause I scoffed a 200 year old woman for doing 5 pounds and I got all cocky and put it up to 120 and almost ripped the arm right out of the socket and promptly brought it down to 90.

I'm pathetic.

I totally dig the boxing equipment they put in the gym now, I downloaded all the rocky soundtracks and live in my little fantasy montage world for about 20 minutes a day.

I HATE THE 5LB LADY AT MY GYM!!! Seriously, she's been lifting the same 5 lb dumbbell on the preacher bench for 2 months.

Anyway, I bought a mini-composition book with 80 sheets in it, and I've kept track of all my workouts since late August or so. I only have a few pages left .

Aren't women supposed to do more reps of less weight? I heard you shouldn't do too much heavy lifting as a chick or you'll get bulky.

I couldn't possibly disagree with this statement more. My wife used to feel the same way.

This is just my opinion but I feel like I've done a lot of research so....

If you're not eating in excess of your daily calorie needs AND working out like an animal with the weights you're just not going to build big bulky muscles. Especially as a women. Ask any guy who's trying to bulk up. It takes a LOT of eating and a LOT of work. You're not going to build huge muscles by accident.

Besides, if you woke up one day and felt like you were too bulky you can just stop lifting for a while. It will definitely go away.

My wife's following a program from the book called New Rules of Lifting for Women. She's doing squats and deadlifts with as much weight as she can handle. She's not getting bulky. She's losing weight.

Edit:

They just put a sample chapter (http://www.musclewithattitude.com/readArticle.do?id=1881918) of the book online. Here's the relevant text.

"The same problem arises with strength training, if you forget the "strength" and focus on the "training." Doing high-repetition work with light weights simply makes your muscles more efficient at lifting light weights, which is a surefire way to shrink your muscles and reduce their ability to burn calories.

Heavier lifts, as you can imagine, are inherently less efficient than lighter lifts. They require a bit more energy to perform, but consume a lot more energy as your body recovers from them."

Tonight i am going by my lonesome for the first time since we started going to the gym. I'm a little nervous but thankfully i just bought a new book and if anything, i'll park it on a bike and work there for about 40 minutes until im comfortable enough to venture elsewhere.

For the first time since I started in August, I have some form of injury. I did some heavy deadlifts on Monday, but felt fine Tuesday when I went to do some cardio. For some reason, I woke up yesterday with some tightness in my right hamstring. Got through yesterday's cardio, but today is supposed to be leg day, and I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to lift or not.

I'm going out of town tomorrow, so I'll probably be out of the gym until Monday .

I am purposely forcing myself to take days off from running.

Last night I had a killer workout on the treadmill, running with arm weights, a higher incline(3 degree incline througout) and a streadily increasing pace.

I really felt the workout after with my lower back tightening up.

Today is my "off" day which means push-ups, sit-ups and light weights.

About 11 years ago, I saw a videotape that really motivated me to get in shape.

It was called BODY OF WORK. It's a documentary about normal people who transformed their physiques with the hopes of winning a huge prize.
Bill Phillips (the man behind EAS supplements) was offering the prize and, he appears in the video.
The movie has a VERY unpredictable ending that will, without question, make you stand up and cheer at your TV set.

I won't tell you what happens but I will say this:
YOU WILL BE AFFECTED BY THIS MOVIE.

THE VERY NEXT DAY, YOU WILL START EXERCISING AND EATING RIGHT.

When I was in the Army, I passed this tape around the barracks and everybody I showed it to was blown away. In no time, almost the whole company was doing our own PT in addition to our regular Army PT.

As I said earlier, this movie came out a long time ago so, you probably won't find it anywhere. But I'd be happy to share it with anyone who wants to see it. I can easily capture it and convert it into a videofile or a dvd.

Send me a PM or an instant message. My screen name is PUFFYSTICKER.

In preparation for my first 5K next month, I decided to go for an outdoor run.

I only planned a 2.6 mile run, but for my first outdoor run I felt that was a good start. My plan is to do one per week. I completed in under 30 minutes which is a far cry from my old sub 7 minute pace, but I felt good about my first outdoor run in almost 2 years.

Not only did I run a fairly steady pace, but i also ran at a better pace than my indoor jogging on the treadmill.

Feeling a little of the effects today (tight/sore quads), but today is my regularly scheduled day off so I can recuperate.

I haven't been to the gym regularly in about a month, I had finals and then a bunch of stuff come up with work and jury duty, etc. I feel just dirty and almost depressed since I stopped going on the regular. It's such a difference, even though im tired after the workout I feel amazing and refreshed as well as accomplished. I went maybe 2 or 3 times over the month but I just hate that I havent been able to go my regular 5 times a week. Now that everythings back on schedule, I should be good and i'm going today after work and do an hour of cardio and weights, I got my new ipod mix and determination!

This forum is a huge boost too, im so psyched after reading everyone elses experiences, I hope this forum is here to stay cause its a huge help I think for many of us. im far from an advanced weightlifter or bodybuilder, but there is nothing more annoying to me then when somebody walks into the gym, does one set of something and then spends the next 25 minutes talking on their phone while sitting on a machine. one time i actually saw a girl walk in the gym on her phone, sit down next to a treadmill for 40 minutes while carrying on a conversation about how she was "at the gym", then get up and walk out while still on her phone. she literally did NOTHING while she was there.

Bad week for me. I was riding high after losing 25 lbs, ended up doing some serious binge drinking all week. Went to the gym tonight though instead of the bar, but I didn't do any cardio. However, I did bench 225 lbs for 5 sets of 5 reps. That was one of my goals. Today I had a personal trainer come over my house and sell his thing to me. Turns out I work with his wife at the hospital so that gave me an extra discount. So for the next 10 weeks I will have a PT come over to my house twice a week!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to see the results of this!!!!!
My work out schedule will look like this:
Mon - yoga
Tuesday - spinning
Wed - trainer at home
Thurs - day off
Friday - Pilates
Sat - trainer at home
Sun - day off

my gym has a guy that refuses to wear deodorant. OK, this counts.

Yesterday, I took the train into the City for an event with my breast cancer organization.
I went in early so I could take myself to lunch at my favorite restaurant downtown.
To get there, I walked through Penn Station from the main Amtrak concourse through the LIRR concourse to exit on 33rd Street, so I could get to the #6 downtown subway at Park Avenue.

That's about 4 blocks eastbound, plus stairs.

I got off the #6 at Union Square/14th Street.

I walked from 14th Street to 12th Street, along 4th Avenue; then down 12th Street to 2nd Avenue, which is the cross street nearest the restaurant.

After lunch, I walked back up to 14th and took the #6 uptown to Grand Central (42nd Street); after walking through Grand Central Terminal, I crossed Pershing Square and walked down Park Avenue 6 blocks to 38th Street, which is the closest cross-street to the place where the event was being held.

To get home, I walked back uptown to Grand Central, did some window shopping, took the cross-town Shuttle to Port Authority and caught the downtown E train to Penn Station. (Yes, I know, I could have walked down to 33rd and back across to Penn, but I saw a few things at Grand Central on the way in that I wanted to look at again.)

OK, so that's 4 cross-town blocks downtown plus 4 eastbound blocks downtown.
Plus 10 blocks uptown/downtown between the event and Grand Central.
Plus 4 blocks eastbound to the #6 in the morning.
Plus stairs and window-shopping.

If there are 20 uptown/downtown blocks to a mile and 10 east/west blocks to a mile, I walked a little more than 2.3 miles on the street yesterday.

That's half of the recommended 5 miles per day for good health. That's maybe 1/4 of the mileage I'll need to put in to be ready for the marathon-and-a-half I'll be walking on October 4th and 5th. . .I have to step it up!

Swam laps at the gym for 20 minutes yesterday. Got my heart rate waaay up, started to get dizzy and finished out the set doing laps of kick because I had my trusty kickboard. (That my brother Ger stole from the Y 7 years ago.)

During my swim, I learned that I need new goggles, a new combination lock for my locker and a backup swimsuit.

Next gym day will also be a swim-day, until I get some new sports bras. Then I can do the cardio classes without any bounceage. (OUCH!)

I've got an hour planned in the pool tonight as well.

The thing about swimming laps is you've gotta fight through some pain, but it is worth it. Personally, after 15 minutes or so, my lungs are on fire, my arms feel like they have cement blocks attached to them and my legs feel like I'm just dragging them behind me. But, after fighting through this you start feeling better and better until everything kicks in fully by around minute 45 and you feel like you can keep swimming all night long. I usually knock off after an hour, but by then everything is flowing right and I feel great.

One other thing about laps is you've got to watch what you eat- no spicy food or tomatoes and at most a light meal before hitting the water. Too much in your belly can cause you to be gassy and that can really F with your breathing. If you can't breathe right, forget about keeping a rhythm in your stroke. Not to mention the possibility of cramping.

Finally, take a long hot shower after to get your core body temp back up - I've read that your body burns less calories the cooler it is, so you are depriving yourself of some post workout calorie burning if you let your body temp stay low.

The pool is heated, so there's no need to worry about my body temp being too low when I get out...it fucking feels like piss most days. (Ewww.) And I usually shower after getting out, but I just wanted to go home. My head was killing me. Oh, and I started to freak out about my wedding ring - I forgot to take it off before I got into the pool, so it started to affect my form. Not good.

I planned out my day so that I remembered to stay fueled all day (breakfast, small snack, lunch, small snack, bigger snack before leaving the office) but I didn't remember to stay hydrated. I may start bringing my large water bottle to work so that I can fill up before I go to the gym...being dehydrated to begin with doesn't help if you're swimming - you go all pruny before you're really done.

I'm cautious about being short of breath because I have asthma; one of my teammates on the swim team had an asthma attack midway through a race doing the butterfly. She had to go home in an ambulance. Mine isn't exercise-induced, but it does trigger around the chemicals they use in the water and the cosmetics/fragrances the other women in the locker room use. Ick.

Lastly, people at my gym need to learn how to share lanes properly. None of them do, so getting a lane all to myself, like I had yesterday, is a very rare thing. I need to google swim workouts so I have a plan when I go in...25's do wonders for your speed, but make changing workouts up a challenge.

I know I haven't been posting in the thread for about a week and a half. I travel constantly for work, and it's tough to travel and work out, but I did a pretty good job last week. Hit the gym three times, and it would have been 4 but the damn hotel didn't have enough machines in it's gym. I was literally standing there in my workout clothes ready to go, but there's a limited window of time for me to work out, and I had to ditch the effort. Completely frustrating.

This thread is not boring, not in the least. It's nice to see the same people in here, and at least for me, it's a nice reminder to keep getting back to the gym. It's always hardest to get yourself back into your workout rhythm and schedule when it's been disrupted, so anything that pushes me back into it is very helpful.

I feel your pain...I travel about 40-45 weeks a year and and usually stay at Marriott or Hilton properties and am nearly always disappointed in the workout facilities. Prior to arriving at the particular hotel I've gotten in the habit of emailing the GM of the hotel explaining when I will be arriving and asking for assistance in locating a facility for a workout that has capabilities greater than the in-house fitness facility. I'm amazed at the response that I get, the arrangements that they make on my behalf and nearly always get complimentary passes for the duration of my stay. Right now I'm in Schaumburg, IL and have passes to the Lifetime Fitness (which is a top-notch club) down the block.

I did my weekly torture complex, this time I had a home workout done with 25lbs dumbbells. The object of a torture complex is to complete it as fast as you can with the goal being under 30 minutes.

What I did this time:

25 pushups
25 dumbell hang cleans (just like a barbell hang clean, except with hand held weights)
25 thrusters (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DBBhRK7tjg)
25 leg lifts
25 burpees (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_Dq_NCzj8M)
25 leg lifts
25 thrusters
25 dumbbell hang cleans
25 pushups

Total time: 22 minutes. It was intense. I had Liquid Metal blasting to get myself pumped. In the middle of it I felt like I was going to throw up and the back of my throat was on fire. I kept with it and felt awesome when it was over. If anyone does it be sure to post your time.

For last week the torture complex was this:

15 Pullups
30 Dips
30 Squats with 135lbs
20 Floor Wipers with 135lbs (http://youtube.com/watch?v=kcNGCG2L0OA)
30 Hyperextensions holding a 25lb plate
30 pushups
15 pullups

I made it to the end of the 30 pushups in 30 minutes. By the end of that I was laid out on the gym floor ready to die. I tried to do the last 15 pullups but my body refused to move. In all it was a good workout, driving home I was in the slow lane on the highway listening to calming music. It took everything out of me mentally and physically.

on the road, which is always a tough time to work it out. Flew on saturday chilled on Sunday. Did a surprisingly quick 5 mile run yesterday in the heat and humidity and felt great. Been playing golf every day, which is a sport and and activity, but is most definitely not exercise not matter what my father and his snowbird friends say.

Just came back from "hangin and bangin". Feel a littler stiff but good.

I ran upstairs twice for team meetings.

Once to get there because I thought I'd be late, then back down to check my e-mail, then back up to tell my teammates who were in the conference room that the meeting had been cancelled...then back upstairs for the rescheduled meeting and another downstairs.

It counts, just barely, but it counts.

I gotta get a new combination lock so I can go to the gym.

Ritalin

Goddamn it, I fucked up my knee.

I was kneeling to wipe something up off the floor, and I sat back on my heels and felt something funky in my right knee. Not "I can't walk" funky, but something odd.

I still ran on it twice, and that might have been a mistake because I sat on a 3 hour flight yesterday and when I went to get off the plane I could barely walk.

It's better today but still not right, so I hit the pool at the gym. 500 easy, 4 x 100 dolphin kick, then 4 x 200 20' rest in between.

Felt good.

thank you. most days the results are the only thing that motivates me to get to the gym in the first place. between monday and friday i usually lose around 6 lbs then gain back 4 or 5 lbs. over the weekend. this week i only lost 4.6 lbs., i gotta watch what I eat this weekend so i can keep some weight off.

Swam for half an hour yesterday after work.
Snacked and ate real food all day, so I wasn't sick.
Also remembered to hydrate through the day.
Brought a water bottle so I could sip when my throat felt dry.

4x25's Free warm-up, rest, 2x25's Free
2x25's free-kick
2x25's back-kick
2x25's backstroke (and I hit my head on the side of the pool; OUCH!)
2x25's breaststroke-kick
2x25's breaststroke
2x25's free-pulls
2x25's backstroke-pulls
2x25's free cooldown

Out of the pool, rinse the cap & goggles, hit the shower.

did an hour on the elliptical on Saturday, then went to spin class yesterday morning. Funny thing though: the chick who teaches the class didn't show up, but there we were, the sunday morning crowd, sitting on our bikes and warming up for 15 minutes before anyone thought to go and ask the front desk at the Y if anyone was coming.

She never did show up, but I stayed and worked on my own. I probably got a better workout in then I usually do in that class.

Weighed myself afterwards, and somehow I weighed in 4 pounds heavier than I did on wednesday. I don't know how that's possible, but I'm pissed and I'm going to fix that this week. I have a job in the Bahamas on the 24th, and I need to look halfway decent in a swim suit by then, and that means taking off 10 lbs.

i weighed in at 209 lbs one week ago but by friday morning i was 204lbs. I ate like a jackass all weekend so i was really dreading stepping on the scale this morning because i was certain i gained all of the weight back. turns out i weighed in at 205.6lbs, so in a weeks time i lost 3.4 lbs. its so weird how u can think u have a good week and gain weight, then think you had a bad week and lose weight.

Elliptical the last two days, and I like doing it, but I'm anxious for my knee to heal up so I can run. It's just a sprain and I can still work out on it but it bothers me when something hurts all the time. I'm not used to it. I definitely have a bigger appreciation for people who live with chronic conditions. I can't wait to be pain free.

I joined the ymca by my house and they have a great 12 week program and its free, u get a trainer who checks in on u and meets with u every 3 weeks but sets up up with a digital trainer, u check into each machine and it clocks what u do, makes sugestions about weights and tells u ur seat setting. I have been 6 times ( 3 times a week) and I am sore but I feel pretty good about it. I don't really want to lose more than 10 pounds but my goal is to go camping in about 12 weeks and not need a nap after the first 15 steps of hikeing.

I am glad this forum is here

I had a great, intense workout last night. I did chest, arms and and some dumbell squats. We just got a big excercise ball so I killed my abs and did did a bunch of incline pushups on it. And when I say a bunch of push ups, I mean I did about 25 because that is a bunch to me so far. The ball is great because when your doing the pushups you also have to tighten and work your abs like a mother fucker just to keep balanced on it. My goal is to be able to do 100 incline pushups on the ball by the end of the year.

I understand you are lonely, but there are better places to have a fifteen minute conversation than on the butterfly machine between my second and third set.
